Fair lady, wearing beautiful sarees, a jasmine thrust on the side of the hair bun (a top knot), was wearing big round glasses, a red dot on the middle of her forehead. So very kind. We all had a book of our medical history. When we see Doctor aunty (that’s how we addressed her) we had to carry our medical history book with us. She asked us to draw pictures & colour them when there’s space. One time my brother was fatally ill & she saved his life. By diagnosing the illness & acting fast to take him to the ER. She was quite fond of Richard. I can remember my mum & aunts talking about Richard when he was presenting news on Rupavahini & Doctor aunt mentioning of him with them. To be a minuscule part of the tragedy of Richard’s death is so heartbreaking. Just to know such a devastating loss happening to someone you know is a wound that one would carry forever. RIP Doctor aunt & Richard ❤

I grew up listening to Richard De Soyza, a man who not only changed my life but also inspired countless others of my generation. Richard taught us the art of eloquence, how to act with soul, and what it truly means to be a patriot. I can’t even begin to imagine what Sri Lanka could have been like today if his presence and influence were still with us. Tragically, one man’s hyperactive, destructive mindset ROBBED us of far more than a remarkable human being- it’s an immeasurable LOSS (not only to the late Mrs Soyza but to the entire Country)! Thanks to AsokaH and his superb team for bringing up some never-fading memories of Richard and this wonderful Iron Lady.
