I found a video in my recommendation that was 10 years ago . Mostly I find 2-5 year old videos anything after 10 is a rare sight.
Take the time to learn how to use a newsreader and RSS feeds. Feedly, Thunderbird's built-in RSS reader, whatever. Yes, it might take 20 seconds or 2 minutes to set up a feed instead of 2 seconds to click the subscribe button, but then you get every new video and don't have to try to sift through TH-cam's recommendations. Plus I can easily watch a vid and delete it if I don't need info, or just not delete that entry to be able to come back to it later when I have more time or want to watch a series (or grab a recipe from a cooking channel or something).
Of course, 99% of people don't want to be bothered and so they just suffer thru the crappy algorithm instead since it'll at least get YT more views/ads vs. nothing at all.
I started this account fresh to reset the profile goog had on my viewing habits. I don't sub to anyone and every day, I search by name every CC I'm interested in watching. Now, I only get the creators I actively watch in my feed (plus the Sponsored YT videos that are basically ads), but it still recommends 11 year old AVGN and Thunderf00t videos I've already watched

King Hellverse Im pretty sure reviewtech doesnt plan to do this channel for his whole life. People switch jobs all the time. Unless he has connections or money "which he does", he should be able to get a decent job if he decides to quit in 20 years.

Will Simth is no creator he was a celebrity who had an established status . So if he made a channel on TH-cam it would be on the top. TH-cam promotes people like Markiplier gotta love him any problem he has contacts TH-cam and fixed like it never happened.
People who are TH-camrs really need to look into getting a real job outside of TH-cam because there are tons of new rules coming. TH-cam can instantly take your channel down with no explanation. Next year TH-cam will be getting rid of tons of channels that are under one million subs especially if your not helping TH-cam make money. People say TH-cam is a job but in reality it's a hobby.
I have a tiny youtube channel of crap I do to my Cars and electronics unboxings and I have always Considered TH-cam as something cool to just upload stuff as a HOBBY. I dont even remember when people started the whole TH-cam Ad revenue stuff and then quiting their jobs and relying on Patreon on the side. I've seen some people make it BIG here and some straight Out Being Homeless because they refuse to give up the TH-cam life and dont want to go to a regular job till things pick up.
I'm glad my job pays me decent to provide for my family and my hobby lol! So I have no ads on my videos. 🤷♂️ moral of the story, dont rely on TH-cam for your ONLY source of income.
TH-cam is barely as old as a high school Freshman. I don't think they meant for anyone to have long term careers and retirement packages from being a TH-camr. It's a volatile young company that is always going to keep changing. If you are trying to do a full time career for your lifetime, at a 14 yr old internet website, you might want to think about a backup career.
TH-cam just keeps on making it harder for people to grow on this site. :(

Your point on the algorithm not pushing your video because it tailors to a different audience is spot on. My tech channel started off with Samsung reviews, and every non-Samsung review I create barely gets pushed to the extent that Samsung content does. I’m extremely grateful for the growth my small channel has had in just a few months time, but I’m already seeing how that hamster wheel effect is real.
The tech space is very competitive but I really enjoy your tech reviews so I hope you can still create them when it makes sense to! Thanks for all you do Rich!

I saw this new version of a censored, less-free TH-cam coming long before I even started my channel. So, I made a promise to myself that 1) TH-cam would be a hobby. When I had something to say/add to The Discussion™, I would. And 2) I'd stay true to myself and give my honest take, algorithm, monetization, and popularity be damned.
I had a fleeting dream of doing TH-cam as a job, but in hindsight I'm so glad I didn't go down that road.
I'm 21, I've been subscribed since I was a teenager in high school. I might not learn about something from you first because I'll see a tweet about it, but if it's news that is interesting to me then I will definitely watch your video. Go ahead and don't rush yourself to get the news out there first because at the end of the day when I check my subscriptions, I'll check up on what you upload regardless of if I already know about it.

Yup, TH-cam is tough! I've definitely experienced a light version of what you brought up even with my amount of output. Your in-depth understanding has explained why some of my videos have performed better than others. Unlike those that keep going and complain, I just pretty much stopped other than random videos on occasion, because it just wasn't worth it for me compared to other options, like selling on eBay, Facebook and doing my own site, articles and Twitter, however we'll see if I can implement more TH-cam, but it's definitely not my priority so far.
I know it's easy to worry about the competition, but personally if I want a review I watch several videos. I've been watching yours for years because you dont bullshit and waste my time, and you actually know about hardware. Keep it up, screw everyone else

Did not watch the video here is my educated guess: deadlines because if you don't keep the video's coming you'll lose subs with on top of that the stupid descissions youtube makes to give you extra headaches.

I thank God 🙏 I don't depend on TH-cam where you get no 401k, no retire benefits , no insurance, no pto, no promotion, your channel can be knocked at any time and that's it. Small channels have more room to complain and I don't see why big channels complain when you get all the views. 10k or so with 2k on each video and I'd be happy.

That's why I try to look at all the content of those I subscribe to, like their videos and help them out the best I can. Sometimes, I don't like their content, but I will either leave it alone, or like it anyway. I know the views help, but the likes help more.
