I'm 70 years old. I work full time. I have gamed since the 80's, started with Wolfenstein. I worked hard all of my life and still do. I play every day. I have a Switch, Xbox One, Wii, XBox, 3 PCs and an I pad with games on them. I'm never bored. Dont watch much TV. Love the Rant!!!

My wife and me watch a movie on my ps4, she loses interest by getting on her phone. after a while, i take the movie off and play borderlands 3. Suddenly, i'm "neglecting" her lol
Vale GTA I hear ya. I say to my wife let’s watch a movie , after a while she checks Instagram and watches reality and cooking shows. I’m not knocking people doing those things, but I do believe in respect for hobbies. With that said there should be together time for wife and family. Now a days communication is neglected and disrespected by foolish pride.

If there is disrespect there, whether it be the wife over the husband's video games or the husband for the wife's reality shows? It also disrespects the person and shows a willingness to manipulate them into what they want out of a partner. For instance I personally find reality shows/soap operas/wrestling[which is a soap opera] fucking idiotic, but if my partner loved them I would have to be understanding of their interest and view it benignly, and be happy they're enjoying themselves. Just as well they would need to understand that I just don't enjoy that sort of thing and wouldn't participate. :P

One of my employees saw me play my switch while I was sitting down waiting for them to leave the establishment (everyone was done with their duties I just have to sit until everyone leaves). He said “you too big to be playing video games”. I’m 31... 6’4 and 255 lbs. idk if he said I’m too big physically to be on a small switch or if I’m too old. I simply responded “You paying my bills bro? If you’re not, don’t worry about what I do”.

I have a friend at work who's 35, 3 kids, and she's a big fan of gears of war. I'm not getting the "the embarrassed to be a gamer" phrase in today's society with so many games and the impact the industry has today. I’m 31 and disabled. I’m actually encouraged to play games (within reason lol) by my loved ones and even my doctors. My eye doctor even helped me get new glasses to reduce eye strain. Since I started gaming, now that games have more accessibility, my hand eye coordination has increased, as has my dexterity and confidence.

One coworker said video games were childish, and I said to her that I bet she liked stupid reality shows like "Real Housewives of Wherever" which are infinitely more childish than video games because they're about GROWN WOMEN who don't mature and grow up. I'm one of those odd chicks, middle-aged at that, who loves playing video games (with and w/o my husband, hah) . Have since Atari in the 80s. I bought my husband (boyfriend back then) a GameCube for his bday back in the day , then eventually a Wii, Xbox 360 elite, Gameboy Advance, DS, and last Christmas a Switch. I played with ALL of them, and enjoy PC gaming and VR (he doesn't usually). I couldn't IMAGINE not gaming! It's a normal hobby, not obsessive. Way more fun than Facebook and Instagram. :/

I tell that to everyone, my mother would say something like "arent you too old for that" and I'm like, it's better than watching tv, I'm interacting with something solving puzzles, reading, timing button presses instead of passively getting stuff from the tv. I use CEG myself and I think it’s reasonable in its own way. Not everyone has the kind of wonga to plonk down that kind of card outright. The 2080Ti is pretty beastly. Just don’t expect it to go full 60fps 4K for recent games.
But to get back to Rich’s video. I have never been embarrassed about my hobby. And I’ve been gaming since 82’.

Im born 1982 and Im playing games. I love them. A good thing about games are that they make you interact and keeps your brain occupied and building new braincells cause you need to solve problems etc. A show or a movie is just something you watch and then turn off. You never interact with movies like in games.

My eye doctor actually told me to keep playing video games for hand eye coordination because I am blind in my left eye. That was 20 years ago; I've still got it baby. Video games should be prescribed more often. :P

I'm 29 years old, I've been gaming since mid to late 90s & never look back or regret. I work at a pizza shop & make a decent living. Enough to move out & pay my own bills. I clean & take care of personal matters like car maintenance or lawn maintenance. Gaming is something I do on my down time to make me happy & have a good life. Also anime is part of my joy too. When my coworkers (the one who are older 40s or 50s, maybe mid to late 30s) asks me you still game & I say yes. I replied, "I game on my down time", with no shame.

There are kids that give me grief sometimes at school when I’m playing Splatoon or Mario kart at school. I wanna play with my friend at lunch so what. Luckily most people are really nice and the usually just ask how much the switch was or the lite was ( I have both the og switch and the lite), what game we are playing etc. I sometimes play on the bus ride home, I know I’m getting some weird stares but I love to play. It’s one of my very few hobbies b

Well doing many activities does help you improve something not just video games, at least is better than the following obssessive activity such as; Studying all day until your brain damage, keep searching for job and pull out your hairs until your bald, watching tv all day and learn no actual skills, or do nothing at all.
That's true, but look at all the hours people waste away. Sometimes thousands on one game. Video games do nothing to positively contributing to life whatsoever unless you can make a living doing it, but that is financial gain, not spatial awareness.

True, but nothing wastes more time than video games - in my experience. I could literally sit and play for 8 hours. I couldn't sit and watch four movies back to back. I'm just contrasting time wasted, but def not saying one is worse than the other.

THis is a good rant. I, too, feel embarrassed at times. Im in my late 30s and yearn for another mom to share my hobby of video games....but, if i tell them, will I get judged? I feel like I will. Wish we could get over this stigma because you have a lot of valid points! Great video!
Thanks for this video, I even shared it to my Facebook so my wife and family could understand exactly how I feel since I cannot explain things very well. Also, in 2020, the way people are in this world, video games, work and family is all I need to survive.

I think I honestly needed to hear this.. ive only stopped by the channel a few times but this hit home for me...lately I havent even posted as much gaming content on my youtube channel because of how other people have treated me when I talk about games. im 29 years old and Ive been a huge fan of the animal crossing series since 2005 and ive been playing games for as long as I can remember this video just makes me want to pursue that series more and even just post more content myself thanks much!

5 mins into the video. Liked it. Subscribed. Im 33. I've gamed since my Dad showed me his old Atari/Commodore collection. My first console was a Sega Master System and it had me hooked. I used to think I was too old for gaming until I found the love on TH-cam and Social Media for it. Now im more passionate about it than ever before. And im happily open about it. My proudest gaming moment buying my first Gaming PC last year. I knew NOTHING about hardware etc in the slightest. Now im putting together parts to build a PC with my own hands. Purely driven on the passion of gaming. Bravo on the vid. 🎮🎮🎮

People who are obsessed with sports fascinate me. They lose their minds over other people's wins/losses. At a place I once worked, I was the only adult known for playing games, which I didn't talk about often, and I was mocked relentlessly for it. I'd just throw it back at them by criticizing their collective worship of NASCAR. If you're a fan of that, fine, but don't criticize me for "wasting [my] life" when you spent hours watching cars drive in circles.

To put it simply (question at 4:50), the difference between playing games vs watching TV (for an hour) is an active, brain stimulating activity where the person gets to make decisions vs passive pre-determined content consumption that one (usually) cannot influence directly. I prefer the first one.
Never be ashamed of what you love to do. Just like the man said, as long as it doesn't affect your responsibilities and you're not neglecting your family enjoy yourself. I love playing video games and I love my sports. I'm also in three fantasy football leagues. But these things are not my life. I just enjoy them. Great Video

I disagree with Rich here, I’ve never known gamers to be looked down upon... me and others I know are always ashamed of essentially ‘wasting time’. Most people I know who watch reality tv shows etc laugh at how embarrassing and stupid it is that they do it. Same goes for binge watching. In the past, yeah, “games are for kids - grow up” now we all just laugh at ourselves jokingly for spending hours vegetating :)

Hats off to you sir for the great video. I’ve always been a gamer, never been ashamed of it, but it does seem like people look down on it. I’m not one to sit and watch sports all day, just never been my thing. If I want to play basketball I’d just go outside and play it. I love games and will always have an affinity for them.

My mom has been into video games her whole life. She’s 57, a nurse with 12 hour days and whenever she comes home, she pops in either GTA 5 or Red Dead. She’s currently been playing RE2.

I ran out of fucks to give by the end of my junior year of high school, started being myself, liked what I liked, and did what I wanted to do, and senior year I was the most popular I had ever been just because I was me instead of trying to fit in and be "acceptable."
I've carried that mindset with me through life and at 35 I'm perfectly content with myself and _still_ have no fucks to give about what anybody else thinks of me.

@Jon Jones Oh I figured Sif out eventually and the fight was a cakewalk in subsequent playthroughs. The first time was brutal though. I don't remember having too much trouble with the Taurus Demon.
