- One of the Most Dramatic Matches in Women's Volleyball History !!! Five-set battle puts Eczacibasi on top of the world. Türkiye’s Eczacibasi Dynavit Istanbul are the 2023 club champions of the world! They emerged victorious from a five-set battle against archrivals VakifBank Spor Kulubu of Istanbul in the 2023 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship final in Hangzhou to claim their third world title, after 2015 and 2016, and their sixth overall medal. Four-time champions VakifBank’s silver placed them on their ninth Club World Championship podium. The bronze medals went to Chinese hosts Tianjin Bohai Bank, their first podium in the competition after three participations.
Eczacibasi Dynavit persevered through a five-set saga in Sunday’s gold medal match to defeat VakifBank Spor Kulubu by a thrilling 3-2 (19-25, 25-23, 25-23, 23-25, 15-9) and return to the throne.
VakifBank were well in control throughout the first set and took it by a wide margin. Their domination was extended into the second set and they broke away with a lead as wide as eight points at 12-4, but then Eczacibasi worked their way back, caught up at 20-20 and went on to claim the set by 25-23. The third set offered a fierce and even battle. The lead changed hands several times before Eczacibasi again emerged with a narrow 25-23 win to edge forward in the match. Set four was not much different, but it was VakifBank that were ahead in the score for the most part, with Eczacibasi taking over occasionally. In the end, the set was once again decided by the narrowest of margins, but VakifBank’s way, to prompt a tie-breaker. Powered by their Generation O star Tijana Boskovic and Canadian outside Alexa Gray, Eczacibasi took an early lead in the fifth set and never let go. The Serbian striker hammered the 15-9 match winner with a block-out swing to get the title celebrations underway.
The even duel on the court resulted in mixed overall statistics. VakifBank outblocked (16-14 in stuffs) their opponents and committed fewer unforced errors (16-24), while the winners prevailed in offence (73-63 in spike kills) and in serving (4-2 in aces). Tijana Boskovic led Eczacibasi to victory with 27 points to her name. Her tally included one ace and one block. Outside hitter Hande Baladin contributed another 20 points, while Alexa Gray and middle blocker Sinead Jack finished with 17 and 12 points, respectively. VakifBank’s American opposite Jordan Thompson topped the match chart with as many as 33 points, also including one ace and one block. American middle Chiaka Ogbogu and Brazilian outside and captain Gabriela Guimaraes scored 16 points each for VakifBank.

Oh my God. It was full of emotions on both sides. As the speaker said; what a game, what a performance! Both teams gave everything to win. We as spectators enjoyed every second of the game, I've never seen a game like this in a long time. Congrats to both teams, thank you for delivering for such an amazing match. This is real volleyball.

That game was simply phenomenal. From literally the first point to the end, it was full of long rallies and competition of very talented and dedicated players, as well as staff . Vakıfbank started very strongly and dominated the first set. When the score reached 12 - 4 in the second set, as an Eczacıbaşı fan who used to lose finals, I though it was the end. Bu somehow, our team made a huge come-back. This is something we usually see from Vakıfbank. So, we beat them in their own way. Hande was the best player in my opinion. She motivated and supported her teammates as she plays quite good. So, I believe that she was the most important figure of coming back because she was the very first person who didn't accept losing the game. Of course, Elif and Tica were also amazing and Gray helped a lot. Thanks girls with love and respect.
Vakifbank need a real opposite. Jordan Thompson, a very good player, is simply not at the level of Vargas, Egonu, Karakurt, Haak or Boskovich. At that level in the Turkish league, this is what Vakifbank should be fielding. Ebrar Karakurt is killing people in Russia. She is like a woman among girls there... Other than that Russian sports salaries tend to be higher than those in countries like Turkey, I am wondering what is preventing Vakifbank from luring her away. It is sad to see a team with the brilliance of Cansu Ozbay, Zehra Gunes, and Gabi Guimareas fall short of what they are clearly capable of because of weakness at one of the most important places on the court.
@@user-bk6gx7sg3jAnd Gabi has signed with Imoco for the next year. I don't know if it's possible to keep her on the team, but Vakıfbank is bleedig for sure. I wish to see Ebrar in Turkey again, but as far as I know, she has no intention for coming back, and she 's extended her contract a few weeks ago.
Tijana is simply the Boss,she is so composed and I love how Alexa is improving alot of her spikes.

That deciding set was great. Gray was so effective Eczacibasi enjoyed an early lead, but Vakif were catching up and then Boskovic played like there's no tomorrow scoring 5 straight points which gave them a 4 point advantage while the whole team defending like crazy minimizing Vakif's offense, even Jack dug a power hit by Gabi. Stevanovic's block and touches in the latter part were also a big deal. Then Boskovic finished the match a la 2022 World Championship (Serbia vs. Brazil).

It came down to a disparity in opposites. Where Jordan Thompson could only manage small tip overs, Boskovich was hammering artillery in those moments when you need to close out points. Tijana Boskovich is absolutely one of the biggest and best opposites on the planet. Jordan Thompson is small, and not a particularly physically imposing woman. Vakifbank uses her in place of Paola Egonu, who departed for Milan. However, there is no equivalence between the two, and as a result, there has been a severe drop off in the offensive power of the team. Vakifbank should try to get Ebrarkurt back. She is playing for Kaliningrad in Russia, where she is killing the weaker competition there. It is likely that the Russians are paying her more, but surely Vakifbank, which could afford Egonu, can work something out with her. As it is there is too much of a gulf in talent between Boskovich and Jordan Thompson, for Vakifbank to be able to contend with Eczacbasi...

This is a clasico in Women's Turkey Volleyball history, Eszacibasi vs Vakif Bank, it's always like that when they both meet in all competition. Congrats to them both. The year or 2023 was an outstanding season for Turkey Women's Volleyball, 2 titles in a raw for they national team, yet be completed by Eszacibasi with the world club championship title.
Oh well, unfortunately for them, Fenerbahce Opet, which is leading the table, will now have much more to say about it, now that Melissa Vargas has returned from China, and is fast regaining her form. For my money, Fener is the best team in Turkey. They have size, skill and speed. They also have the best server in women's volleyball, in the person Arina Federovtseva... Can you imagine what will happen when Andrea Mafrici figures out a way to get all 6'8 of Magdalena Stisyak and Melissa Vargas on the floor at any time... How will anyone get any thing through? Bend them, will be Gizen Orge to vacuum any ball that should somehow get through a frontline of Stisyak, Eda Erdem/ Asli Kalac and Melissa Vargas... At her height, I have seen Stisyak spike balls amost directly down, without even jumping....

This was a great match for sure, but i’m a little bit dissapointed because hande was not in the dream team which she really deserved it
When they back home, at the airport a journalist asked about that matter. She just said; "My main goal was to be world champion 2023 with my team, and we became World champion... And about this "Dream Team" thing... Oh well, I got used to it long time ago, I always avoid to have such dreams"
