I used to do this job from 2021-2023 I’m 21 when I started I was 19 I really thought it was the dream job for a young guy that doesn’t like getting up early but since may this year I have just given up my last delivery was in early June. I won’t talk about everything here but the low pay literally sometimes like 25 quid for 5 hours of work and the insanely low demand since June has made me give up once and for all I live in Lincoln so the only time we get orders is when we have students other than that we have to many people ordering and not enough orders most of the drivers I know have quit like me and work in my factory earning 80-120 quid a day instead. It’s great to know that I will be paid for every hour of my work and I don’t have to risk getting ran over by a car
i always tip at least 2pounds , if its beelivery in early hours i tip 5pounds , tonight i gave cash tip of 5 on top as i saw how far the deliveroo guy was coming from on the tracker , i respect all delivery people , everyone needs tip at least 2pounds min ,
So today I had the worst experience with Just eat as it sent me the wrong address to 3 different orders and I had to call the customers for directions which they were much more of help. In general worst evening I had but pulled through ending it on a somewhat good note
There will always be delivery drivers. cause it will be young drivers looking for a driver or university students. Plus most restaurants & take aways are hiring their own drivers. I use Just Eat in Northern Ireland & the Chinese restaurant I order from gets my order & it’s at the door with in minutes of accepting the order. Delivery’s are a life line & gives choice for disabilled people who can’t go to them take aways. Restaurants cater to the customers eating in the restaurants first then deliverys second
Waiting is such a pisstake as a delivery driver myself but why on earth would u accept from the same restaurant where they took the piss only couple of orders ago, I myself will never accept from that restaurant for at least a week
2:50 ngl as a customer there is nothing more off-putting than seeing a restaurant swarmed with delivery riders and their gear like this. That said, I have a new found respect for the people doing the job, it can't be easy doing so much physical work for so little pay
I order groceries off Ubereats quite often and always give £3 tip. I used to be a fast food delivery driver when I was younger and there's nothing more exciting than a tip- I remember near Xmas I would get nearly £20 in tips some nights. I only got £45 for 6 hours work though so tips were great. I once ordered a McDonalds at midnight and they guy came on a pushbike (about 2 miles), it was his first ever delivery and I gave him a £5 tip. I was so impressed someone could have the drive to do that, especially at midnight. It's funny how things like that will stay with you forever but they don't even know how much you admired them haha.
You have a point haha. Although the delivery apps are organised so that the cooking starts happening before you get to the restaurant as the customer has ordered it well in advance of me arriving there.
I thank you for highlighting the pros and cons that everyday pple need to know abt food delivery the riders and drivers should be given £ 1.50 from the foood company if they go over certain wait time e.g. 15 mins 20 30 mins so u get paid 40 50p evvery 10 mins you wait
That is shocking, but there should be something in place to prevent the waiting and effective loss on earning for the rider. At the moment the industry is dying off and no one can afford to keep paying.
Just don't be tricked by the Just Eat waiting time reimbursement. You need to be there 10mins before it triggers and then it pays less than leaving to do another job. Your hourly rate will plunge if you aren't selective.
Mainly the problem is not the restaurant, it is the Deliveroo and some riders. If you have 2 chefs working in the kitchen and they can push out 1 order in 10 minutes, Deliveroo expects these 2 people making 10-15 large orders in 10 minutes, everything cooked perfectly, and everything packed. It is impossible. In Deliveroo edition kitchens you can mark an order when it is ready, so the riders know they can pick it up, but in restaurants this thing doesn't exist. Deliveroo is washing their hands of this, because 10 minutes for an order is plenty. Also common problem some riders turn up, they show the number of the order, they pick up the foodbag, and when they are out of sight they cancel the order. The next rider is standing there, accepting the order, and wondering why he have to wait. Probably he should look around outside, because his colleague eating the stolen food somewhere near.
I have a zero wait policy. If the staff aren’t professional enough to have orders ready for the pick up time they get unassigned. Bad / slow / unprofessional service pisses off customers and jeapodises the entire industry . I want no part in unprofessionism, so I’m not shy of using the decline button. And I focus on do8ng deliveries for the merchants that can be bothered to meet the collection times.
Restaurants press "Ready" right? I had one restaurant apologize to me for accidentally pressing ready, so I was waiting 15 odd mins. Which means some restaurants are pressing ready when the food isn't ready. Other restaurants have it worked out, ready very close to when you arrive.
I'm not sure how it works from the restaurants side...if they have to press ready and then the order gets sent to the rider I'm not sure. I don't think this is how it works though, I think they start preparing the order and the order gets sent out to the rider but not totally sure tbh.
We can press ready if it’s done but we don’t really have an option to say it’s not ready just eat, Uber and Deliveroo give the kitchen 20 minutes to prepare the food and when you have a full restaurant it’s not always going to be on time and because corporates can be quite cheap you won’t have many in the kitchen to save costs therefore food gets out slower but because of this 20 minute time frame that the delivery companies get we have to juggle cooking for 7-8 tickets whilst having too cook for two deliveries at the same time
Pretty much I blame the corporates and the delivery companies not the riders or front of house or managers as we have no control over how the system works
I work for a food delivery company, and two restaurants that I deliver from quite regularly ( Thai restaurant and an independent chicken shop, not kfc or favourite) often have food waiting on the counter for over 10 minutes. The guy who runs the buffalo chicken shop always tells me that the Deliveroo couriers often cancel orders even before getting to the shop
Also, the company I work for pays me a flat rate, plus drop fees and long distant fees Also, I’d never order delivery from McDonald’s. Even when eating in, the food is Luke warm at its best 90% of the time. Imagine having that Luke warm food delivered…?
I'm doing deliveroo part time in Singapore. I used to accept every orders as well. It's not worth it! They kept sending me long distance orders. Once I started to pick and choose, surprisingly, Im getting more orders and earning more as well with the same amount of hours worked.
Seen a few videos of yours on this type of work, and it is quite obvious now why Deliveroo drivers went on strike for a while. Even on a 'good day' where the randomness works out in your favour you get just above minimum wage. (and a lot of these companies are not small businesses but giants of the food and drink world, yet they pay a few quid for you cycling for miles just for one order?) £12 an Hour? Yeah right! Needs to be a standardise min amount for an order regardless of the factors involved in any location. Or maybe even a resting and ready bonus if you are perched and ready to accept an order and you are waiting for 15-20 minutes.
Funnily enough my longest wait since returning to delivery work, was in fact, Nando's (20 minutes) in Chiswick, London. The one in Hammersmith was always fast. McDonald's is often very bad as well. One thing I've learnt is that grocery orders are amazing. Nothing to be cooked, always ready.
@@GigHustle The chest strap of your bag will help a lot with that, my bag has that and a second stomach strap, when I use those by back isn't taking the weight so much. I worked for 3 years at Ocado Zoom for Stuart, however I used a rack back then so I could split the weight. I just don't feel the need for a rack with Deliveroo/Uber, so I'm backpack only now (no more bungee roping). Still can be worth it to save your back! That was my main reason for buying it years ago.
for what exactly? he's middle class, has a vehicle and clearly doesn't need the money but people who actually rely on this as a job are the ones working hard from these companies, i feel that these delivery apps are unethical tbh
Really hope Just Eat keeps using Stuart …in Southampton at least. It pays so much better than other apps. If Just Eat take over, I really hope the multipliers are at least as good. On a weekend I often see 1.55-1.6x which makes a world of difference compared to the other apps. Had my bicycle stolen last week 😢 but luckily I had taken out a monthly insurance plan only the month before so got all the money back. Hey, I'm thinking of doing some deliveries myself, however I ride a motorcycle. I was wondering how you deal with handling drinks with the drink bag you have listed since there doesn't appear to be any cup holders, thanks!
The side pockets or wedging the inner thermal if you have one. The new bags I use velcro bands for drink bags it has elastic loops or the thermal divider
Bro can anone please let me know that how can i leave a fleet and work as an independent delivery driver or will i have to deactivate this account and make a new one
The guy at 22:35 was smiling at you because he finds it funny that you work for £3.28 and it takes you half an hour to complete the order. That's the reason I stopped doing this kind of job after my first shift. Restaurants are taking a piss, companies like Uber, Deliveroo or Just Eat doesn't care to solve that problem or compensate you for wait time and you have to take care of all the costs yourself.
I assure you thats not the reason, Nando's in 2023 got you working like a slave for minimum wage, thats why the food takes so long, cause they rota half the staff they need. Riders get flexability but no stability, Nandos you get one wage for two peoples worth of work. We're all getting shafted out here. Source: I worked at Nandos for 4 years, now Dobby is finally free and looking at courier gigs
Wolt delivery gives you a compensation after 15 minutes wait. Of course the courier has to claim it first and then the company will credit this money in your account. I'm sure they take that compensation fee directly from the restaurant.
My dad designed my electric bike many years ago! He has an electric bike shop in Nottingham called PoweredBicycles. The battery is 17.5ah 48v and I have two of them...well I can get more from my dad but I don't need them haha. They last about 4-5 hours each on full power!
Every single nandos is like that. Takes about 15mins + just for one order. The one near me takes the piss. Even if one or two orders are ready they don't hand it out to anyone until they have like 5 orders ready to give. Stupid rule and makes people wait for no reason. I normally don't do deliveries for nandos unless it's a very dead day
Yeah I tend to have to wait for Nando's orders! That is such a stupid rule...the food is going cold and the customer is waiting. I think people forget that there is an actual customer behind each delivery person!
For restaurants like Nando's, are you able to report them on the Deliveroo app to report that they delayed you heavily? Surely it's in Deliveroo's interest that they sort themselves out as it'll only generate complaints and I bet Deliveroo have to refund quite a bit for late orders.
Hey! I am thinking about to start as a delivery cyclist.. hat kind of bike do you recomend to me and do you lock the bike everytime you go inside the restaurants and take the orders? I like your videos keep it on, thanks.
I like you documenting this. I personally dont use any of the delivery services because its effectively a half step up from the servant classes we had in Victorian Britain. Or the terribly poor tiffinwallahs in India. Immigrant labour provides a convenient way for a society to offload the lowest paid jobs to. People just need to get off their arses and pick their own food up.
Yep plus you never feel satisfied from a delivery/takeaway meal, that's the bottom line. That and I know from having worked in restaurants for a few years that the food is never fresh. The chopped salad was cut minimum 2 or 3 days ago so has lost all it's vitamins, if you work in a restaurant you don't do it daily, nor do you wait for the old batch to finish before you prep the new batch. I used to joke that if you ate all your meals in restaurants, you'd get scurvy in a month.
I don't think that is the solution bro haha. They were pretty nice in general but I think Nando's don't have great operations for deliveries and that's probably true for most Nando's...so they need to sort out their system for deliveries! Usually poor service comes from bad management too...so that could be the issue but not sure...
Interesting video. I have a couple of questions if you wouldn't mind answering them. How much is a nice tip? What percentage of people give tips? How far is too far for an e-ɓike vs a moped?
£3 plus and I'm happy 😊 Someone gave me 45p the other day. It didnt even trigger the electronic thankyou system. I find less than a pound an insult and id rather them not bother. 1 in 10 people tip I find I use ebike and have a 4 mile limit to customer
@@ToThePointCT Ah someone finally responded, thank you. Okay so I usually tip at least £1 depending on the size of the order and distance. The furthest I've order is about 3.4 miles and I assumed that was quite far, they usually turn up on mopeds anyway. It pisses me off when I've given a decent tip for the distance and they show up in a car despite the app claiming it's a moped or a bike and yeah I know why they do it. But damn 1 in 10? I mean yeah there isn't much of a tipping culture in the UK which I like for the most part but then I know what deliveroo are like so I understand that it can make a difference.
These videos help me understand behind the scenes. I e-bike commute to work so I know the pains or weight/range. Next time I see a bicycle delivery I’m 100% tipping a decent amount! Learned so much.
It's so annoying when they make you wait for so long plus their shitty behavior. A lot of riders have lost their accounts like that. They politely tell restaurants off for giving wrong wait times to riders, and not dedicating a staff member to deal with deliveries. And they hate being told off, so they report us and deliveroo just take their side without investigating. I'm not one to complain but this happens too often 😕
I'm sure the people that work at Nandos and every other restaurant have just as compelling stories about the nonsense they deal with that results in delayed orders.
That's beside the point though isn't it? They are on the platform to provide a service to their customers and so making the rider wait 20 minutes is also making the customer wait 20 minutes. Not only that the rider is now making less money because of it when they are already struggling to make minimum wage as it is. I can understand one time having a delay but twice...
@@GigHustle As a former 4 year Nandos vet, I can confidently say its because they have to cut hours to meet ever decreasing labour costs, in 2023 we run half the staff on a shift than we did before we started taking Deliveries in 2020. The shifts are understaffed and the employeers overworked, then the turnover is so high they're training new staff on grills every few months. The problem is at an exec level, the store managers would have to close the doors to meet delivery demand on a busy day, and then they'd have to report to the regional manager why they closed the doors, and no answer is sufficient.
Always wanted to do this job on top of my job as additional income but I don't think I'm capable of doing it as I'm impatient 🤣 and I would always want a hour pay to be £13 plus. Also, feel bad for delivery drivers in UK because they probably don't get tips like canada but I tip £2 it's not much but when I spend £20 plus on foods it's only right.
✌🏻😎🏴World wide delivery driver strike 😂. Seriously, You should be having minimum wage from your employer plus whatever you earn through deliveries. Anything less is illegal or should be illegal because minimum wages are basically there to say you are not doing slave labour.
your intro unironically is the reason deliveroo and uber takes the piss out of drivers pushing cheap labour and abusiving the cost of living crises because they know full well some drivers would even take orders if it was always £3 no matter the distance cause they have no other choice.

i always tip at least 2pounds , if its beelivery in early hours i tip 5pounds , tonight i gave cash tip of 5 on top as i saw how far the deliveroo guy was coming from on the tracker , i respect all delivery people , everyone needs tip at least 2pounds min ,
So today I had the worst experience with Just eat as it sent me the wrong address to 3 different orders and I had to call the customers for directions which they were much more of help.
We don't have that kind of problem in Oslo/Norway
With DoorDash they have an hourly rate so it’s worth waiting
I cant believe people dont tip these drivers.
guess this is why i wouldnt get any delivery job doing anything like this......
To be fair Nando's isn't fast food, just avoid the slow ones
You have a point haha. Although the delivery apps are organised so that the cooking starts happening before you get to the restaurant as the customer has ordered it well in advance of me arriving there.
What an interesting watch, with clear visuals and polite convos. Nice job!
I thank you for highlighting the pros and cons that everyday pple need to know abt food delivery the riders and drivers should be given £ 1.50 from the foood company if they go over certain wait time e.g. 15 mins 20 30 mins so u get paid 40 50p evvery 10 mins you wait
Fair play bro, pray for the genuine gig workers, it needs to get better
That is shocking, but there should be something in place to prevent the waiting and effective loss on earning for the rider. At the moment the industry is dying off and no one can afford to keep paying.
It's strange that McDonald's and nandos have the most expensive delivery fees but I always wait ages and ages for them.
The girl who handed over the food at KFC was fit.
(Just putting it out there.)
😂
Perhaps Nando’s should buy an extra chip pan.
😂
I feel the same and fed up with restaurants lying but moving from Uber to just eat next week so we will see if there is any change
Another good video though
I agree with what the guy says at 10:17. I stopped taking further away orders and now I only get offered close-by orders, which is what I want.
Well done for having the balls to say something
I have a zero wait policy. If the staff aren’t professional enough to have orders ready for the pick up time they get unassigned. Bad / slow / unprofessional service pisses off customers and jeapodises the entire industry . I want no part in unprofessionism, so I’m not shy of using the decline button. And I focus on do8ng deliveries for the merchants that can be bothered to meet the collection times.
5 minute wait maximum and don't go to far to get an order, find a reasonably quick restaurant and wait outside it.
Agreed Barry! I don't usually pick up from this Nando's but I was accepting every Deliveroo order in this video haha
11:06 they should atleast have chargers for the bikes then 😉🤗
Another brilliant one
I work for a food delivery company, and two restaurants that I deliver from quite regularly ( Thai restaurant and an independent chicken shop, not kfc or favourite) often have food waiting on the counter for over 10 minutes. The guy who runs the buffalo chicken shop always tells me that the Deliveroo couriers often cancel orders even before getting to the shop
Also, the company I work for pays me a flat rate, plus drop fees and long distant fees
Also, I’d never order delivery from McDonald’s.
Grocery orders are definitely quick pick up times but sometimes the bags are sooo heavy and it kills my back haha
She sounded so surprised on the phone...lol guessing that was your mum?
That was my mom haha. She probably sounds surprised that I’m out working 😂😂😂
Where are you? What are you doing? Are you working? Definitely a mom. Haha.
You should be Knighted you are a Hero to England
for what exactly? he's middle class, has a vehicle and clearly doesn't need the money but people who actually rely on this as a job are the ones working hard from these companies, i feel that these delivery apps are unethical tbh
Going to put it towards my first e-bike costing £1799 (sale price), complete with torque sensor, hydraulic disc brakes and a Bosch Active Line Plus mid drive motor, capable of 30-80 miles.
When you said I think I heard the bird laughing at me that was to funny 😄 😆 😂
😂😂😂
Extremely fair assessments throughout. Good for you man.
That took the pee Nandos get organised! Fairplay Gig for pointing that out how much you get paid per order!
Excellent video as always!
It had to be done! I'm a VERY patient person but I had to say something on this occasion. Cheers mate!
Bro can anone please let me know that how can i leave a fleet and work as an independent delivery driver or will i have to deactivate this account and make a new one
A 15 minute wait is not a long time to wait at all pretty normal for people at Asda someone waited about 2.5 hours today for an uber
Anything longer than 5 minutes is too long. If a restaurant is behind they should be honest so the driver can cancel it and get another order
Great video as always Jay! Quick question - why do you park so far away from the city?
Yes it is his or his co-workers problem, they are the only ones to fix it.
Wolt delivery gives you a compensation after 15 minutes wait. Of course the courier has to claim it first and then the company will credit this money in your account. I'm sure they take that compensation fee directly from the restaurant.
What kind of bicycle are you riding? And what is the battery capacity?
That Nando’s was ridiculous 😂
For restaurants like Nando's, are you able to report them on the Deliveroo app to report that they delayed you heavily? Surely it's in Deliveroo's interest that they sort themselves out as it'll only generate complaints and I bet Deliveroo have to refund quite a bit for late orders.
Ubereats you can report order not ready but it doesn't really seem to do much
Hey! I am thinking about to start as a delivery cyclist.. hat kind of bike do you recomend to me and do you lock the bike everytime you go inside the restaurants and take the orders? I like your videos keep it on, thanks.
1:14
Bro says Scamms
You tube: yeah, he said guns.
I’m 5 mins drive from that nandos. Usually they aren’t that long
I like you documenting this.
And everybody clapped
Yep plus you never feel satisfied from a delivery/takeaway meal, that's the bottom line. That and I know from having worked in restaurants for a few years that the food is never fresh. The chopped salad was cut minimum 2 or 3 days ago so has lost all it's vitamins, if you work in a restaurant you don't do it daily, nor do you wait for the old batch to finish before you prep the new batch. I used to joke that if you ate all your meals in restaurants, you'd get scurvy in a month.
those bike bar things ...drive me bonkers ...
What ebike do you use mate?
Hi, which bike are you currently riding, could you link me it please
My dad designed my electric bike many years ago! He has an electric bike shop in Nottingham called PoweredBicycles :)
I blacklist restaurants who don't have food ready on arrival
you'll soon have no one to pick up from
I love you gig hustle ❤
I record them and post them online when they’re on some bs
I always get debt advice adverts on your videos, coz obviously the system knows if u do this for a job then your probably in a lot of debt!
I have never had a takeaway delivery, if I did I wouldn't want that man, who kept rubbing his nose, to deliver it. Basic hygiene
That looked like a everything is going wrong shift 😵💫
That is why you don't accept every order haha 😂
@@GigHustle sometimes corporate doesn’t give us a choice and the managers aren’t allowed turn them off 🤷♂️
Everyone is nandos needs to get fired bro they’re tripping
I don't think that is the solution bro haha. They were pretty nice in general but I think Nando's don't have great operations for deliveries and that's probably true for most Nando's...so they need to sort out their system for deliveries! Usually poor service comes from bad management too...so that could be the issue but not sure...
You are a beautiful, gorgeous young person!
Thank you! 😊
Interesting video. I have a couple of questions if you wouldn't mind answering them.
How much is a nice tip?
What percentage of people give tips?
How far is too far for an e-ɓike vs a moped?
£3 plus and I'm happy 😊
Someone gave me 45p the other day. It didnt even trigger the electronic thankyou system. I find less than a pound an insult and id rather them not bother.
1 in 10 people tip I find
I use ebike and have a 4 mile limit to customer
What you can do is give the delivery a bad rating in the hopes someone listen to your feedback 😅and improve the service
@@pmc8651 I hope fees go up soon in line with the cost of living crisis
nice videoo, what is the model of your bike, where can i find it? thankss
Deliveroo is paying me really high I am getting 1.5 miles for 6 pound right now without boost
Tipping culture is not a thing here wish it was I try and tip as I know what is involved 😊
4:37 I think drones are more likely to take over
✌🏻😎🏴World wide delivery driver strike 😂. Seriously, You should be having minimum wage from your employer plus whatever you earn through deliveries. Anything less is illegal or should be illegal because minimum wages are basically there to say you are not doing slave labour.
Ya know fools everyone who works for these the pay is absolutely shocking £3 for a delivery its ridiculous
your intro unironically is the reason deliveroo and uber takes the piss out of drivers pushing cheap labour and abusiving the cost of living crises because they know full well some drivers would even take orders if it was always £3 no matter the distance cause they have no other choice.
You can't be "fed up OF" anything, it is fed up WITH!
Mate, get some road tyres! Save that battery and your legs.
Nottingham the land of spray paint 😂
What a crappy job. At my work i do these orders and i hate it
Nice vlog
Are you mad!!!?
I would laugh my tits off if you ended up in Derby or Leicester or something 😆 🤣
🐝
Yeah especially when Immigrants doing this job. Less money is okay for us 🤣🙏 Of course we want more also. 😌
Longest wait uhhh Mcdonalds I guess
cooll igg
Nice work buddy. Can't believe how poorly you guys are paid over there.
Llll
_Just subscribed, love your firm buy friendly manner, (nando's seem to be terrible in Nottingham)_ 🛵
