  • Corn is a staple in our daily lives: it’s in everything from the food we eat to the fuel in our cars. Most people aren’t aware of how many products contain corn. In this eye-opening TEDx talk, Sophie Maher highlights the dangers of excessive corn additives in our diet. Also, Maher addresses the environmental price of over-farming corn, shedding light on how it harms our ecosystems. Join Maher to explore our over-reliance on corn and the ways we can reduce our consumption. Sophie Maher is a senior at Chatham High School, who will enter Sacred Heart University’s College of Health Professions in the Fall. She has been a part of Chatham High School’s Performing Arts and Study Abroad Programs. Sophie is passionate about providing nutrition and dietary based education as well as fighting against food insecurity. In her free time, Sophie loves cooking global cuisines and taking care of her sassy chihuahua Roxy and hamster Toast. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
