  • Winter Camping - Polish Lavvu Hot Tent and Cooking
Winter Bushcraft in the Ontario Wilderness.
Hello and thank you for joining me for another overnight adventure / gear review.
In this video, I set out on a snowy day to enjoy some hot tent camping.
I bring with me my 3W hot tent stove.
A hot tent wood stove is a real game changer when it comes to winter survival. I am now convinced. I spent a very comfy night surrounded by wintry beauty.
The Polish Army Lavvu is perfect for hot tent winter camping.
In this video I show my favorite way how to set up a polish lavvu.
Suspended in midair it makes for a perfect winter tent.
I hope you enjoy this video and don't forget to comment.

Hi! Good video. I like this tent also. Sligh note. In polish we don't have and use that word: lavvu ;-). We speak Polish for it: pałatka (read: p.a.w.a.t.k.a, better check the pronunciation of a word on translator) Lavvu.. is a Sami tent, a kind of tipi, lower tipi, more resistant to strong wind and this is a word from the Sami language (Scandinavian Lapland). Funny journey of words, verbal/naming mess. We (Polish people) made the military raincoat which is called "pałatka" (two are made into a tent), and there is a word for it in English: tipi, tepee but almost everyone calls it: "lavvu" - Sams tent. So the name "polish lavuu" give's U polish sams tipi/tent ;-)

Bless you, you set up the ponchos right side up. So many use them inside out.

Would love to know who makes the stove, and the cookware looked pretty efficient, too. Nicely done!

Maybe those bugs were from the ground and released once iy melted.I think a budget tarp to the ground is an essential piece of kit.

Nice set up you have there:) question? Does it matter which way the ponchos are facing inward and outward? It looks like the inside of your ponchos is facing the element (snow). Is there an advantage with this? Just curious. 😊 ty.

Love this film. I have a Lavvu here in the UK and have just kitted it out over the past year with a small stainless steel stove and a very small low camp bed which massively helps with my bad back! I also have a small packaway chair for times when I need to sit more comfortably. Never a light weight option but all packs in my truck and is certainly walkable into a good location. A small four wheel garden truck helps to tow it all into the woods! I also solved the issue of being able to quickly close or open the tent without having to use the buttons, (or the trouble of sewing in a full length zip). I bought, very cheaply, a stack of large very lightweight stainless steel bulldog clips, used to make clip boards. (Amazon). Great quality with powerful springs. They are so easy to use to pinch together the sections of flap on the 'door'. If I need to get out quickly in a fire emergency, they just ping off under pressure or I can just remove those I need to get out for a pee in the night! I have also found that a third single section of Lavvu ( I am lucky to have two complete tents), added to the top and slewed over the same sleeve hole where the chimney extends, and then supported round on extra poles, makes a fantastic extra porch area to sit under. It keeps all the weather off while the door is open and I can cook in all weathers with no problem. The clips can also be used to hold the door section back and attached to the porch roof edge, making a nice wind proof wall. Please let me know the make of your wonderful wool smock!! Where can I get one? I am desperate to find exactly that type but have had no luck so far. Any info on getting hold of one like that would be wonderful!
