I doubt GotG 2 will even get nominated. Thor 3 is possible, but my money would go to Wonder Woman, The Last Jedi, and GitS for the blockbusters that are nominated.
Based on how fantastic the set pieces, prosthetics, costumes, and special effects look.. it seems that the geeks and nerds who actually grew up with the show ended up in production/design/engineering, whereas the writers and actors don't seem to care.
I think the movie was an amazing piece of art, as far as the visuals and aesthetics are concerned. The plot seemed solid enough for an American movie, my only issue was either in editing or directing because the movie did not prop the audience up for the big reveals or even to understand why Section 9 would rather side with the major than Hanka Robotics. I really hope Ghost in the Shell gets a sequel. I also appreciated the short duration of the movie, they did not want to waste anyone's time with a two and a half hour movie... but I would not have mind if they could have explained the Major's role, feelings and backstory a little more. The movie was, of course, missing a lot of the philosophy in the source material.
I just saw this film in 3D on IMAX and it was wonderful in every way. One of the best VFX movies ever, echoing and building on Bladerunner scenarios. Scarlett and all the actors were great.
This live action version of Ghost in the Shell was really great and action packed. Mainly from how tough of an action fighter Scarlett Johansson as the Major is with the ability to go invisible; makes her tougher than her other character Black Widow.
GITS is a BEAUTIFUL movie, but she could've put more of the Major's sarcasm in, and I wish we could've seen more of the Sec9 team in action other than Bato and Motoko's interactions. But overall, it's an amazing movie, 4 thumbs up (I didn't see alone :) )
just watched this movie today and i loved it, they did a great job . i new straight away the side of the police station in victoria street and the shooting down victoria street you can see its victoria it was pretty cool awsome job WETA
I saw the GitS movie last night, and I personally Loved it! The Multiped Tank blew my mind as it was menacing, and was built to kill cyborgs. I was sceptical at first, however you all pulled it off!
i have just seen the ghost in the shell live action movie the plot could have started when she was a young girl when the chem attack at birth or very young age having to adapted to be a cyborg from birth . but i like that it was brought to life . more to come
New Zealand! I actually thought it was shot in Hong Kong... it really resembled the Hong Kong Harbour and they also added the Bank of China building, the one with the white zig zaggy lights.
The scenes are amazing... The original animation version os one of a kind itself then makint its live version must have taken alot of time and effort and money........ Hats off to the whole crue and Scarlett never fails to amaze me
I can't wait to see this movie I think Scarlett Johansson was the perfect selection for this role, her body suit is out of this world sexy and we all know she kicks ass as you mentioned all her roles leading up to this have prepared her perfectly for this role , this movie is going to be epic I'm sure !!!!Man I can't wait!!!
Well my wife, (Who is Chinese and never saw the original) leaned over to me during the movie and said, "Is this supposed to be Hong Kong?" so I'm assuming the signage gave that impression in the new film as well.
The 1995 movie's setting was inspired by Hong Kong, thus 'i feel like i'm in Hong Kong'. He also elaborates right after that by saying they wanted it to look like Hong Kong.
Super mega awesome!! Can't wait :) Since I read it in dutch, in the '90ies, was hoping for a real action movie & now it's released on the 29th of March (in Belgium), just 2 days before my birthday... Together with patch 7.2 (Tomb of sargeras - World of Warcraft), the best birthday presents, somebody can get ;)
Thanks for making this live action Movie, I enjoyed it very much. Totally go for the Blue Ray! ♥.♥ Ghost in a Shell was a big influence for the anime world, so was this movie for the movie world. Looking forward to see more like this. (like Psycho Pass 4 example :3)
So New Zealand was where the majority of the movie was filmed. Many places looked just like Hong Kong. But they did film part of it in Hong Kong, didn't they? There were local news about the casts coming to and filming in Hong Kong. Think they should mention that too.
Just saw the movie Friday March 31, 2017 and it is AWESOME. Interesting moral question posed to cybernetics introduced with an action-packed spectacular by Scarlet Johansson. Plenty of Japanese actors and ramifications. COOL ... see it.
You are "Dammed Right"! This is going to be a world wake up call, for new a method of making some very good and interesting way to come to see a good movie! Finally we have some creative movies and makers.
Very enjoyable film, plenty of action visually stunning. Reading through the more critical die hard fan reviews I can see it might have been dumbed down a little but it needs to be a commercial success if were going to see any move GITS movies. I look forward to sequels and a longer directors cut version and some point in the future.
Visually it was beautiful and impressive but it certainly glossed over all the philosophical questions about identity, memory and fitting in. Whitewashing aside Scarlett was good and WETA's work was phenomenal. Needed to be asking more questions, really making you think about technology and its affect on humanity and the cast needed to be a hell of a lot more Japanese. I enjoyed it though.
Nice production value, still concerned about the story. Interviews give the impression that this is a generic "they stole my identity, I must get it back"-type of story, whereas... *spoiler ahead* ...the 1995 movie is more about the Major trying to figure out whether she is truly human or not after an AI system, Project 2501, claims to be a living entity just like any other human, making everyone question whether it's possible for an AI to really "generate" its own Ghost (i.e. soul), raising questions about what it means to be human, and so on... which is a far more interesting and compelling story than the "My name is Motoko. You stole my identity. Prepare to die"-type story I get the impression they're going for (which I hope I'm wrong about, frankly).
it's meant for mass appeal. existential crisis does not = block buster movie. I loved the original movie and sequels but movie theaters want shit the average person can go "oooh" and feel entertained by instead of challenging their ideas. people can't handle that. it's going to happen soon. deep mind. deep blue. Watson. I'm sure there are a few AI out recently that have surpassed these two. people think it's going to be centuries. it's going to be in our life time that AI becomes sentient or indiscernible between humans. if not? it's because it's being suppressed.
And the film isn't trying to be a remake of the 1995 film. It's pulling aspects from the 1995 film and SAC, and probably some of the other GitS material. And let's be real here, the 1995 film and Innocence; SAC; ARISE; and the manga all have very different feels to them and they all still feel 'Ghost in the Shell'.
Who cut this video together lol. They mention that they are in New Zealand like 20 times throughout the video its almost like a advertisement for tourism.
Based on the effort they've put in the overall production, I just might see this movie. The casting choices still concern me, however, and what little bit of the story I managed to glean from the trailer seems too cliché.
A decent SF film on its own, not quite GiTS though, too many 'tweaks' to the Major's back story which didn't work because it had a knock on effect to her interaction with other characters back story. Could have been longer to explore the "human soul" theme. I'm glad they made it, and it certainly couldn't have been done without SJ being on the project. I think SJ nailed the Major's idiosyncrasies perfectly. Practical and SFX are top drawer.
I liked it. Remember anime has ethnicities all mixed up, so this is a live action version of the anime. Sadly, it bombed at the box office, because there was room for a sequel. But there's always cult movie status
Oh wow, kudos to every single person who cooperated. Some people think that the actors don't care about production people/engineers and stuff but trust me movies are all about cooperation. Every single person in it is working together or you could never achieve this kinds of things. Imagine that they used I don't know. Dillon Harper as an actress? The VFX artists would have to fix every single shot where her expression or her line of sight where off. You need to be really good and do a lot of research to be an actor that's all they do, research their characters. As a paintball player and junior VFX artist I'm really curious why is there a paintball gun on set? Is it to comp the bullet shots on the glass easier? Anyways amazing, there should be best composition awards. As for the story, that's the storyboard artists, blame them. Everything else looks just PERFECT.
The production design team deserves an Oscar nom, at least.
It's going to be a photo finish between GiTS, GotG 2 and Thor 3 in my opinion.
I doubt GotG 2 will even get nominated. Thor 3 is possible, but my money would go to Wonder Woman, The Last Jedi, and GitS for the blockbusters that are nominated.
yessss 😍
"We did a full body cast of Scarlett"
Another tough day at the office
Based on how fantastic the set pieces, prosthetics, costumes, and special effects look.. it seems that the geeks and nerds who actually grew up with the show ended up in production/design/engineering, whereas the writers and actors don't seem to care.
That would be funny.
I'm sure Weta worked on Avatar as well.
Agreed. I would totally watch this again on mute. (the dialog and story were SO BAD)
It could be studio's fault too. Sometimes greedy producers fucking kill the story!!!
Sci Yeah, with the Arads involved certainly ain't a good thing either!

The movie was, of course, missing a lot of the philosophy in the source material.
This movie copy of anime
Flopped too hard lol
You guys did a great job. Respect to the camera work and the stunning visual effects. Weta Workshops really did a great job!
I just saw this film in 3D on IMAX and it was wonderful in every way. One of the best VFX movies ever, echoing and building on Bladerunner scenarios. Scarlett and all the actors were great.
Ghost In The Shell is an anime-to-live action masterpiece!
But overall, it's an amazing movie, 4 thumbs up (I didn't see alone :) )
this adaption is underrated
now New Zealand will not just be famous for LOTR but also GITS
its so weird to see the streets i walk down full of film crews and futuristic asian stuff
Everyone will have forgotten about this film rather quickly. It's pretty bad.
Glitch Fish People already forgot about this film. It's so sad to see all these great practical and special effects to be wasted and forgotten
I couldn't agree more. The visual effects team were among the best, but it just wasn't enough
Glitch Fish If only the director and writers had put as much care and effort into their role. oh well...
wild ass budget there huh
I agree
I kid you not I have seen the movie twice already and I love it....
As a fan of the original animated movie I can say I was pleased. All i can say is watch it.
This movie blew me away!!! Loved every minute of the movie!
just watched this movie today and i loved it, they did a great job . i new straight away the side of the police station in victoria street and the shooting down victoria street you can see its victoria it was pretty cool awsome job WETA
攻殻機動隊というアニメは大好きで実写版というといい用には取らなかった。
だけどこんなに忠実アニメ内でのシーンをこんなに再現されてると
とても観たくなったし興味も湧いた。
I saw the GitS movie last night, and I personally Loved it! The Multiped Tank blew my mind as it was menacing, and was built to kill cyborgs. I was sceptical at first, however you all pulled it off!
I already liked the movie and this made me appreciate much more!
i have just seen the ghost in the shell live action movie the plot could have started when she was a young girl when the chem attack at birth or very young age having to adapted to be a cyborg from birth . but i like that it was brought to life . more to come
i really like this movie,,, how fantastic of creating in every scene. this is my most favourite movie.
somebody is gonna have fun with that SJ full body foam cast
New Zealand! I actually thought it was shot in Hong Kong... it really resembled the Hong Kong Harbour and they also added the Bank of China building, the one with the white zig zaggy lights.
Just watched it today. Awesome movie!
This was different from the original, but, I liked them both. ScarJo was nice eye candy, for one.
loved the movie, just watched it
the movie is amazing, absolute 10/10
I really2 love this movie, thank you so much..
The scenes are amazing... The original animation version os one of a kind itself then makint its live version must have taken alot of time and effort and money........ Hats off to the whole crue and Scarlett never fails to amaze me

It's so cool that Vitaly Bulgarov worked on this! I've followed him on Instagram for a while, and love his work!
I originally didn't care to see this movie, but now I really want to!
these are the kinds of things the movie's marketing dep. should advertise
It's just amazing!
"I feel like I'm in Hong Kong"
Reads Japanese text on signs.
There are Chinese signs as well. It's an alt take on Hong Kong, just like in the original 1995 version.
Could still be Japanese. Specifically Kanji.
First Power Rangers, now this.
The scar left by Dragon Ball Evolution has been healed.
while this... well... was not.
BraveKei A-
I am gonna watch that movie tomorrow first time. Im gonna buy a huge snack in cinema :D!!!! I am a fan of Ghost In The Shell!!!
just loved the movie!
this movie is awesome!!
Super mega awesome!! Can't wait :) Since I read it in dutch, in the '90ies, was hoping for a real action movie & now it's released on the 29th of March (in Belgium), just 2 days before my birthday... Epic Movie, a real succes visually is amazing, i cant wait for see the movie in 4DX again.
Love Weta's work!
the movie was awesome
This movie was amazing!!!!!
muy buena película... me gusto mucho!!! Good Movie
So cool... the production design was definitely the highest quality aspect of Ghost in the Shell.
I fell in love with this movie
Whoever got to make Scar-Jo's full body cast is one lucky bastard
NZ is simply gorgeous. I could see my family visiting this country in a few years.
I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for making this live action Movie, I enjoyed it very much. Totally go for the Blue Ray! ♥.♥ Ghost in a Shell was a big influence for the anime world, so was this movie for the movie world. Looking forward to see more like this. (like Psycho Pass 4 example :3)

hacia tiempo que no veia una pelicula de este tipo con tanto trabajo manual/artistico
Just saw the movie Friday March 31, 2017 and it is AWESOME. Interesting moral question posed to cybernetics introduced with an action-packed spectacular by Scarlet Johansson. Plenty of Japanese actors and ramifications. COOL ... see it.

is it safe to say that the costumes design, and how the movie looks has potential becoming the next Mad Max: fury road? interms of awards winning.
Very enjoyable film, plenty of action visually stunning. what can I say I'm a fan 👍 nice one
If I hear "Wellington" ONE more time 😂😂😂😂😂 .
... and two mini-series, and one more anime movie (in addition to what you mentioned): the "Arise" productions, which are prequels to the original.
Great mivie!❤
the film with Scarlett is Amazing...but the productors forget the Tachikomas......eveyone see a tachikoma in the film ?
I saw and love the movie.
Visually it was beautiful and impressive but it certainly glossed over all the philosophical questions about identity, memory and fitting in. Whitewashing aside Scarlett was good and WETA's work was phenomenal. Weta you make NZ proud!
ゲームや原作は見たことない、完全な初見でしたが映画面白かったです!
しかし未来の日本?の世界観がすごいなあ(笑)
あちこち芸者まみれ!
At least they used practical effects
Props for Rupert Sanders
Nice production value, still concerned about the story. Interviews give the impression that this is a generic "they stole my identity, I must get it back"-type of story, whereas... *spoiler ahead*
...the 1995 movie is more about the Major trying to figure out whether she is truly human or not after an AI system, Project 2501, claims to be a living entity just like any other human, making everyone question whether it's possible for an AI to really "generate" its own Ghost (i.e. soul), raising questions about what it means to be human, and so on... which is a far more interesting and compelling story than the "My name is Motoko. "the original is too philosophical."
yeah this movie will blow.
Actually, the reviews are average to positive, Rotten Tomatoes says it's generally favourable.
LOVE ITTTTTTTT
brilliant.......
Who cut this video together lol. They mention that they are in New Zealand like 20 times throughout the video its almost like a advertisement for tourism.
Looks like it actually was an advertisement... for other moviemakers.
"Come to NZ, film here."
Saw this on the cinema recently and it's fucking great, 8/10 no complaints
GreenSwede as a live action adaptation it was pretty good
PLEEEAASE be good! Dx
just as well show the film in its entirety . from all these clips its quite possible to make a full feature lenght
very nice movie
Please preserve those body casts of Scarlett,
We might need them in the Future.
I loved the movie it may not follow the same storyline as the 1995 anime but it was still a very compelling show
se ve que tendrá muy buenos efectos
Based on the effort they've put in the overall production, I just might see this movie. The casting choices still concern me, however, and what little bit of the story I managed to glean from the trailer seems too cliché.
Please this movie hindi version uploaded
i give 10/10 ....for this video...
I watched this movie in 3D and I'm a different person now😎xd
0:49 Maya , Zbrush ))
"full body cast of Scarlett..." yes, can I have it?
Hong kong?
Its supposed to be Tokyo!
I love hearing kiwi accents alongside others 😂
3:09 Where I park my car to pick up the Mrs from work.
I don't even know it is been shot in New Zealand. Cool

pembuatan film yg sangatlah rumit

Hong Kong?
Pandering to an overseas market.
I mean it is their baby, but didn't the original film take place in Japan? Am I retarded?
Yes, it was. Considering their ethics on casting, they probably don't consider any difference between HK and Japan. ha
AVTPro Well fuck
did you watch the old movie (1995)?..cuz if you do, you know the answer.
I'm glad they cast Scarlett for the role. She fits it better than Margo Robbie.
id love to work at weta
