- This years marks the end of the Le Mans GTE spec cars.
From 2024 they will be using the current GT3 spec cars instead.
That is in the "FIA WEC", "ELMS" and other "Le Mans" series around the world.
Which is a bit sad because it produced some of the best sounding racecars ever.
In this video I've compiled (almost) all GTE spec cars from 2011 to 2023 racing in Europe.

Sleep well LMGTE, what an incredible legacy you leave behind. I was always drawn more to this class than to GT3 due to (in my opinion) more diverse engine sounds but without question LMGT3 will hold the GT class flag high in WEC.
Hopefully 2024 WEC season not a letdown since there are only 2 race classes this year. LMH and LMGT3.
But in GT3 you also have different engines and therefore lots of different sounds. Starting with the AMG V8 naturally aspirated engine, the turbo V8 from AMR, McLaren V8 and now the Ford V8, the V10 from R8 and Lamborghini, Porsche 6 cylinder boxer engine, BMW inline six cylinder and Honda and Ferrari V6 Turbo. :)
@purwantiallan5089 I don't think that'll be the case. It'll bring the same amount of entries I think, with a simpler and more straight forward setup
It is certainly going to be one of the first things anyone thinks of when we look back at sportscar racing as a whole in the 2010s.
@@tk7107cars in gt3 sound super muffled compared to their gte counterparts though idk why
There's something about the 991.2 RSR sound that differs. The 2018 car has the higher pitched sound, then the 2019 car had the sound of the old 996 GT3 RSR and significantly, the 2020-21 car also had another exhaust setup where instead of a straight pipe it had side exhausts yet it still had the sound of the 2018 car but a bit muted. Thank you GTE for the best of the best sounding cars ever 🥲🥲
I remember the year the GT2/GTE category was created. it was still called N-GT back in the day and it had the nickname of Ferrari VS Porsche category. because that's where they were the most represented
Then they demolished GT1 and Corvette came to the party. AM did some amazing work too.
996s vs 360s, those were the days. H-pattern on the 996 GT3 R/RS, too.
@@theeeMitchi and the 360s were already paddle shift for some
@@togera77 yup, because the originated from the 360 Challenge car that ran the original, stock F1 gearbox. :D Fun fact, in 2000 some of these 360s ran the N-GT category without wing still because of their origin. In 2003 some teams in the ALMS and FIA GT changed to a sequential stick shift though, as Ferrari now offered that and it was just quicker than the automated paddle shift.
2012-2017 Vantage GTE forever, and let's not forget the symphony that was the 458!
Me and Yoshiko Tsushima also gonna miss the sound of the BMW M3 GT2 2011 car.
I basically heard them all in real life, if I must choose it would be :
-991.2 RSR with the center exhaust
-C7R
-458 GT2
Hope the new gt3 cars will continue on this path
C7R is also an iconic car on PROJECT CARS 2.
Seen all of these in person as well. Spot on list. Big Corvette guy but holy crap those RSRs are a sound I’ll never forget.
Also seen them all live. My list is the exact same. Screaming Ferrari's and Porsches and thundering Corvettes, those were the days.
Back in 2018, I would root for the Ford GT like it was the Super Bowl, I loved that car, and it’s still my dream car
Great tribute video to undoubtedly the greatest GT class that will probably ever exist, yes GT3 has the numbers these days but they lack the magic that GTE cars did! Really am going to miss them... 😭
The only great thing about GTE was the Ford.
The rest were just plain GT3 cars. That's why I find it hard to relate with ppl who like this class so much. It's cause I don't understand you.
The end of GT1 on the other hand was the worst thing that ever happened to sports car racing. For me there's no sports car racing without GT1 but I'm glad I have revival racing to help me cope.
@@fyfyi6053the 2016 Ford GT LMGTE still amazing to drive even in 2023 bro
@@fyfyi6053all of the later Porsches, the bmw, and the Corvettes were purpose built gte cars
I’m gonna miss the GTE category, but I’m really excited for GT3 next year. More manufacturers is what WEC needed in the GT category imo. And it’ll probably bring in more brand loyal fans too that haven’t been back to the motorsport in a while
I also gonna miss the 2014 SRT VIPER GTS-R that also ever competed in IMSA 9 years ago.😢
its really sad that we're never going to see the next generations of GTE cars
All here for the RSR
I know that this sounds odd but the overmodulation of the audio in the older videos is awesome. Just so raw and it gives me the chills. Keep up the great work.
LMGTE is the primary reason reason I started watching endurance racing. Watching moddified cars I can identify on the streets going all out battle was super cool.
I love them all. But the 2018 Porsche is insane. Would love to hear it live.
I wish 296 GT3 had the sound of 458
Fairwell LMGTE, you will be missed. You leave an epic history with in are sport. My fave GTE has to be the Porsche 911 through out the years.
I hope someday the new GT2 will be popular again. And of course, the new GT1 championship will start.
Already strong nostalgia for these cars. Great video as always.
Thanks
Thanks for putting this together. Aah Porsche ❤❤
991.2 rsr downshifts are crazy
Corvette C7.R Two Specs
GTE Specs 2014-2015.
C7.R Evo
GTE Specs 2016-2019.
Amazing video thanks
Love the Ferrari 488 GTE EVO and the 458 GTE
Great compilation of music! 😁😉
That's Corvette race car was making hyper tough speed 4:43😮😮😮🚗🌪️⚡
Best racing class ever existed. Farewell.
Even to this day I still hear those 458s and think there's a Porsche coming. They're just so high-pitched XD
It's a shame the 458's reign ended before the era of TH-cam making celebrities out of race cars, because it was arguably the 991.2 RSR's predecessor.
Amazing compilation
Thanks
🔥🔥🔥🔥
No driver assists. full pro.
Corvette C6 ZR1 GT2❤ amazing sound 🔥💪
Wasn't the BMW Z4 V8 also part of GTE? That sounds insane
Yes, but only in the ALMS.
No BMW Z4 GTE?
Great video as always, only the M6 GTE was missed but its apologized
I don't remember of any M6 in GTE, in IMSA GTLM maybe ? In GT3 yes.
The M6 was technically not a GTE car. It was the GT3 version of the M6 converted to race only in the GTLM class in IMSA. Exact same thing happened with Z4 before it.
PS. The GTLM in IMSA used the GTE regulations just IMSA likes to make names of for their own.
❤😂😢😮😅😊 it’s almost like a. IMSA race I can’t wait until it starts in January.
You forgot the BMW M6 GTLM which was technically a GTE but only raced in IMSA GTLM
Small edit, Porsche 911 was not called GT3RSR ever since the 991.1 gen
Another edit, C7R had an Evo spec from 2016
Minor detail about the RSR name, but thanks for the info :)
I only included cars that raced in Europe, because those are the only ones I've filmed.
Bye bye legends💔
👍👍
Will die on the hill that the m8 was too short of a program, they canned it when the car got fast
What track is that with the Aston martin vantage GT2?
edit: first clip of the car
Zolder
BMW M8 gte and Ford GT gte are the best
Why does the RSR at minute 11:30 have a different sound from those at minute 11:40?
Different exhaust.
Sad to see GTE class dissapear forever, now everyone wants to race with GT3 cars.I think GT3 will be too expensive in a future and it can still being active until...205X (?),the cost of being popular. It's a sign, first GT1 and later GT2 (called GTE since 2011)
what’s gonna happen to the RSR? That’s such an amazing sounding car 😭
I'm not sure. I hope someone will keep racing it in a different series.
The 992 GT3 R Rennsport is the spiritual successor imo.
They will resurface in historic racing in the not too distant future.
Goodbye GTE
let's bring GT1 back lol
you forgott the BMW Z4 GTE
I thought they only raced in the ALMS, just like a few other cars that are not in the video.
This video is only about the GTE cars racing in Europe.
@@Belgian-Motorsport in ALMS by RLL and in ELMS by Marc VDS
And 2011 or 2010 there was a Lamborghini Gallardo in GT2 (GTE) saw tah beauty racing in Spa. But don't know if you put the old GT2 racing in Europe too like the 430 GTC
😭😭🤧
This 2019ner RSR it not " GT3 RSR" Its 911 RSR not GT3..
9:18 🤤
Where is the Spyker?
The Spyker's last race was in 2010, when it was called the "GT2" class. So I didn't include it.
@@Belgian-Motorsport I understand. But it did race against the 430’s and 911’s even the vantage gt2 and M3…
bummer
Worst sound Ford GT. Best sound Porsche 991.2 GT3 RSR 17-19 I will miss gte class but I have very nice dreams with the GT3 class.
As a fan of Genjitsu no Yohane Sunshine in the MIRROR, i am so sad to see the iconic race class of LMGTE gonna be removed permanently from FIA WEC competitions.... All those cars are equally amazing since 2012, like Larbre Competitizione 911 GT3R, Porsche 911 GT3 RSR 2018 & 2019, BMW M6 LMGTE, and the 488 LMGTE...
WE WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU, LMGTE! 😭
До чего же убогие современные GT! Где наследники славных Ferrari 550, Saleen S7, Corvette C6 GT1. Что это за пердёж в подушку? Где брутальный рёв настоящих бензиновых монстров? Куда катится мир?!
"What a wretched modern GT!" - yeah, this kinda misses a lot of points into why GTE got the axe in the first place.
"Where is the brutal roar of real gasoline monsters" - uh, there are still some brutes in GT racing (we have the Mustang GT3 for one, there's the AMG GT3, and there's the dinosaur RC F GT3).
