Here's an instructional video on how to paint the faux finish, Brushed Suede. Brushed Suede is a Valspar product and has tiny granules in it, which gives the finish a soft, textured look.
Thank you for the video. I haven't done this technique in 20 years. I watched a half dozen other videos knowing right away they didn't know what they were talking about. Lol I'm doing an 800 square foot ceiling in the kitchen first thing tomorrow morning. Thank you
Awesome! And so ironic. Took on the task of painting my new home this week to find out that 'I am NOT real good at it.' BUT the color that I used is the same color you have here and I will be going to get me some brushed suede in the morning! Thank Dear. And WHEN you said that the 1st coat does not have to perfect I said Thank You Jesus. I think you just saved reputation to my husband that wasn't so sure I could handle the painting!! After yesterday I started to believe it myself. Gr8 video!!
I used the Ralph Lauren Suede paint with the technique mentioned in this video and the result is astonished. Thank you so much for this video. I high recommend to use the Ralph Laurent Suede paint and the technique mentioned in this video. You will no regret.
I am an artist and have worked with the Ralph Lauren suede paint. I was surprised that you rolled on the first coat! I have only done two layers of the suede both hand brushed, as well as only using the one color. A good video for those who have never done it before but you could keep it simple by just using the same color. Still gives a great effect.
Thanks for an EXCELLENT video. Beautiful job! I love the brushed suede look and have wanted to do it in a room for years but didn't know how to do the edges and corners. Like you so accurately pointed out in your video, everyone else does the middle of the wall. No one shows you how to do the edges and corners...until now. THANKS!! I'm definitely passing this video on.
We're doing a smooth metalic faux finish (Sherwin/Will) this week. I like your texture better than the one requested - no place to hide anything with the smooth and I'm not sure how we can fix anything out in the middle. I picked up the micro fiber rollers for it and we've been practicing our random technique with the primer - (ha)
thank you thank you and thank you ,I too found this Vido after I f*** up a job ,you saved me ,your Vido was a step by step how to brush suede paint ,great job brother
So when I decided to do a faux treatment on an accent wall, I of course went to youtube. After 2-3 videos, I come across this one ... and what the?!? It's my old college roommate! What up buddy! It's been 15 years yo!
Wish you could see the detail! But I'm sure it looks great!! Thsnks for posting! I'll try it in my bedroom...then for a client..im thinking in my room a dark grey overlayed with a light grey? Thanks for the knowledge! I'm a drywall master and for the last year I've been asked about painting so heck I picked up a painter (Danny) whose one of the best painters I've seen. Hes given me so much knowledge to the point my work I must say looks spectacular!
This is a great video and will help me in starting my project. One question is, Im using the Valspar Brushed Suede and it instructs you to use the same paint as the base coat but I saw you used a different color. Was this a flat, eggshell, satin finish? And should I use a different paint for base or use the Brused Suede?
Wow!! What an amazing video thank you very much sure wish you had more painting videos you explain things very well! Can you do this satin on a textured wall like a orange peel bumpy texture or just a flat wall? Do you have a website for your painting business? Thanks again have a great week
This video was very helpful thank you. I'm picturing a brown background with green suede or vice versa to give a jungle effect. Do you think that would work?
Thanks for a great video. I'm doing a monochromatic gold metallic glaze over gold paint, looking for a simple metallic wall without a lot of texture. Will this technique work for me? Any suggestions about how to keep a wet edge as the edge grows bigger? thank you!
My walks were painted suede 10 years ago. I need to paint over exiting paint with same color. What do you recommend? Should I use 3 - 5 inch brush and skip rolling with fresh coat of paint?
Hi, We were wondering since our wall has already painted in suede finish. Can we change our existing wall from the flat surface into a eggshell surface ? We do not care for the flat surface. It's not easy to clean the wall . Would this still give us a suede pattern looks ? Also, in your video you did not mention is this necessary to do primer the wall first, before paint the 1st suede coat ? Thank you in advance. By the way, very much like your video .
If the wall is painted with flat paint and has the bumpy thing going on, does that have to be completely sanded prior to apply the brushed suede technique?
The paint company does not suggest painting the wall with a first coat of just regular paint but 2 coats of the suede paint. This wiould save me from paying another $50 since I have a large area. Question: The suede paint has granules in it, so I'm wondering if using regular paint as the first coat is going to look LESS like suede . So before I go out and buy a base coat of a similar color, Please advise
I already have my living room wall painted with a mat color similar to the suede color i purchased. Do i still need a base coat or can i just start with the brush strokes right off the bat?
I can’t see any of the detail. It just looks like a regular brown painted wall.😢… maybe I’ll put this on a bigger screen, but I’m trying to figure out what technique to use if I use a regular paint if it is show something like a lime wash
diamondkeith1, would you please post a video explaining how to do the belagio faux from start. Do I have to use a sponge with that? Also, do I have to mix the slurry belagio paint with a joint compound. I sponged it like that "slurry" the way it comes from the gallon and I don't think I'm fully satisfied. Please give me some advice on how to use the belagio faux. Either you or anyone PLEASE....
I have a wall in the living room that's 6' X 12'. The wall is painted with Ralph Lauren River Rock the color Dry Bed. The effect is too flat for us. This wall is the focal point of the living room, it lacks character. Our walls have a Med. Knock Down texture. Can a brushed suede pattern be applied to a textured wall such as ours? My wife really likes the Polished Patina (R.L.) effect. I've watched the R.L. video of how to apply the Polished Patina and it's done with a plastic spatula. Can this be done on our textured wall? If not, can the polished Patina topcoat be used on top of the River Rock to get that polished look but applied with the suede method?
I loved your video. I am kicking myself that I didn't see it BEFORE I messed up my walls. We painted the walls with the dark brown suede as though it was regular paint. I have to admit that it is HORRIBLE. My questions are, how tho fix the wall and can you use a completely different color on top of the first coat to get a different finish? I was thinking about a greyish purple or green. How the heck can I fix the worst paint job that you have ever seen. The brush strokes are terrible and there are major paint thicknesses with straight lines in the corners etc. (BTW, my boyfriend did the walls) !!! I am actually painting today 10/14/14. I hope that you answer these comments in real time!!!
help, my painter is all finished and I still dont see the faux suede affect?? He used a faux suede product but honestly it looks like a painted room. I have seen the faux suede at a friends house and mine didnt turn out anything like hers. Suggestions?
It is my understanding that most professionals don't backroll, at least it isn't generally done unless it's on a new wall. Can you explain what the advantage is to backrolling esp. in this scenario? Because it doesn't seem like, to me, that it would have any real benefit and would just make it take longer. Here's a video by another professional painter I like to watch for pointers, etc, and his take on backrolling. th-cam.com/video/A5Lcyla2Lb4/w-d-xo.html I look forward to your answer. Thanks! :-)
Random-made, done, happening, or chosen without method or conscious decision. Unpredictable-not predictable; not to be foreseen or foretold Your use of these words is horrendous.
Found this after I nearly screwed up our wall. This is, without a doubt, the most complete and honest faux sued instruction video. Thanks.
Thank you for the video. I haven't done this technique in 20 years. I watched a half dozen other videos knowing right away they didn't know what they were talking about. Lol

Agree but it's hard to find these days.

What impressed me most was the offset roller frame. It makes so much sense. Easier on the back and less spatter.

Love these effects, really inspiring. Love how he just gets on with the job but still explains what he s aiming for. Great job.
ooohhh boy remember my old painting days!!! missing!!! great video
thank you thank you and thank you ,I too found this Vido after I f*** up a job ,you saved me ,your Vido was a step by step how to brush suede paint ,great job brother
This was the most helpful of all the things I have found on this subject!! Thanks!!!
Angela
man U rocked this wall...it looks beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please do more videos! I can't wait to see what Valspar's Brilliant Metallics look like.
This is a wonderful video!! Love it!!

Gorgeous couch
I like that faux Marble you did, do you have a video for that?
I will give it a shot today, thanks! Will post a pic wen I'm done...

excellent tutorial, I'd like to know what to charge for this type of finish
Great video, thank you.
so detailed and helpful! thank you!
Thanks that was an awesome explanation!

Thanks for the video!! Just wish lighting was better
That giraffe 🦒 though.. 👍🏾
that is my house!
Great helpful video! Would this help hide minor imperfections in the wall? I am not great with spackle. :(
just subscribed to your channel was wondering if u can post a how to video of your marble painting columns and inlays techniques.
This video was very helpful thank you. I'm picturing a brown background with green suede or vice versa to give a jungle effect. Do you think that would work?
I'm curious to find out how that looked. Sounds pretty scary to me but with are you never know.
Art* you never know.
Great tips.
Can anyone comment on sourcing for a suede finish paint now? Ralph Lauren and Valspar suede are no longer available, but I love the look!
very nice profesional painter
Thanks for a great video. I'm doing a monochromatic gold metallic glaze over gold paint, looking for a simple metallic wall without a lot of texture. Will this technique work for me? Any suggestions about how to keep a wet edge as the edge grows bigger? thank you!
The absolute key to using this paint is the first coat using a regular paint, similar color to the suede paint.
can you use metallic paint as the top coat and get the same effect?
we have a tan with Rust-Oleum mettalic accent

You mentioned using two different shades, could you please post the name of both that you used?

Do i need a different paint for the base coat? Or should i use the same brushed suede paint?

Can you put lighter on dark paint to get this suede look?

Did you suede paint with slight different color on the 1st coat?

Is there an actual valspar “suede” paint? What makes it different? I want a specific color. Can it be made in any color?
diamondkeith1, would you please post a video explaining how to do the belagio faux from start. Do I have to use a sponge with that? Also, do I have to mix the slurry belagio paint with a joint compound.

Best to get the bird away from the paint fumes, asap!
Did you only do the one coat over the top of the base colour?
Yes

How did it come out?
man you go fast thanx!!
Does anyone sell a brushed suede paint any longer? I see that Valspar has discontinued their Valspar brushed suede paint
I hope you respond. Do you sand paper the wall a little before taping the baseboards or after taping the baseboards?
Wipe the baseboards before taping, apply tape, then lightly sand
And where did you buy the paint
help, my painter is all finished and I still dont see the faux suede affect?? He used a faux suede product but honestly it looks like a painted room. I have seen the faux suede at a friends house and mine didnt turn out anything like hers. Suggestions?
very good!
OMG ! I HAVE THAT SAME COUCH !!!! What'r the Odds ???/ That's Off the HOOK !
i have a question how much time it take to do 200 sq ft faux suede
thank you
How much for a square foot $$$?
So can the base paint be any kind of paint or is that also a suede paint?
I’m wondering this too?
Hi
I wanted to know can you do that suede look in a blue colour.
Keith, It seemed like you virtually repainted the wall covering the base, I don't see much modeling effect with this technique.
docrw seriously im seeing that the X's are so close towards one another and isnt allowing that suede textured look to pop
Why is light the fastest thing in the Universe??
I couldnt see any texture
That's because the camera and lighting were not correct. He's a painter, not a photographer
Ha. Ready to roll.
Hi an u tell how to do a obrae affect with purple
It's great if you can buy brushed suede -.-
b. ?
he doesn't backroll his base coats? lol very "Professional"

I look forward to your answer. Thanks! :-)
+Terri Koonce-Tom Your right, dvg doesn't know what he's taking about, you don't do that for this type of painting.
Back rolling is involved with spraying? Not regular rolling.
Random-made, done, happening, or chosen without method or conscious decision.
Unpredictable-not predictable; not to be foreseen or foretold
Your use of these words is horrendous.
Vocabulary police!
Valspar is a horrible paint. I would rather sick with Behr or Benjamin moore.
...you went to college ...yikes
What is that supposed to mean???
Thank you. Great video
Is there an actual valspar “suede” paint? What makes it different? I want a specific color. Can I get it made in any color?
Debbie Whitman yes but not sure if they still make it.Check out Lowe’s. I just found out that Valspar discontinued the Brushed Pearl.
