    Saw you on TH-cam channel: "Over the Fence" who shared your personal home's yard. WOW! IMPRESSIVE! You made me think about limbing up shrubs to create shade giving ng small trees. VERY CLEVER AND INSPIRING. Moved from New England zone 7, to North Carolina zone "impossible dry and hot, but garden in humidity"= horrible and moved to PNW on Puget Sound. But it's a hot spell and I need shade. So I got to make some! Inspired by your garden and ideas.

    You do a great job in covering different subjects. Personally I like a lot of plant combos. I love your garden but most plants are for shade. Can you cover plant combos for full sun please. Thank you!

    I loved this! I'd like to see more specifics of your garden (or client gardens) and how you design a garden. How do you go from a patch of dirt to visualizing what could be? Especially with bigger projects. I'm stymied by the whole thing, but I always love seeing the end result.

    A much needed video! I would love a topic/video on edible plants that grow well here in PNW and are visually attractive!

      Good idea, I'll think about doing that. For the moment, I'll say this: BLUEBERRIES! :-) They are great multi-season shrubs -- spring flowers, summer berries, fall color, and oftentimes colorful stems in winter.

      You bet! I've been very happy with it. It *is* getting pretty large for me which can become an issue since my space is so tight. I have learned that it seems to bloom on new wood so I've been able to prune it without sacrificing blooms.

    Surprised no native shrubs made the list, especially with how much they can support our native butterflies, bees and birds.

    Like many others I'm interested in design for NW gardens where we often have to plant around large Douglas firs or fight back the native plants. I'd like to blend native plants with flowering srubs, perennials and annuals.

    THANK YOU so much for your fabulous video! I would love to see how you plan for different types of gardens. Shade, sunny, partial shade as well as year round interest. I seem to have all 3 around my house currently and in addition it seems like everything dies in the winter and my garden and yard is bare and only comes to life again in the spring so I am really interested in learning about shrubs and plants that will continue to add beauty to my yard in the winter.

    This video is exactly what I want to see! I love seeing the shrub and perennial in a garden setting. I want to see what they look like once they have matured a bit, rather than -as you said, in a gallon pot. I also want to see the legs of the plant and if you could tell us what time of year you are showing (bloom times). I loved seeing peaks of the other perennials in your garden and can't wait to see more. I appreciated you telling us some alternatives to the shrubs you were showing us. Also, thank you for telling us the sun exposure. I am so glad to have found your video! I am currently looking for plants to add to my homes existing mature landscape here in the Portland area. I look forward to more of your videos.

    I gotta say, I'm a native plants guy through and through.
    Edit: this is a gentle criticism of the practice of planting exotic, and sometimes invasive, species that don't support local ecology just because they're pretty. There are beautiful natives that deserve your love just the same and attract beautiful pollinators and wildlife. 🥺

    Always enjoy seeing how your plants are doing in your garden. I am in Washougal, WA and interested in planting a hedge of various medium height evergreen plants in part to full sun location. I would be interested in hearing what plants you would recommend. Thank you!

    Hi! Thanks so much for sharing! We may move to the states in coming months and thinking about Oregon, lake Oswego area. As you ask I’d love to understand a bit more of the climate, soil PH, and different types of gardens that can thrive there. Like for example what grows well under conifers or how to create a more tropical look garden with plants for that area. I think that some of the ones you shared could look awesome with some flower annuals and perennials creating maybe a sort of tropical looking mix, etc. thanks again and hope my comment is relevant for your question even if it’s 1 year later 😅😅🙏

    • @eGardenGo

      Hello there and thanks for your comment...I'll keep your requests in mind. 👍 As you prepare for your move by learning about gardening in the PNW, you might include my website (www.egardengo.com) in your research. I focus on helping gardeners be more successful in creating plant combinations that are culturally compatible *and* look great together. To get your creative juices flowing make sure you explore my "Garden Tours" playlist to see what's possible in our area. Enjoy!

      Yes, they were custom and one of a kind-fabricated by Keith Yurdana in 2006 or so, and no idea where he is nowadays. 🤷‍♀️

    Interested in your trees, maples? Also how did you find your cool plants like the hardy schefflera and camo fatsia japonica and calycanthus? Love the mirror frame. Hardscaping ideas and more suggestions like these please. Awesome.

    • @eGardenGo
      @eGardenGo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure which trees you're asking about-I do have some maples, so you could be seeing those. Also Stewartia (multiple species), crape myrtle, magnolia, Cotinus, Loquat, Azara and more that I'm likely forgetting at the moment. Re: finding a source for the schefflera, fatsia, and calycanthus-depends on where you're located. They've become relatively easy to find in the Portland area. I'd recommend calling around to the local independent garden centers in your area. In Portland area I'd recommend trying Portland Nursery, Cornell Farm, Blooming Junction, Al's .... etc. Good luck and have fun on the hunt! 😉

    I would love to know of a short shrub that I can plant outside my front door. I am in zone 8 also. I need something that is not harmful to pets. I have three boxwood and I love them, just need something different. I am replacing a rhododendron. Thanks so much for your help.... Love your garden. I would love to see more!

    • @eGardenGo
      @eGardenGo  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hard say, sight unseen. You don't mention exposure (sun/shade), so that's something you'll need to consider. A compact variety of oakleaf hydrangea might be nice (www.egardengo.com/plant/hydrangea-quercifolia-munchkin). It's large foliage would pair nicely with the finely-textured evergreen boxwood.
