But he’s also one of the greatest coaches in basketball history. Besides the 2 NCAA Titles and 4 Final Four appearances, he’s won 17 or 18 Big 12 conference championships, including 14 in a row (an NCAA record). Even at Illinois for 3 years, Self won 2 Big Ten regular season championships. I could go through every season that Self has been the Head Coach at Kansas and show that EVERY season at Kansas except for maybe 2 or 3 seasons in 22 years, Kansas has been a legitimate national championship contender. Can’t believe they ejected Dickinson. KU stacked this year, took best player out halfway and they still won against a ranked Duke team on neutral court!
I hate both teams, but Duke got completely f'd by the refs in the second half. Whoever the ref was on the Duke baseline in the second half probably just got a million NIL dollars from Kansas. Absolutely terrible.
Watch the replay. Dickinson comes with high elbow on the shot. He gets fouled because he went over the back on the rebound. High elbow, then over the back. Refs see the replay and eject him for kicking his face because any neutral observer can see Dickinson was overly aggressive and reckless from the high elbow to the kick in the face. Hope he misses more games for it. Complete trash player.

Tough first half for Flagg but he turned it on in the 2nd half. Hopefully he learns that he can’t spin in the paint on iso plays where the other defenders can just watch and wait for the spin. He needs to make decisive straight line drives in those situations. Kon had a really rough shooting game but he is smart enough as a player to not rely solely on the 3 and he mixes in some good drives and work inside. That last play was a bad turnover but coach could have drawn up a better play where Tyreese and Flagg weren’t just standing and watching and Maluach didn’t just drag his defender right under the basket after setting the down screen for Kon. If the play is for a drive with kick out options you have to clear the lane for him and the outside guys have to slide to open spots as kon is driving. Have Maluach set that DS for kon and then head to the opposite corner to set a screen for Sion. It’ll keep the big man out of the paint and makes them have to guard some sort of off ball action. The way that play was run the only guy who had to defend anyone was Adams (their best defender) on kon’s drive. The wing defenders didn’t even have to move and Budinga was sitting there at the rim waiting. I’ve been a big Scheyer supporter, but maybe he’s a better recruiter than in game strategist.

He was a high school player a few months ago. The 17 year old kid went 26 and 12 against Kentucky. He's already good enough to be in the NBA, and will be the #1 pick in the next draft.
Flagg is completely hyped up and overrated, and we all know why. He takes way too many shots and folds in clutch moments, trying to play hero ball and turning it over. He's almost averging more turnovers then assists
@@lorieanngrier a 6th year senior PG versus a 17 year old freshman...his 'hero' ball is just a maturity in his game. One or two more years and he would make Harris look like a fool.
ESPN is the problem. I don't fault Flagg. ESPN acts like every routine play Flagg does is so amazingly skilled, and he's the second coming of Larry Bird. There are so many more skilled and athletic plays that occur in televised Duke games that do not get any coverage whatsoever, including plays made by Flagg's own teammates. Kentucky pulls off a major upset by knocking off Duke in the Champions Classic and the first thing Kentucky fans have to look at on ESPN after the game is a huge graphic of Cooper Flagg. It was obvious that they gave Kentucky 0% chance of winning that game, and had all their postgame graphics and coverage already planned out. Kansas knocks off Duke after their best, or one of their best players, gets ejected from the game and the thumbnail for this video is of Cooper Flagg looking victorious. ESPN, if you insist on making everything about Cooper, at least make the thumbnail a picture of Flagg spinning and getting stripped of the ball, which did happen again during crunch time, and would be a better representation of what happened during the game. I did not watch the postgame, but I bet it was more of the same: fawning over Cooper.
They hyping anyone now especially americans cause they're desperate for another lebron knowing that these past drafts have been dominated by euro dudes😂
Flagg looks like he could be a great number two option on a championship team or a special third option cause he’s also high energy and will do the dirty with number ones won’t do. Gotta get him with a big time scorer.
He loses the ball everytime late in the clutch 10:13 he’s not an iso player cut middy he needs to work on his spot up 3..and Jon only looks good against lesser talent..no disrespect to these young men just a bball assessment
@cauehsimeus7520, You mean halfway down the lane like any fit 6'9 forward with a nearly 7' wingspan should be able to do, and still barely dunks it?! Wow, make him The Logo right now.
Just a learning experience for Flagg, great player Anybody who actually played sports, know its a process. He'll look different 20 games in, the game will slow down. at 17 years old, this kid is phenomenal. Hopefully games like this don't hurt his confidence.
If we are talking solely about on-court success, the GOAT program would be either North Carolina or Kentucky. But if we throw in off-court intangibles, you can make the case for Kansas. In 2011, “The Atlantic” magazine stated, “In the history of American sports, no program or franchise in either college or professional sports has had as much impact or influence on a sport as the University of Kansas’s impact on the sport of basketball. Not even the New York Yankees influence on baseball has been as significant as Kansas’s impact and influence on the sport of basketball.” But before that, in November of 1996, USA Today, in an article titled, “A Tradition Second to None” stated that they believed that if you combine on-court success with intangibles, then Kansas is the greatest program of all-time. It starts with James Naismith’s founding of the Kansas basketball program in 1898. Naismith founded only one program….the University of Kansas. Naismith was Head Coach for 9 seasons before turning it over to Phog Allen. In total, Naismith spent 41 years at the University of Kansas. Naismith is buried in Lawrence, Kansas. Phog Allen played basketball at KU for Naismith. When Allen told Naismith he wanted to coach basketball, Naismith replied, “Forrest, you can’t coach basketball (what was Naismith doing), you just play it.” That’s funny. But Forrest “Phog” Allen explained how you can indeed coach basketball. Later Naismith gave Phog Allen the title of “The Father of Basketball Coaching”. Phog Allen is the man who marketed basketball like no other. Phog really popularized basketball. Phog Allen founded the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). As its President, Phog and the NABC created the NCAA Tournament in 1939. But before that, Phog Allen was nearly solely got basketball to be an Olympic sport starting at the 1936 Berlin Games. Phog even collected donations in order to pay for James Naismith’s trip to Berlin to watch the games! Then there’s the Phog Allen Coaching Tree. Both Dean Smith and A. Rupp played for Phog Allen at Kansas. Those two men graduated from the University of Kansas. Those 2 Jayhawks then took their talents to North Carolina and Kentucky and built 2 of the greatest basketball programs of all-time. Of course those two men grew more branches of this historical coaching tree. Then there’s WILT CHAMBERLAIN. Phog Allen recruited Wilt Chamberlain to Kansas. If he’s not the GOAT, he’s definitely the most dominating player of all-time. As Wilt liked to point out, basketball RULES were changed in order to make it harder for him to score. Furthermore, Kansas has the most consensus First Team All-Americans as any program in history. Also, the University of Kansas has the most people in the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame. So it can be said that a Jayhawk invented the sport, and a Jayhawk created the NCAA Tournament. And two Jayhawks built national powers at North Carolina and Kentucky. In 1924 Phog Allen published a book called, “My Basket-ball Bible”. It was 400+ pages long and it describes how to play the games, strategies to win, and how to treat injuries. Allen was a doctor as well as coach. I have a signed copy with the original dust jacket.
🔥 What an incredible game! Both teams left it all on the court, but the intensity and skill on display were next-level. Huge respect to the Jayhawks and Blue Devils for such a thrilling matchup! 🏀👏 #CollegeBasketball
DUKE has a problem, the sum is never equal to its parts. They play like a summer all-star squad, not a TEAM. So few assists, real assists, not those desperate throw it out to the "3" after your move fails assists.
The flagrant 2 was supposed to be the game ... big ups to Kansas for playing them tuff. BTW: How was Dickenson supposed to know the guys face is there ... I guess he was supposed to hold position 2 of leg raises till he decides to move? That should have been a flagrant 1.
On the ejection play, before that even got going, how was that not an offensive foul when Dickison elbowed the defender in the face as he backed in towards the basket?
As a life long Duke fan can we please stop leaving the ball in the hands of freshmen in crunch time. Put ball in Proctor or Foster hand and let them create an easier shot for the prolific freshmen. Two major losses due to this.
I actually like the circus font way more than the font we used for the last 16 or 17 years. I think the circus font stands out better, and I think it’s a bit larger. We’ve used the circus font many times in the past. This is the same font that the Kansas Final Four teams used in 2002 and 2003. Same size too. The 1991 Kansas team that played Duke in the National Championship Game also wore the circus font, but it was even larger than now. The 1988 National Championship team used the large circus font. I think the size we use now is perfect. I hope we stay with this for many years.
I like the font we had been using better than the circus font. It gives off a look of prestige and class. But the circus font looks cool. I just hope it's temporary
DUKE is not stacked enough to afford to give EVANS and HARRIS “NO” minutes is crazy. This game is a prime example. Honestly I don’t see duke winning anything with a coach that can’t adapt. Having a shooter on a bench and not playing him when your starters struggling from the arc is wild.
Evans can't guard and rebound like Kon. Also Kon was basically running PG and making big plays for a stretch in the 2nd half. Evans and Harris need to be more than catch and shoot players if they want to get minutes.
@tristanwright9572 you won’t know if they improve and show they’re capable if they not playing. It’s too much investing on Flagg progression instead of the team.
I don't like Cooper Flagg. But it's clear his team likes him less. When they see him open, they instantly look him off for a different option. Flagg works best when he's involved in every play. Duke is beating themselves by not involving him more. It's like they're mad Duke took him and they're eager to prove the team is good without him. They are, but they're blowing up plays to avoid him.
Been watching Dickerson for 3(?) years now, I thought he would mature and get some humility and change his thuggish ways, but it doesn't seem so. He's got a deep seated mean streak in him and needs Jesus.

That PG on Kansas looks way better than Cooper. Dude turned the lightning speed jets on him and left him looking like a new my player on rec 😂
@@sthomp41exactly lol these guys are judging a teenager going up against grown men lmao
@@lorieanngrier LOL. You know Flagg is 17 years old, right?
6'9 guys can't defend p.g unless your wiggins or lebron.
Great basketball game between two great clubs
Media overhyping a future NBA Role player who will just get drafted highly is crazy to me
ESPN is the problem.
A 17-year-old with his stats at a major college is not an NBA role-play in the future whether you wish for it or not
@@mpicewe3023definitely a future role player 😂 Flagg will not be a superstar, but he does play hard though so he’ll be fine in the NBA
@@Imightslapyou Imagine assuming a 17 year old isn't going to develop any further as a player.
Flagg looks like he could be a great number two option on a championship team or a special third option cause he’s also high energy and will do the dirty with number ones won’t do. Gotta get him with a big time scorer.
I agree but hes not 1st pick worthy hes got no 3 ball in college so unless he can really work on that hes not gonna have a 3 ball in the NBA
This game is worthy of a finals …. worth the price of admission
They should of arrested Copper Flagg for what he did to Budunga!! 😳
Yeah, that's right 👍
He loses the ball everytime late in the clutch 10:13 he’s not an iso player cut middy he needs to work on his spot up 3..and Jon only looks good against lesser talent..no disrespect to these young men just a bball assessment
Maybe I’m wrong, but I said before the season this Duke team would lose eight or nine games and get put out in the sweet 16 by a mid major school
I can see that happening. However, l think sweet 16 might be a bit of a stretch at this point..
What a game
What a game 🔥
Cooper may still be finding himself in college but one thing is for certain that boy is dummy athletic 8:00 look where he took off from! 😮
Cooper..Turnover.. RCJH! Great game though for November!
Hard to see Duke lose this one
Flagg handle
If we are talking solely about on-court success, the GOAT program would be either North Carolina or Kentucky. But if we throw in off-court intangibles, you can make the case for Kansas. In 2011, “The Atlantic” magazine stated, “In the history of American sports, no program or franchise in either college or professional sports has had as much impact or influence on a sport as the University of Kansas’s impact on the sport of basketball. Not even the New York Yankees influence on baseball has been as significant as Kansas’s impact and influence on the sport of basketball.”
But before that, in November of 1996, USA Today, in an article titled, “A Tradition Second to None” stated that they believed that if you combine on-court success with intangibles, then Kansas is the greatest program of all-time.
To still get it done without Dickinson at the end there... Jayhawks are definitely a force with depth this year. Amazing game
There is not a scenario where cooper flagg does not take the last shot
March Madness energy
That dunk was insane by Flagg.
Officials ejected Dickinson and we still won ❤ 💙
Ejected himself mate. Maybe don't kick people in the face? I dunno, seems like sure fire way to NOT get ejected.
@ should’ve been a F1, not anywhere NEAR a F2
🔥 What an incredible game! Both teams left it all on the court, but the intensity and skill on display were next-level. Huge respect to the Jayhawks and Blue Devils for such a thrilling matchup! 🏀👏 #CollegeBasketball
Flagg is not a #1 pick he’s good but not #1
he's 17. Relax
what nba organization do you scout for?
Yes, all because of one game.
He's not even old enough to vote, better than any prospect in the 2024 draft
He's by far the best prospect in the draft and only 17. He'll be fine
These commentators be all for Duke and they're not the #1 ranked team in the nation. That's us Rock Chalk
Did they just talk about Cooper Flagg the whole time when they went back to the studio?
adams jr, great defender
Coby White And Ayo The Goat Dosunmu Say Hello To Your Future Chicago Bull Cooper Flagg
I did not realize it was already March! Wow!
DUKE has a problem, the sum is never equal to its parts. They play like a summer all-star squad, not a TEAM. So few assists, real assists, not those desperate throw it out to the "3" after your move fails assists.
you know basketball. the talent is there. the coaching needs improvement.
Hopefully, we are in rank after this loss. A close game of bs. Tired of it.
The 3 pointer opens up the NBA and college basketball to non athletes.
The officials couldn't even save Duke. That shoe thing was unintelligent, but didn't matter. GO KU Bball!!!
The flagrant 2 was supposed to be the game ... big ups to Kansas for playing them tuff. BTW: How was Dickenson supposed to know the guys face is there ... I guess he was supposed to hold position 2 of leg raises till he decides to move? That should have been a flagrant 1.
every team thats gonna win against my Blue Devils this season are blessed, that we don't have interior Defense 💯
Can't wait till Flagg and Knueppel are seniors. Duke will be unstoppable.
Neither will play that long
Flagg is gone after this year bro lmao
I’m guessing this post was satire
😂🤣😂🤣😂….wait that was supposed to be a joke correct?
Flagg will be the highest Duke all tyme scorer make my words 💵
On the ejection play, before that even got going, how was that not an offensive foul when Dickison elbowed the defender in the face as he backed in towards the basket?
As a life long Duke fan can we please stop leaving the ball in the hands of freshmen in crunch time. Put ball in Proctor or Foster hand and let them create an easier shot for the prolific freshmen. Two major losses due to this.
Kansas brought back the circus font!! 😮
They gone have to get Flagg someone to help him with his low post moves
DUKE is not stacked enough to afford to give EVANS and HARRIS “NO” minutes is crazy. This game is a prime example. Honestly I don’t see duke winning anything with a coach that can’t adapt. Having a shooter on a bench and not playing him when your starters struggling from the arc is wild.
right?! its actually starting to irk me
Evans can't guard and rebound like Kon.
Amazing game 😮
What a game !! March madness already lol
If Kansas had lost could have straight blamed Hunter for that bone head flagrant bro was such a valuable asset during the game.
Commentary calling him nipple crazy work!
Y'all sure it's November? Man it feels like March.
Chalk..
KU has a better Resume b4 Dec1st than 87% of teams across Country will have on Selection Sunday
Big Africa is not ready he leave now he will end up in g league he’s too raw
The fact him and Knueppel are projected lottery picks tell you everything you need to know about the state of college 🏀.
They got to get him involved more.....The kid is 19 ... he has all the tools to succeed...
Flagg To The Chicago Bulls
Kansas got every call in the book
Flagg had kneppel wide open on that last fast break idk why he didn’t pass it
Duke had every chance to beat us once our best player and center got ejected and still lost. They’re just young and KU is seasoned.
it's not no.7's fault in the second last play. No. 14 shouldn't have cut to the basket and brought the defenders inside the paint
Now tell me how Duke doesn't get all the calls. Horrible. I've never seen them throw a player out like that
Been watching Dickerson for 3(?) years now, I thought he would mature and get some humility and change his thuggish ways, but it doesn't seem so. He's got a deep seated mean streak in him and needs Jesus.
4:10 when you drank all the supplied bottles for the week in one night and you have a game
8:43 I thought chin ups on the rim were an automatc technical. I guess not for Cooper Flopp
Cooper Flagg In Your Face Dunk Just Like Scottie Pippin In Your Face Dunk Patrick Ewing 1994 In Chicago Stadium
