Nothing wrong with trying to tick some boxes but they are ticking those boxes in a rather unappealing way. A fat character can still look cool and badass, it doesn't have to look like... whatever that is.

Pronouns aside, the design of the characters is simply too bland. Bucket, furry, gunslinger, and a chick with angled boots and shoulder pads are the ones that are at least memorable. The rest could just as well not be in the game.

Designs lacking charisma, with ridiculous colors, and with which no one in their right mind would identify, let alone be interested in using. Of all of them, maybe only Haymar is saved, but other than that, none are even aesthetically passable.

People are taking this game so deadly and politically seriously, I truly don't understand what has happened to people brains. It's just a game guys, where you shoot at each other, leave the culture wars at the door. these are all fun cyberpunk designs, and the weapon and ability spreads sound pretty interesting and different than other hero shooter characters. There are some common trope abilities but the way everyone is put together at least is unique. I don't see any copy pastes like a "literally just Tracer' or "literally just Demoman" characters.
Personally, I think my main gripe is that Playstation is spending their time and money on stuff like this. Yeah, some aspects may seem original, but I believe a great part of the contents of this game feels like something I've seen before. Even if trying to ignore my "political opinion" and the whole culture wars thing (even if I try to stay neutral, I believe I'll throw some bias into discussing this game), it just feels bland for me. It feels like it's a game that is trying to occupy a spot already occupied by one (or even multiple) game(s). If it was, let's say, free to play, maybe I'd be more forgiving, but paying 40 bucks for a game that seems way too much like stuff already tried and done before it's a no no for me (also idk if it requires plus or nah). If I include the "politics analysis" one could do on this game to shape my opinion, I feel like it amplifies what I said before. Personally, I don't want to play as "Diverse and original character with a quirky design and innecessary lore n°83747383837", I'd much rather play as a nameless grunt but that's just me. Anyway, I just hope Playstation tried to Kickstart new offline/singleplayer/story game franchises or even revive some old ones instead of funding "live service hero shooter n°10", I think the ps5 is really lacking (for now) games that make you think "the console worth buying/remembering for this tittle alone".
