Thank you for joining us on this crazy journey! Our family- Kate and Marius plus our four kids, have always enjoyed living a homemade life whenever possible. Moving 1000miles north in 2017 to Northern BC, Canada upped our game even more. We live on a 34 acre homestead and get a kick out of things like raising our own meat, dairy and vegetables. Theres plenty of failures, you’ll be sure to see those here too. We’re a homeschooling family who believes life is the best teacher but we do hit the books in winter. You can find lots of real life confessions, recipes, how to’s and “The Schat Show”. Family health, natural health, cooking, natural food, whole food, recipes, parenting, kids, children, babies, faith, family life, work life balance, survival, wildcraft, keeping a family milk cow, home dairy, chickens, eggs, meat chickens, raising meat, raising pigs, fencing, dogs, cats, garden, gardening, winter gardening, short season gardening, northern living, life in winter, outdoor adventure, nature study, plant identification, rural living, food preparation, heating with wood, firewood, child training, homeschooling are all topics you will find here

My curly hair hates being brushed too. I only wash once a week. Seeing your cows just makes my wants of cows so much more.

Our first dairy cow just calved this morning. We just got her in the stanchion and milked her for the first time. We are a hot mess, but managed to get 2 gallons of colostrum. Hoping it gets MUCH smoother over time!!

2 gallons is a lot of collostrum! Did you give her a calcium booster either oral or shot for milk fever prevention? Mossy was a hot mess for the first 4-5 days and i milked onto the ground just to empty her more than once.

@@VenisonforDinner We did give her the oral supplement. She is just not broke to the stanchion or milking, so lots of kicking. Lots of poop. Lots of kicking poop!☹

How do you keep the flies away from your cheese? I almost always have fruit flies in my kitchen.

U need to get some kind of machine to milk the cows otherwise u will injury ur hand.

I have no problems milking by hand. I'd rather not use the cleaners etc needed to clean a machine milker for just one cow.
