    First it's crazy that a commercial radio station and an aviation communication channel would share the same frequency. Then it's insane to fly VFR when they couldn't see anything. Unbelievable recklessness. I would rather be late than dead.

    Having flown into both Pokhara and Lukla airports, I can confirm that they're absolutely terrifying. Lukla was the worst flying experience of my life...I kissed the ground when I got off the plane. Also, I've heard really bad things about both Tara and Yeti airlines within Nepal, so much so that our sherpa who bought our flight tickets on both occasions refused to put us with either of those airlines.
    My heart breaks for the people impacted by this horrific accident, it should never have happened.

    The worst air flight disaster I've seen covered was the case of the pilot who let his kids "fly" the plane. Aeroflot Flight 593.

    • @nadinekeating3255
      @nadinekeating3255 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Oh, I seen a video on that accident. Having a pilot not only allowing his children into the cockpit, but to actually allow them to sit in the pilot seat and fly the plane was so insane. It was so frustrating that the co-pilot didn't say anything to the pilot about what he was letting his kids do. I can understand not wanting to "question" the actions of someone who's been in the career longer, had more experience, etc... But that was a situation where this pilot is now playing games with not only your life, but those of all the passengers, and crew. He definitely should have protested what the pilot was doing (especially at the point where he was letting them sit in his seat).

      Another crazy one is Aeroflot Flight 6502. The captain told the cabin crew that he had landed the runway so many times that he could do it blind. So the crew bet him that he couldn't. Well, he took the bet and told them to shut the blinds on the windows and attempted a landing.

    • @gnarthdarkanen7464
      @gnarthdarkanen7464 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Mountains are treacherous all over for aircraft. Winds curl over the tops, and rush right down the lee-ward slopes, so if you get caught in that, it's going to smash you straight down into the ground... Partial Pressure Zones exist, where the air settles into little bowl-shapes at high altitudes, so you take off as easily as if you were at sea level, but around 100 feet or so off the ground, the dense air goes right away, and your engine starts to sputter, wings LOSE LIFT, and you've got a LOT of "catching up" to do... all at once... Then we get into the usual mundane stuff, like clouds and snowy mountaintops looking EXACTLY the same... Glare from ice blinding you at certain angles, making EVERYTHING more difficult in general... Storm fronts spawning out of thermal updrafts, so you're cruising along on a perfectly clear day, and suddenly nose-first into the worst torrential downpour you've ever seen in about 10 seconds... and so on... and so forth... etc...
      As a pilot, you've got to be EXTRA careful and vigilant about the mountains. As a passenger, you might consider just buying a mule (all things considered) or just the ritual of putting your head between your legs to kiss your *ss good-bye... In some places, nobody makes sure the pilots actually know all the ins and outs of flying through mountainous regions. ;o)

    • @chrimony
      @chrimony ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think it had anything to do with qualifications. The captain was quite experienced. I think his experience probably was the undoing of him, as he was overconfident and complacent, and took a risk in bad weather.
      The reason they went lower was to try and keep visual contact with the ground, as they were under visual flight rules. And the captain ignored warnings because apparently they happened spuriously before. The real puzzle is why they were in visual flight rules when the weather was bad, but apparently it was borderline and seemed good enough. Anyways, a tragedy.

      @@Romario3000 I'm glad you were able to watch the entire video. However, when you come across people talking about an accessibility issue that affects them but not you, please keep in mind that it's not polite to step in and talk about how you don't have a problem with it and/or explain why the problem is a legitimate design choice.

    Flying in bad weather using VFR and not instruments? That’s suicide. That’s what happened to JFK, Jr. and his wife and sister-in-law. He flew his plane in bad visibility and didn’t know how to use the instruments, and they all died.😢

    The pull-up warning playing in the background adds nothing except annoyance for the purposes of telling this story.

    This is avery good and well researched video. My only worry is for you trying to speak in that very low and sinister voice, I tried it myself and after a very few sentences I got a bad , sore throat. Please take the advice of someone who has been there- speak in your normal voice ( the one you use for normal shopping tours) and play some morbid music in the background, that should be enough to scare the sh*t out of your naive and god fearing listeners.

    I’m not a pilot, but I’m pretty sure slow moving prop planes can use GPS right? Like how the fuck do you hit a mountain in 2016 with a GPS? I’ve been on some wild flights in bush planes but that’s just a different prospect than a commercial flight.
