What is done is he removes one hydrogen each from ch3 and oh. Total removing two hydrogens. We are now making the two hydrogens react with the extra oxygen as oxidation is addition of oxygen and removal of hydrogen. Thus now these combine together and are separated leaving us behind with ch20
