I live in Tega Cay! It’s beautiful and yes -it’s beautiful. I’m from Virginia and loved it there also. I lived there until I was 40 moved here seven years ago.
Anyone know what the household income range to live there comfortably? I'm a single income and live comfortably at where I am but looking to get away from the cold abd high property tax.
I notice when you mentioned Tega, Fort Mills. You talked about the economy and so much to do but fail to mention why(Charlotte/Mecklenburg). Summerville SC is one of the best places to live in the state. And Mauldin SC is a up there too.
Summerville is seriously overcrowded now because of all the people that have moved here in the last 10-20 years. Bumper to bumper traffic from one end to the other every morning and evening six days a week. There is no state car inspection here so the smell of pollution is always in the air in the colder months. Noise pollution is also rampant. Boston is quieter than Summerville, LOL! I've lived here all my life and development is slowly strangling this area to death. Also you're looking at $250-300K minimum for a house that's barely out of the slums. Move to the upstate, the Lowcountry is overcrowded and over rated.
i dunno bout that cheif summerville is overpriced, trafficky and theres nothing to do. summerville was always only good because its "close" to downtown, but goose creek is closer and cheaper

This is a horrible list lol. Lived here 35 years. Columbia is the worst, Charleston is the best, Greenville and Rock Hill are nice. Greenwood is the best small town. Everywhere else is rural.
We have visited Lexington/Chapin/Irmo/Columbia area 3 times since 2020. We're coming from Jersey. We instantly fell in love with the place and the people, and the schools (in northern Lexington to be exact) don't seem too bad. Columbia did seem a little weird and dingy but no more weird and dingy than the big cities up here. Thinking about USC for my 14 year old to attend. I'm heading down there this April during spring break to see if I can make an offer on a home. I'm not looking to move to an area where there are people from NY/NJ area, that's what we're trying to get away from. NJ is a shit hole, plain and simple and anyone that tells you otherwise hasn't been here long enough. For comparison, I felt extremely safe walking in Columbia and West Columbia, I guess locals down there have a very different opinion of what a bad city looks like 😆.

Your info is outdated. I live in Lexington, houses are much more than you mentioned. Rent is impossible to find, not to mention for $1,000. Traffic became a nightmare cuz of influx and lack of infrastructure. As soon as a new school is built, it’s already busting at its seams. Traffic accidents are everyday reality. And not to mention a CRAZY HOT weather 6 months a year… Yeah, welcome to Lexington!
I mean crazy hot 8 months out of the year describes pretty much the entire state. So cant really use that as a comparison for SC towns. Traffic also describes any town in SC that has more than a few thousand people in it. Except columbia where for some reason the traffic isnt that bad downtown just the highways
The people who think about living in SC from outside are mostly looking at the coast tbh. Charleston, HII, Dirty Myrtle..yes it's dirty...etc Also sounds like your data might be from the 00s and not up-to-date. Yeah 190k won't get you much. And best of luck finding a rental in LEX for 1k that's worth it.
190k is like medium house on the columbia outskirts sort of price. might be accurate for the really out of the way parts of lexington definitely nothing near downtown tho.

@@nanothestrange our house in Chicago cost 3 times as much for what I bought a bigger house in Lexington and saved hundreds of thousands of dollars. They are moving the middle school to a different location that will alleviate a lot of the traffic on 378 going into town. I like it, it’s 2 hours to charlotte, 1 1/2 hours to Charleston and 3 hours to Atlanta Wouldn’t want to live in Columbia prices on houses are double of Lexington and they are old houses. We could not find a new home in Columbia in the area we wanted.

Mt. Pleasant median home value/cost is WAY MORE. Good luck finding anything halfway decent under $650,000...or anything at all under $1 million

Forest acres is not even a town. It is a suburb. Tega Cay is not a town to me it go to the Fort Mill School District. A Fort Mill suburb.
