Hey there r disalvo! My name is Max Acree, my dad Scott Acree was a trombonist on the Blue Wisp Big Band from 84-93. Was wondering if you had any recordings with him? He was on the Rolling with Von Ohlen record, but did not solo. Im trying to find recordings of him soloing with the band. He apparently was featured quite a bit from I have been told but he had the disadvantage of being with the band during an era when they didnt make any commercial recordings. They did loads of stuff in the early to mid 80s, and my dad caught the end of that with Rollin. However after that I dont think they recorded another album until the mid 90s by which point my dad was already retired from the band and the music business in general. Anyways, anything you can provide would be much appreciated,
Max Acree Hi Max- thanks for contacting me. Unfortunately I don't have any more recordings. If you haven't checked out jazzster123 on TH-cam yet, try him. He has a recording of the band playing Manteca with Jon Faddis on trumpet. I believe there is a trombone solo on that cut and it's from the 80's. He has some more recordings as well- probably from the radio which is where I was lucky enough to get this one. Good luck- I'm sure you want to find as much as you can!
How did you get this recording of the great BWBB?
Drum Monk Hi- I recorded this on cassette tape in the mid 1980s from a Cincinnati radio station- WVXU- that was simulcasting the performance on radio. I wish I had more! I think it's great stuff.
No kidding! I was stationed at Wright Pat AFB at the time and used to get down there on Wednesday nights to catch the band. Had no idea WVXU had done any simulcasts. Thanks!
