I grew up with both but Pixar has always been my preference because that’s what I grew up with the most.
Personally- Pixar is very comforting for me and has been there for me through all my struggles growing up. The movies have shaped me into who I am today and I’m so happy for it.
So I’ll be biased towards Pixar always 🥹💖
But Studio Ghibli’s style is so beautiful. The food, the music, the details, etc they’re so beautiful. The stories are also something so out of the ordinary that makes it so interesting.
Luca was heavily inspired by Studio Ghibli and seeing a mix of both was breaking my brain. Pixar has been a fan of Ghibli and have put easter eggs in their movies too 😄
They plan on doing more similar movies to Luca too and hope to see those opinions!
I really enjoyed watching this video and seeing different perspectives! It had me going
“Ooohh that’s very true I’ve never thought of that!”

I think a good way to get a better sense of Miyazaki’s inspirations and how he looks at media for children is to check out his list of favourite children’s books. He read a lot of British novels as a child and I think it really weaves into his storytelling method. Also I don’t know if you’ve seen “When Marnie was There” but I think it’s his best film for showcasing how he can create very flawed protagonists who we still root for and celebrate their growth.
ALSO, I think it’s worth noting that Pixar is very into anthropomorphic characters, like a lot of their formula is “what if *object* had feelings???” While Ghibli has almost entirely human characters who sometimes interact with anthropomorphic things. It may be why the ghibli films feel more connected and the magic more “realistic”

I never liked Studio Ghibli that much. Like, everyone seems to see Spirited Away as one of the best movies of all time and I just think it’s alright.
