This is the absolute best thing ever. The atmosphere and accuracy and the amount of details, plus Sam's singing and text, just superb. 1. Sam Riegel is the "frontman" however the second he changes into Nott he becomes scared and hides behind Fjord. 2. Matt changes into a Spirit as a DM and disappears (and is at the end as the all mighty). 3. Jester skipping around, her lollipop. 4. Caleb immediately casting 4 light globes, then just standing still, taking a bunch of arrows to the face and using fire. 5. Beau protecting Caleb by catching an Arrow and flinging it at the enemy. 6. Molly cutting his neck and blades turning into radiant weapons 7. Jester having invoke duplicity at the end 8. Fjord and his watery falchion and corrupting curse at the end. It's just so much awesome. Literally the only way it could be more perfect is if Nott didn't charge a gnoll head on with a dagger, but instead peaked from behind some cover and shot a crossbow bolt and hid again.
@@enigmace9787 most of the characters are the mighty nein, the player characters in campaign 2 of critical role. the warlock woman is just an original character created for the animation.
I honestly love the whole thing, but my favourite part is if you listen real close, you can hear Sam going "DO DO, DO DO, DO DO, DO DO" along with the drum at the end, like he did originally. I just can't get enough of this
WolfRebel hell yeah, I listened a few times to make sure. I mean, I love all those dudes, but Sam is a fukkin god, Travis gets it, his reactions are pure Salieri
Dru Bryan In episode 7 of Season 2, for his DnD Beyond advertisement, Sam decided to make an 80s theme song for DnD Beyond (cause DnD started back in the 80s). Basically the words in this are what he sang (though it wasn't as layered). He also did the drums with his voice. It was gorgeous. I guess DnD Beyond were like "okay yup we're making this a thing now" and the result was amazing. Just look for it on the Critical Role Highlights page, they always have Sam's ads on there.
You HAVE to go back and re-watch the beginning of Ep. 7 to fully appreciate this. (Also doesn't hurt to watch the intro to the 80's D&D cartoon, if you haven't.) This awesome video is EXACTLY as Sam Riegel portrayed it in his original vocal in that episode, just with the awesome visuals masterfully filled in. I absolutely would have watched this when I was kid. I would absolutely watch it today.
There are so many wonderful little details too??? Like how the cheesy 80's picture of the cast turns into their D&D characters, but sat in the same position as their real selves, and how Matt-with-glasses turns into a ghostly hooded figure for a moment before he disappears (only to return at the end, in the background, in the throwback style of the original concept art of campaign 2). Like he's a ghost that's always there, even if the characters can't see him - which is a valid way of explaining what a Dungeon Master is, I feel. SO GOOD.
PSA: Do not start a subscription to D&D Beyond, and cancel it if you have it. In light of the OGL 1.1, the community must show WotC that we will stand against policies that harm the game we love and the creators around it. They are looking at D&D Beyond subscriptions as quick financial data, so cancelling your subscription is an effective way of showing opposition to the direction the company is taking. If you don't know what this is all about, there are tons of videos on the subject by various creators. I especially recommend the one by the Dungeon Dudes.

This is the greatest theme to anything I have ever heard. Sounds straight out of the 1980's, and makes me wish that it was a animated show in that decade.
They have. It's nowhere near as good as this ad is, but it does have rather great artwork and animation techniques. It came out I want to say early 1980s at the height of Saturday morning cartoons. I watched it when I was a kid(yeah, I'm old), it's a bit cheesy to watch now, but it was the 1980s, it was either cheesy, corny or badly done. The thundercats vibe I got was more 2011 thundercats than the old 1980s one.
Heck, no. I remember the D&D cartoon in the Eighties, and this would never have made it, for two reasons: 1. Enemies dying. The Eighties had a lot of rules for cartoons, and one was that the poor children should never, ever see blood or bloodshed of any sort depicted on the screen. In this intro, we have blood, we have gnolls getting torched by magic -- it would never have flown. 2. "The Complainer". Parent groups in the Eighties insisted that there had to be one character whose entire purpose was to object to the plan of action and be wrong. No exceptions. They would never, could never be right, because it was another of the rules, and the groups would always overrule them. Worse, not only did that hamstring their character development, but you could never get away from them, because their presence was mandatory. On D&D, it was Eric the Cavalier. On The Smurfs, it was Brainy Smurf. On The Snorks, it was Junior Wentworth. And the viewers got heartily sick of all of them. (Thankfully, by the Nineties, someone realized that teaching kids that anyone who objects to the group's plan is always wrong was not the best message...)

I was sold at the first line I was like, no wya, SCAR IS THE BEST WIZZARD
6. Molly cutting his neck and blades turning into radiant weapons
7. Jester having invoke duplicity at the end
8. Fjord and his watery falchion and corrupting curse at the end.
It's just so much awesome. Literally the only way it could be more perfect is if Nott didn't charge a gnoll head on with a dagger, but instead peaked from behind some cover and shot a crossbow bolt and hid again.
When Nott is drunk she is The Brave! So charging head on would be proper
The Gnolls shot her Caleb. Nott goes psycho for her boy.
I think that was the traveller tho (spirit)
FYI Caleb wasn't casting Dancing Lights, he was casting Scorching Ray
Edit: He does cast Dancing lights at the end
His first spell is dancing lights. Scorching ray was his second. And the last was also dancing lights.
The one ad I’ve ever watched that has gotten me super into something is this
i envy this random girl who's self insert got to play with the mighty nein
Glad I'm not the only one!
i think it was one of the animators!
I know nothing bout critical role who are the people in this short
@@enigmace9787 most of the characters are the mighty nein, the player characters in campaign 2 of critical role. the warlock woman is just an original character created for the animation.
@@enigmace9787 go watch critical role start at campaign2 and you will know! you will know, feel and cry!
Where is the source/inspiration for this cartoon? I'd like to see the original conversation!
(Also doesn't hurt to watch the intro to the 80's D&D cartoon, if you haven't.)
This awesome video is EXACTLY as Sam Riegel portrayed it in his original vocal in that episode, just with the awesome visuals masterfully filled in.
I absolutely would have watched this when I was kid. I would absolutely watch it today.
WolfRebel could be...
SO GOOD.
MsCunningLinguistic how about how since laura was put above the others but jester is rather short it results in her doing a "hop" into position.
I liked the way Beau catches an arrow and throws it back eliminating a knoll behind Jester.
A ghost that's always there? Matt Mercer is the Traveler confirmed.
One of them (Haven't seen Critical Roll, sorry) casts what I assume is magic missile
@@sananaryon4061 One: Go watch it, it's awesome!! Two: That's Caleb, he cases dancing light and scorching ray.
Why can't all ads be this epic?!? This is practically an anime intro and I LOVE it!!!
You should try DnD. It's sick
thank Sam Riegel
This gets stuck in my head more than I’d like to admit
I didn't know I needed this in my life until it arrived. Bless this song
I love how Mercer fades away as the DM when the cast become their characters.
Dry Socks omg I didn’t noticed that part before. Awesome catch. That’s a really cool detail.
He becomes the world. Nice catch :)
Dry Socks yeah then him at the end overlooking it all!
And Nott shyly hides behind Fjord.
I'd like to think for that moment, Mercer was the Traveler.

That... ok
I definitely added it to the playlist where I put classic TV theme songs.
Rest in piece Saturday morning cartoons you were gone too soon

Ah the good old days, also if you put a vhs effect on this video I bet it would look like a cartoon from the 80s. Wasn't born that time but I still watched stuff like that when I was a kid anyways
Amazing. We need this to be an animated series
the song was actually debuted on the critical role livestream. Sam Riegal is a player and all the characters seen here are based off of their current campaign's characters. so in a way, its already a series, just not officially animated. there are some fanmade animated highlight scenes though.
We REALLY need this to be an animated series
companyoflosers a link to those would be cool!

Klumsy Gamer the fan animated parts, you mean? Or the official channels? Because I'm looking for the fan animations.
Fun fact: the drums at the end are just Sam Riegel's voice
my favorite part is that you can hear him doing "dundun dundun dundun" under the music. fills me with glee
when I try to sing along now i cant help but pause and think "that is actually his voice making those drums"
Necro post but it's drums and him, not just him. He said that on ep 21, when this came out.
@@HeroKiro and like 12 layers of harmony lmao Sam is the best
Ok, when is the 20 episode series coming?
We call that Critical Role lol
Dragoncorn no we don't. CR isn't animated, is 4 hours long per episode, instead of 24 minutes, ...
There's also that kinda bad D and D cartoon show from the 90's....
Dragoncorn yea, but that didn't have near the quality of this. Also, if I remember correctly, there were 3, each of a dozen or so episodes. There also is the record of lodlass war, which is an anime based upon a group in Japan's campaign.
It took them nearly 100 days doing a 50-second intro. If they produce the rest in the same speed the first episode is done in 2400 days. December 29, 2024
Was this the song Sam made a few episodes back? I can't believe they actually did this~ well done!

That's part of the job. The DM is Fate, known to the Roman's as Night: Making the world work from behind the scenes.
I just love how, on the pic, we see Matt Mercer, and when we switch to the D&D world, he disappears

No, it has every right to be this badass.
The description should really say, "We're not fools."
Now we just need a full series of this.
This ad reminds me of those banger intros to cartoons from the early to mid 2000s and I love it!
Brings me back to my childhood
That was the entire point. Sam wrote the ad to call back to those Saturday morning cartoon commercials from the 80s and he nailed it
This is the greatest theme to anything I have ever heard. Sounds straight out of the 1980's, and makes me wish that it was a animated show in that decade.
i feel the same, a little bit of Thundercats vybes
@@awesolme considering what happened recently, the name give's me partial nightmare's
Heck, no. I remember the D&D cartoon in the Eighties, and this would never have made it, for two reasons:
@@Wolfrover but in the actual cartoon Eric was also kinda racist with his jokes (“they’re not *troll* enough”)

I feel like this should be a 90's Saturday morning cartoon, that plays after Dragon ball Z but before Sailor Moon.
Jubes Aren't they anime and so much more modern? I don't think they would really fit with the whole theme of 90's nostalgia to be honest.
The original Sailor Moon anime (not Crystal) is literally from the early/mid-'90s (iirc it originally premiered in '93). Not sure about DBZ though, but I think DragonBall is from the '80s.
This was designed as an homage to the 80s cartoons so you're a decade off.
