I had my Aortic valve replaced and a triple bypass in July last year, 2023, I was 53 at the time and was having dizzy spells and then I collapsed unconscious at home. Turned out I'd inhereted my late fathers bicuspid Aortic valve condition. I have the Onyx, St Judes mechanical valve, non bio, From diagnosis to operation was 17 days. A huge thank you to all the NHS staff at Liverpool heart and chest unit, surgeon Mr Muir, and Warrington Coronary Care Unit. UK.

Hey Jeff, thank you for the channel! I'm 43 pretty fit and staring down the same procedure as you. Not sure if you explained this somewhere already, but what were your symptoms/issues necessitating valve replacement? Can you feel any positive effect from the new valve making your heart feel better? Is it supposed to? (If its not too early to tell)

My symptoms were pretty mild, but shortness of breath and tightness in my chest were present on runs. General fatigue really hit hard starting early this year. Yearly echos had shown a severe leakage and a 5 cm aortic root, that's what made the surgery a go.
I'm working on a 3 month update videos, but yes I feel several benefits already. Mainly the three I listed are virtually gone. I'm above the 153 max rate now, I should be back to full go in the next couple of months. It's really a paced recovery not to overdo it.
I pretty much do whatever I want now and feel great.
I hope these videos help. Make sure you feel comfortable with the surgeon and I'm sure you'll do great.

@bicuspidaorticvalvereplacement awesome! Glad to hear the results! I've got to imagine it will feel awesome to just open up and go all out again after the time off.

17 months since my 7 1/2 hour surgery at Mount Sinai July 20, 2022 to replace my diseased aortic valve. Was hopeful for the Rose procedure. Ended up with a cow valve. Also needed an aortic aneurysm removed. Feel great. 5 days a week doing Cardio workout weight training cross fit and boxing. 68 years old

That's awesome! I'm still working to get back to full strength but every little bit helps .

Also you mention the heart rate cap of 153 in this video. Will you eventually be able to go above that unrestricted, and run 5ks, sprints, intervals or whatever else, or is it lifetime max 153? Im not sure what exercise you did before surgery.

Just had my 1 year (11 month) check up. All exercise restrictions are lifted now.

@bicuspidaorticvalvereplacement Pretty sweet! Hopefully you're up for pushing the RPM's a bit.

Hi. I heard you mention that you walk 3.5 to 4 miles in about an hour. I had airtic valve replacement surgery in April of 2022. I now brisk walk and jog 4.4 miles and it takes me about an hour depending on one stop light at busy intersection. Here at my age (69) I thought I was doing pretty good. I guess not compared to you.

Looks like you’re in a good place. I’m meeting with my Cardiologist this week. Question: Did you get a second opinion or did you go with the first doctor who treated you?

I had been with the same cardiologist for about 8 years. I visited with 2 surgeons. Both suggested the same course of treatment, but I felt way more comfortable and confident with the second surgeon.
