HOW TO REPLACE A CENTER SERVING

  • Most often, the weakest link on a bow string is the center serving. If your center serving comes loose, or if you have any sort of slippage, your nocking point will move. If your nocking point moves, you can throw everything else out the window. In this video, John Dudley will teach you how to replace a center serving so you never find yourself in a dire situation with a bad center serving that you can't replace right before or during a hunt or archery event.

      You inspire me. Started June 2024 on the journey to that same level. Always been mechanically inclined and good at knots

    I know “youtubers” have some monetary gain from having channels. But, to think that I can lie here in my bed at 10:00pm and learn to do this for free, makes me feel incredibly grateful for this channel and the 50 or so videos of yours I’ve watched so far. Many thanks!

    I bought a new string about two months ago and the serving started to separate under the area of the d-loop knot about a week ago. I never would have thought about trying something like this but, like many of his videos, John has a way of making things seem a lot easier than you would think and this is a great example. It took me three stops and restarts, mainly because I am perfectionist, but I ended up with a nicely served center serving. I mean it's not something I would recommend for a novice, but if you are comfortable tying in peeps and d-loops you can probably handle this no problem
    I got into target archery in the late 90s and a big part of the enjoyment for me was learning how to work on my own bow and arrows and tuning them to work well together. I learned most of it either through pros and other knowledgeable folks at my archery club or through trial and error. When YT took off it opened up a whole new world and John Dudley has proven to be one the best content creators out there. I have re-learned how to do so many things I thought I knew by watching his videos. There are others good ones out there to be sure, but none are better than Dudley IMO.

    Thank you for this video! Even a year after its posting, I watched this over and over again the past couple of weeks to teach myself how to center serve my bow in a pinch! The last serving, which was done by a bow shop..., lasted about 100 shots before starting to separate under the D-Loop! Center serving video, soft nocks video, and D-Loop video are all saved for the next time I need to replace it all!!! Thanks, Nock On for the parts and videos!!!!

    Amazing tutorial! Two weeks ago i did not even know there was such a thing called center Serving. I have played this clip over and over again and nailed it on the first attempt! Perhaps not as perfect as yours but at least with that sheen. Thank you ever so much!

    Hey John, great tutorial and very well explained. When it comes to tension on the jig, have you ever measured with a bow scale what you would consider perfect tension for the spool. I followed your instructions and think I got it just about right. I left the adjusted as is when I was done and measured 7.7lbs on the scale.

    Dud do you always complete the centre serving with the tail end underneath all the rotations laid across the string ?

    Thank you very much. Unfortunately I'm from New York. Thats a different story. My brother Danny had hid own shop for years. Called Danbow Archery. Well he retired so i bought one of his bow presses ,so now do my own work and wife and sons bows also. I knew alot from helping him out over the years. But he was the master and he did all the servings and technical stuff. Now im learning. God bless you and yours. Thank you for all your knowledge.

    Would you recommend waxing the string before putting on the serving?

  • @bendotson8845
    @bendotson8845 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    How many strands is the bow string? You're using .21 serving, I've been building strings using 20 strands of BCY454 and I have to use a .16 serving so the nock fits right.

  • @jeffsmith1830

    Noob question. My string seems to be too thin to allow arrow to "snap on". Do I just need an additional layer of serving?

    • @boxertechnical
      @boxertechnical ปีที่แล้ว

      There are a few things you can do. One is to change to a nock with a smaller throat. Different brands/models of nock are slightly different. Another is to use a larger diameter serving material. Serving material is available in a variety of diameters for this very reason.
