I've been able to have the opportunity twice to enjoy visiting this wonderful naval museum and I will never forget either visit especially because my friend that was with me both times has since passed away !!! What a memorable amazing experience it was to be immersed in such a way to learn what those sailors did for our country ! Thank you all for your service to our country and for restoring this amazing ship
Thank you! Glad you had such a great experience and that you got to share it with your friend. Hope you can come again after we get home and see some of the work that we're doing.
@@usskidd661 I know. I was impressed with the documentation and photos in the museum. I was able to lay my hands on different parts of the ship knowing my late dad had worked on that particular piece. Like I said, very emotional for me. At least my dad was able to see it before his health took a nosedive. He was able to go to the Caperton 50th reunion in Bath, Maine. That opened him up to finally start talking about the war.
Beautiful footage! I wore your "world tour" t-shirt to my second drydocking tour under the New Jersey and Ryan got a kick out of it. I really enjoy Parks' sense of humor 😁
Been to that shipyard, just about a year ago, when the C/P Arctic Fjord was about to go in the water, that was cool to see the move down the channel~ they had to dredge it to get the Fjoud out, but even then they had a barge under the stern, and airbags at the bow, that's a tough place. My Uncle served on a sip like this, after WWII some time.
Dang I went on school field trip to Baton Rouge and went tour this ship, amazing. I was also wondering where it had gone because every time I pass there I see it’s old spot.
How long do you anticipate her being in dry dock? We have been to visit several times, and have fond memories of our tour whenever we cross the river to visit family. I’m looking forward to her return to berth in Baton Rouge.
@@scottwilliams9539: Barring complications with the Mississippi River, she'll be back at the museum around May of 2025. We'll be out of drydock before then.
@@usskidd661 River gets low around this time of year. I offload barges North of Port Allen right across from Southern University. I was planning on taking my kids to see the Kidd, I guess we will have to wait til next year.
Beautiful effort presenting the continued honoring of our Navy efforts to protect our way of life.
That piano does so much for this video. Fell asleep, felt refreshed. I think I'll watch it again.
The music is perfect for this extraordinary water ballet. Sure do miss the swamp down there, folks are mighty, mighty nice.
@robnamowicz8073 : Glad you liked it!

I was deckhand on the carrier I was sadly off that hitch I was surprised to see the boat on the local news for this
Used to deckhand on the lead Crosby tow vessel when it belonged to another company back in '81 and it had a different name.
MV Gulf Brent
My visit to the USS Kidd was very emotional for me. My dad was a machinist mate on the USS Caperton DD-650.
@@paulmuncie3537: There are pieces of CAPERTON aboard KIDD.

We passed her just before the drone footage started heading East out of the Houma Nav. just North of Rock Island.
Live by shipyard. Welcome USS KID

the video looks great, do you have any info on the drone used?
@@liamisboss2: Stand by. We'll ask.
The only ship of its kind to have an ice cream machine on bored.
@@Forkinspoon7042: Can't say "Only." Only that DDs didn't normally have ice cream machines aboard ... in WWII. In Cold War years, many had them.

@Forkinspoon7042 : She'll be back in Apr/May of 2025 once repairs are completed and when the river rises high enough.

I am guessing there were various reasons the vessel could not use the Intercoastal Waterway to get to destination?
@@GregHart-rs4hm: Canal's too shallow and bridges and power lines are too low.
@@usskidd661 I figured it had to be something along that line of reason, thanks for answer
IF I had MY way, I would Guard the SHIP 24/7 365 until she returned to her BERTH !
PLEASE understand, I am just deeply attached to OUR GIRL ! I feel lost with her GONE. thats all.

Wow how much was this toe?
349 miles, I believe. It shows total distance at the end of the video. 🙂
Sad that these old ladies are not permitted to navigate under their own power.
Ascending? 🤪

Music is horrible.....something more patriotic perhaps? Otherwise, great video
Sorry you didn't like the music.
