Thanks for another great video. We spend Memorial Day cleaning the family cemetery back home at our small country church. We honor them all with new flowers, and of course new flags for our veterans. After that, we grab some burgers together and share good memories.
Always enjoy your videos. Memorial Day is usually a day of heavy reflection for me as I try to raise the flag at sunrise and lower it at sunset and honor the memories of those who have served and those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. I reflect on the hope that their sacrifices were not in vain and that we as a people appreciate what those before us have done and open our hearts for those left with the scars of conflict. I usually shed a tear or two and raise a toast to those who paid the most.
I’ve almost always worked on Memorial Day. As a hairdresser that owns his own business, I’ve almost always worked on Mondays since most hairdressers don’t. Now days I’m home with my son on Mondays, so I’ll be home hanging out with him. I couldn’t think of another better way to spend any day, holiday or not.
Too few celebrate the solemnity Memorial Day deserves. Too many brave men and women have been laid upon the altar of freedom to be neither celebrated or honored. Abraham Lincoln’s letter to Mrs. Bixby is a stirring reminder worth looking up and perhaps the ending copied using a flex nib to add to its grandeur. Thank you for your APTV channel.
-20° F is when they cut off outdoor recess in my state so that makes total sense to me! An appropriate way to include the new ice blue twsbi. :) We will attend our church's memorial day picnic this year, but we will probably be working on our new backyard fencing too-wildlife has started eating our fruit trees!
Great episode! I celebrate Memorial Day by bike riding/touring the entire weekend and bike races as well here in the Chicagoland area. From time-to-time hang out with my VFW/Legion family when not riding. Have a great week!
Hi Lisa and Brian! Welcome back! Our court has a block party for the families in the court. BBQ grills are set up for grilling burgers, hotdogs, salmon, and chicken (and whatever else someone wants to grill). Everyone brings a dish or two, there are games for the kids (and some adults), and everyone has a good time! There is a parade which is fun to watch-anyone can join the parade (the little kids get a kick out of being in the parade, and they get free stickers and a snack for being in the parade). Probably go for either a hike or bike ride Saturday or Sunday. Fun times!
Great episode! Glad to hear that you had a nice time in Florida. We generally get together with our kids for a cookout on Memorial Day. Last year, Peoria held a very moving service, which we attended. Hope to see you this summer!
When I was a child, all the people on our block would gather at a neighbor's vacant lot to raise the flag and say the Pledge of Allegiance. This would be followed by a picnic-style pancake breakfast. Wonderful memories. This Memorial Day, my best friend is coming over for grilled chicken and if the weather cooperates, he wants to do some yard work. I hope you enjoy your visit w/Brian's mother and I look forward to your next video.
Thanks for another entertaining episode. I always enjoy hearing about new (or returning) products, even those I know I can't afford to buy. As for Memorial Day, we used to go camping that weekend, but with the increasing number of people who camp these days, we either go the weekend before, the weekend after, or both. Now to go check out the new writing pads and TWSBI.
This year my middle kid is in marching band and will be participating in our local parade. It will be a first for us to see, considering I had no idea our city had one. When I was growing up I would help my grandparents sort the flowers & flags the local VFW(which my grandfather was an active member & volunteer) had on hand for families to honor their fallen.
I'm glad to see that many here are honoring the true meaning of Memorial Day. I was planning a peaceful hike with a friend, but the weather forecast indicates 100 percent chance of thunderstorms, so maybe not.
This year we celebrated by heading to DC to see the grandkids. It should be a memorable trip.😮
We go to our small town Memorial Day parade (held on Saturday). Always the same every year: a few veterans, a couple of high school marching bands from neighboring towns, a revolutionary war reenacters’ fife and drum corps, an NJROTC, a kid’s softball league, and the town fire trucks.
Memorial Day is very special to me. I have and have had a lot of military family members and friends. We get together to honor and remember the ones we love who served who are no longer with us.
Welcome back! Those notepads look great - I like them.
You might have guessed it, but we don't celebrate "Memorial Day" at all. =) I would even have to look up what it's about.
Greetings from Vienna ☕
Happy Memorial Day! It’s a day off for me. Currently, I don’t do anything special except to reflect on relatives who have passed away. As a young girl, my parents would visit my grandmother in Indianapolis and we would place flowers on my grandfather’s grave. We don’t live close to any of the cemeteries where our relatives are buried so I don’t have the opportunity to visit their graves.
Florida: East Coast? West Coast? Oceanside and Gulfside. 😉
Whatever. Good to see you both back and looking well.
Happy World Turtle Day! (May 23)
I went into a bookstore to ask if they had any books about turtles.
The cashier asked, “Hardback?” I said, “Yeah, and little heads!”
Celebration of Memorial Day for my family is a cookout (and I can switch to a lighter color hat, which right now would be a tan newsboy cap. 😉) I have several family members that are veterans, and they might all be around, this year. First time in years.
Since Memorial Day is my birthday
, we are going out to dinner to celebrate. Take the day off on me.
Memorial Day is a relaxing day for us - no work. We like to remember the sacrifices made for the freedoms we enjoy. We usually try to BBQ if the weather premits.
Memorial Day weekend means a visit to the local annual fine arts fair. And there will typically be some grilling. Because grilling.
We'll probably be meeting up with the in-laws for a meal. FIL is a vet
My limit was -15. Mostly because the grease in the crankset gets a lot thicker…..
Memorial Day is like the far shore of an empty lake in the public holiday landscape. I dont have regular plans, but I will probably get together with friends for board games. I might go for a hike as well.
And how’s that 5-year diary going?
I used ti cycle with a fellow who bicycled to work even at -40°. If it counts, I'm currently "riding" a exercise handcycle in physiotherapy thee times a week.
Will you be at the Orlando pen show in September of this year?
I don't really do anything to celebrate Memorial Day.
