  • Rob and Jason are joined by David Barr (aka javidx9). They first discuss Microsoft open sourcing calculator, an update to CMake and the March 2021 ISO Mailing. Then they talk to David about his TH-cam channel, One Lone Coder, what inspired him to start it, and PixelGameEngine, the 2D game engine he works on with the One Lone Coder community.

    i dont use cpp but he explains things so i can use the examples in rust.

    8:30 The biochem aspect of neuron learning has always been a huge draw for me. I am quite familiar with the chemistry of the various receptors and while I partially want to simulate that at the same times conversations I had have kind of convinced me it is largely unnessesary to do so. I sort of keep it in the back of my mind now and consider it as I design stuff but do not feel like a 1 to 1 model is needed.
    12:00 GUI in CPP is a royal pain in the ass, full stop. Something seriously needs to be done in that area.
    16:00 Dude, I have been coding for a bit now and honestly I am still not even fluent in Cmake. I think it largely comes down to needs. I dont really need cross platform much so I have not put the effort forth that I really should have to deeply learn Cmake.

    30:30 I coulnd't agree more. When I got back into programming a couple years back now that was a major hurdle getting back into it, it was all a bit of a pain in the ass to be honest.
    56:00 Remember right before you made the PGE I was doing something similar with that little graphics engine and I basically had two different Pixel draw routines, one was unsafe and one safe. Generally just used the Unsafe one in functionality I wrote and the safe one was more of a public facing interface or when I was not fully sure I was not going to screw up and go out of bounds.
