Listening in from the Central Table lands N.S.W. Australia with a big log fire going and the hot water tank nicely bubbling away. Early winter arriving here now and most importantly enjoying the show.
So good. You can call this Scottish or Canadian Celtic, but it's not Old World or New World -- it's All World. Two inimitable musicians at the top of their game. Natalie and Mac create as much music as the average 80-person orchestra, and create as much joy as well. Thanks!
By the time Natalie gets into Devany's goat every part of her body (and soul) is moving and grooven' to the tune! It's hard to remain still while Natalie and Mac get crankin'! Amazingly wonderful music...
To clarify, I loved how Mac was very supportive (and always is) in his accompaniment. He ramps up volume nad intensity slowly, stays in the background, listens very well to whoever is playing. He mixes up arpeggiation, block chords, bass runs, and switches the register artfully. Mac's definitely a piano idol for me!
@ John McCrea Ha ha. "The piano strangely works"? They would be most gratified to hear that in Cape Breton as they have been doing it that way for generations! LOL
We were there also! So fun to relive some of that moment. Celtic Colours Festival is an absolute phenomenal event. Thank you Natalie for your decades of incredible playing and commitment to the Cape Breton style !
We saw this show live at Strathspey Performing Arts Centre last Fall. Wonderful performance. This video certainly does the show justice. It was great to see the extended family.
Accidentally stumbled on this page but so glad I did! Such wonderful music! Thought this was from Ireland or Scotland and was surprised to learn this festival is in Nova Scotia. Hope to visit after COVID is under control and Trump is dumped. Thanks! St.Louis, MO, USA
Come on up! You must come to Cape Breton Island. This music is all over the island and it’s where Natalie and Mac are from. Oh and it’s friggin gorgeous
Awesome - thanks for sharing this with us Natalie! I appreciate that about you - you share videos of your playing (and your family) AND you share sheet music. Not too many musicians do that.
So i was playing doom with youtube playing metal music in the background and during a big fight were i couldn't tab out this came on. It was an interesting experience to say the least.
I hope before I die (not anticipating doing this soon) that I get to go to Celtic Colors. Also I hope, someday to be able to clog (flatfooting as it's called in the U.S. Midatllantic.) This is slightly less realistic than being able to go to Celtic Colors.
Anyone know what type of pick-up is on Natalie's fiddle? ....Sounds a lot better than most. (Pretty close to a pure, acoustic sound rather than an *electrically amped.)
Awesome is used too frequently to describe a performance. This however qualifys beyond doubt. It's not just the playing; it's her ability to take you right into the music Meloroony
March of the Cameron Men; O’er the Moor among the heather; Miss Gordon of Fochabers; not sure about the second strathspey or the first reel; The Fir Tree (I think); The Fairy Dance;
My 4-year-old remarked sadly, "It only has the mom." LOL. This must be what heaven sounds like. PERFECTION.
(Denmark) So beautiful I need words 🎶 🌹🎶🌹
I put down my fiddle between 2015 and this January. My goal is to get back to this sound.

It’s got it’s own name: Cape Breton!

Celtic music going from sad and thoughtful to picking up and moving on and to a joyful end, rousing of the soul.
Per ardua ad astra
Needed this tonight in Nova Scotia. Healing Hearts....

These two are so connected musically it’s awesome to listen to and watch.
Most amazing, she’s dancing while playing ..... cause of course she can dance on what she’s playing ..... and comp to piano too. What a musician !
Wonderful to listen to, and to watch!
That piano playing is super nice, great job Mac.

It will still be there in 2025.

We Scots left our mark on all corners of the globe :)
Way to inject your political views into a lovely musical moment *eyerolls*
BRAVO!!!!!!
Brilliant! Amazing piano accompaniment!!

I've been waiting patiently for the first batch of 2018 videos to arrive!
So i was playing doom with youtube playing metal music in the background and during a big fight were i couldn't tab out this came on. It was an interesting experience to say the least.
Pure magic.
That's hot stuff
GUAU!! EXTRAORDINARIO
we love Celts
WOW!!!
Irish Art-sweet and touching
This isn’t Irish! It’s the Cape Breton style: a direct descendent of the Scottish sound.
Tour de Force! ❤

super

Precioso
If she was a guitar player shed be playing Knopfler style, just better than its ever, ever been done!
Does it get any better than this?
Natalie is superb. She is talented and engaging. She pulls me into her music and it is so enjoyable.
Awesome is used too frequently to describe a performance. This however qualifys beyond doubt. It's not just the playing; it's her ability to take you right into the music
Meloroony
WHAOUOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
ΕΧΑΙΡΕΤΙΚΟ...!!!
Pardon my lack of knowledge, but is she playing a viola? Seems large for a violin. :)
It's not a viola, but I agree, it is on the large side.
Traditional Cape Breton/Scottish music at its finest.....Can anyone name the tunes here?
March of the Cameron Men; O’er the Moor among the heather; Miss Gordon of Fochabers; not sure about the second strathspey or the first reel; The Fir Tree (I think); The Fairy Dance;
@@andrewosullivan5588 Thanks Andrew....Just saw your reply now. :)
