My Dad had this record with his new Hi-Fi system-Dynaco PAS3 preamp-ST70 power amp.All tubes.Stephens 15" coax speakers in homebuilt cabinets-to the plans that came with the raw speakers.Helpted Dad build them.Sound records like this were used in Hi-Fi equipment sales salons-to show how "realistic" the sounds are.Oh yes-the electronics were kits. You built them yourself.Have built several! Also he had a test record with test tones phasing tones and tracking. Also an assortment of sound effects-my favorite was a bow&arrow shot One channel the bow firing the arrow-other the arrow hitting a target!Early Hi-Fi folks used these records to demo their systems to their friends-was an in thing in those days-LOVED IT!At the time-us kids were NOT allowed to play his system-I was an older teenager at that point.So-when Dad and Stepmom went out for the night sneaked a LOT of plays of those AF records and my own.Later I got my own system with a Scott amp and Philips speakers in Carlson cabinets.And--played Dads records on my setup-sounded GREAT!!!Sadly all of this got lost in a flood in Rapid City SDak in 1972.Both Hi-Fi sets were workable when the flood hit. Mine stored at Dads place in the basement rec room while I was in school.Thosed tubed amps gave super realism to those records when played thru them.

That's a much more recent pressing of that LP. The label is the giveaway. The earliest Audio Fidelity stereo records had a silver label with strobe markings at the perimeter.

Jay Rudko - You are right on, the label is newer than what the cover looks like, Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺😊

Apparently, the first stereo record was Johnny Puleo and his Harmonica Gang Volume 1 (AFSD 5830), followed by Railroad - Sounds of a Vanishing Era (AFSD 5843), then Lionel - Lionel Hampton and his Orchestra (AFSD 5849), and then Marching Along with the Dukes of Dixieland Vol. 3 (AFSD 5851). :)

I was there at the beginning and remember when that record came out. There came to be a lot of "stereo demonstration records" back then. But the "first" record was Audio Fidelity Dukes of Dixieland...which, since it was a small music group, also was a stereo demonstration record. The ultimate Audio Fidelity records were the classical "First Component Series" which has been released by some Manhattan holding company (of the rights), but the re-issues all have the channels reversed and they were digitized at such a high level that the process clipped everything above even medium loud...so I hope somebody like HDDT gets rights to those tapes so that they can be done justice.

After they saw super-widescreen movies, in stereophonic sound, guys would want to get it at home when the means existed. That was still such a big deal song 'Stereophonic Sound' was in 1955 Broadway musical "Silk Stockings" and the film of 1957. Seems like a long time ago, but 1957/ 58 really isn't (unless you are a teen or such).

I could be wrong but I think the numbs are from the cutting process.

In 1954, RCA which made an experimental stereo recording of Franck's symphony in D minor. It was Arturo Toscanini's NBC Symphony Orchestra, this time conducted by Toscanini's Italian protoge', whose name I cannot now remember. Anyway, I have the record. I'm not sure when it was released, but it was recorded in stereo, in 1954.

      John Cran - it's not a 1958 pressing
It's a more recent repressing, you can tell by the newer label, there are plenty of copies of this later copy around, there's a few here in Australia too, Cheers 😊🇦🇺

I had that record but don't know what happen to it. Oh well but i do have all the Dukes of Dixieland albums on Audio Fidelity. There was 11 volumes and the the best of 1 and 2 and in 1966 they released two albums with previous songs from the other albums. I just realized that's a reissue album which is no big deal as long as it plays good. i remember one day it was raining and i put that record on my Dads zenith console and turned it up.

Audio Fidelity made several early stereophonic "demonstration" records in the 57-62 era. The best known of them were their sound effect volumes. Car crashes, jet takeoffs, horses running, etc, running from one channel to the other. Radio Shack had them in their stores into the 80s.
Also popular in the early stereo age were the "Ping-pong stereo" music records. Most were by Enoch Light but there were imitations. In these musical instruments would answer one another from channel to channel.
The novelty faded and the last major release with exaggerated stereo was Mercury's classical recording of "Wellington's Victory". The French and the English were in separate channels when the music began.
It must also be noted that these were released on reel tapes at the time as well.

At least you don't have to worry about copyright infringement on this video!! Also, can't believe how mint that record and cover is for being 1958!!!

I actually DID get a copyright content match for a song in this video (which there is none). I am disputing it. Unbelievable.

Eric Thompson - it is not the original 1958 pressing, look at the more recent label, it's a later reprint, it's not that hard to find, my local record store here in Australia has 4 copies selling for just - $25.00 each, Cheers 😊🇦🇺
