What was this from? Was this for bookstores/musicstores? This was never released commercially.

I can see in retrospect why Against the Law was an embarrassment to Stryper. Don't get me wrong. The musicianship and production were top notch on this album, but this would definitely pass as an atheist's favorite Stryper album as the attitude of the band while making this album was rebellion and "stick it to the man", focusing on their own agenda instead of preaching the Gospel of Jesus. Similar to the attitudes of certain prosperity preachers in America nowadays who tickle itching ears with feel good, self centered humanism instead of calling for repentance from sin.
I'm so glad Stryper repented and put their focus back on God with Bible based lyrics in their recent albums!

Yeah, in hindsight, it's now easier for me to see how this album was revealing somewhat a rebellious attitude. To folks on the outside, what might just seem like a slight change in musical direction that sounds really cool was probably internally much more significant of a change for this band made up of Christians. Michael's book, Honestly, speaks quite a bit about this period in the life of the band. But I have to say, I NEVER get tired of listening to this album. It's just SO GOOD. The musicianship and production is perfect. It's better than almost ALL of it's peers from that era, and it does not have the garbage lyrics and ridiculous topics associated with so many of the other bands' projects from that period. If they had released this album just two or three years earlier with proper distribution and marketing, it would have been a MASSIVE success.

Respectfully, I disagree. I much prefer Against the Law to any recent album. I think good on them for being "rebellious" as you put it (though in the grand scheme of things, it was hardly that). The attacks they recieved from the Church (of all people) were narrow-minded and hurtful. ATL was much more creative musically and lyrically. God's big enough to handle a bunch of songs that are a bit more wider in scope than the usual "Christian" cliches. Afterall, He's the ultimate Creator. Yet we expect Christian artists to fit inside this tiny box with no room for various ideas, thoughts and expressions that don't fit under the banner of "preaching the Gospel". That's small-God-syndrome and not the God I worship.
