Really impressive stuff honestly, ike I cannot think of any other example of such smooth/complex movement on a n64 game, the models were pretty blocky for the most part and usually resorted to 2d sprites when they needed more complex stuff in motion. This is fully 3d, pure tecnical wizardy I say.
4:19 That's how you know Michael Jackson was that big of an artist where an enemy in a children's/young adult's Nintendo video game does his dance. Not an imitation/lookalike dance, but his actual dance.
In all my years playing this game I have NEVER seen the AI be so efficient and cruel as at 7:26 to 7:41. I didn’t even think majora could grab you while you were airborne.
In all seriousness, I really miss when you could only refill hearts from *bottles* (which held potions or fairies) and you could only get like 3 or 4 max bottles. BOTW is broken/too easy
I never liked Fierce Diety in this fight. It feels too cheap and easy. It does have story implications though through symbolism much like the rest of Majora's Mask does though, so that's a bit neat, but that's about it for me. All of that said, Majora's Mask was designed to be able to be beaten by all of the forms in at least some manner without needing to switch out or anything like that. In this way, you can kind of choose your own hiddent difficulty or style to handle him. A very well designed final boss in this regard and breath of fresh air that I wish the Zelda series would revisit again.
I know, right? I used to not know that the fierce deitys mask was a thing (because I could honestly never complete the goron challenge in the moon when I was a kid) so I always used to use chateau Romani or whatever it's called (you know the special milk that gives you infinite magic that you buy at a bar as an underage delinquent that somehow knows the code to a speakeasy) and the Zora mask with his zappy zappy shocky insanely magic draining shield to counter majoras wraths' tentacle grabbing and it was a pain in the ass I tells you to try and fight this boss every time I wanted to try and introduce my friends into the wondrous world that is the zelda universe by showing them some epic boss battle let me tell ya'
I really want to thank you for doing this battle using only sword and shield. As an avid lover of this game I've analyzed the shit out of it for years. And with this, seeing Link use only a sword and shield against a demon like beast equipped with two massive whips able to slash and pull through link, I realized a new message in the game. Link is a child. Majora by the end of this battle is a giant compared to him. A giant of evil. Throughout the game Link has done small good deeds that seem unrelated to the impact of this battle. In this Link becomes an embodiment, or rather a symbol, of weak, innocent, but impactful good. The difference in their size and Link's skill and age really flushes out this idea. I never realized how important Link's age was in highlighting themes in the story until now. All said, its fucking badass to see a young guide wield a sword and shield two thirds his size and single handedly bane evil.
You're welcome, although I think I still did rather bad consisting the battle. This isn't the only video of this I've done. On a more related note, everything you just mentioned is why I love the game so much, and why I've liked it enough to even start my own fanfiction of it. Although I only really write it on my own time. My fanfiction pretty much puts all of that into fruition. The whole near impossibility and the incredible danger Link puts himself in to try and save Termina, when in reality he honestly doesn't have to. The Woodfall really highlights it for me; both in game play and in a realism aspect; where a simple mistake in footing or getting hit has an effect on both the gameplay and on a realism side of things: Falling off those wooden platforms leads to certain death except in extreme rare cases. And even if you do make it out of that water alive, Link's usually going to be at less than 1 heart, panting from nearly being killed as you struggle to swim him back to the closest piece of land you can scramble desperately up on. In a story aspect though, it isn't just giants Link is fighting, but enemies that have been considered powerful enough to be considered deities. The Deku Scrubs were going to sacrifice the Monkey in the swamp to Odolwa, for example. Of course, the fact that Majora can summon up a whole freaking moon makes it godly enough as it is. I'd love to see Ganondorf do that. And the whole three days thing is just a game to the mask. A game to play with the people's hearts as doom just slowly descends down upon them. People criticize Majora's Mask for it's lack of story, but it does more story telling than any other Zelda game out there. There's even a paper airplane stuck on a pillar in Ikana castle. The simple polygon'd airplane tells A LOT about the potential history of Ikana castle before the kingdom's downfall, it's such a small detail that so many people missed or may not have even cared about, yet when you stop to think about it, it can tell so much. The Stalchildren in the Ikana graveyard too shows that Ikana was desperate enough, that they were using child soldiers to try and hold up in the war. So much detail that's not even relevant in the main story is the beauty of the game that a lot of people just outright miss.
***** Would you allow me to read it sometime? :) I still need to get back into rewriting mine. Just been a bit too busy to do so, even though it's only 1/3rd of the way done.
@@dominicbonogofski You don't think outside the box. It's not "one or the other." It's "Both are devils." I gave the proof in my series. Your argument from incredulity fallacy, and your false dichotomy, don't work. It is easy to linl Link with Satan via the fact that Link is based on Peter Pan, who in turn was based on Pan... a literal devil. That's only part of my argument. And then you commit a red herring fallacy citing young Link's age as if kids can't be evil. How naive. Most people don't want the truth. God rejects such people.
Sword/shield actually makes majora seem formidable.. as a final boss should be. Really let's (what I believe should be) Majora's fighting style come through.
When people don't abuse a boss' flinching mechanic by timing their hits so their flinching resets, anyway... Although to be fair, I did really badly in this battle. But when my keyboard at the time only allows two inputs to be used at the same time, I guess it would be like that.
Cory Clark Oh lord, with the Deku Mask. But it wasn't as frustrating for me as trying it with the Goron Mask only. At least with the Deku mask you can kind of shoot the other masks down, especially if they get close. Can't do much but just slowly punch with the Goron, and you can only really stun Majora by rolling into him at the right moments. It's nothing but frustration. Even infinite magic and blue potions couldn't save me with that one. At least with the other masks, you have an attack that you can use as a reaction with some ranged utility. Goron form is just... fat.
yeah, I don't use arrows on him anymore for that reason. It disgusted me how easy it was with arrows. It too easy to hit him and he can do much. With sword and shield really make it challenging and a dynamic fight. It makes me wonder why nintendo don't add an hard mode in their games were the boss are faster, defend their weak spot wayyyyy better, have new attacks, etc..
Just saw the "Majora's Mask - Terrible Fate" animation, so I had to check a good boss fight against Majora. And, honestly, this was probably the best one I could find... Most people seem to just go with Fierce Deity and end the fight as quickly as possible.
Yeah, which is a shame because Majora is actually a very, very well designed boss. Every form is capable of beating it, some harder to accomplish than others of course. I feel ashamed for having to use a blue potion in this fight though. Then again, I maybe didn't need to if not for that ridiculous throw combo at around 7:20. If people want another fight though even though it'd be 6+ years later, I still will. It'll even have the proper aspect ratio (hopefully) this time!
Sairek Ceareste I agree... Me, I'm one of those weird people who prefer the boss fights themselves to be epic rather than doing well when I fight the bosses. Meaning I never cheap my way to victory and often put restrictions on myself before I go into a boss fight (e.g., I might decide that I'll fight a boss while being massively underleveled, or poorly equipped, or not to use any healing items, or to end the fight with a certain super awesome but very impractical attack, or to let the boss hit _me_ with one of _their_ super awesome but very damaging attacks, just so it feels like me and the boss both went all-out... during one Kingdom Hearts run, I decided that I wouldn't let my Disney companions get Knocked Out even a single time, which was not only challenging but also made the message of friendship feel a lot more genuine). Majora's Wrath does _not_ play fair. xD But that ridiculous throw combo also made the fight that much more enjoyable to watch. Made the fight feel less one-sided and stuff. ^^ Heh... Well, I suppose that's up to you. Would you do it on the 3DS version next time?
GrahamChapman I have the 3DS version, but no way to capture my 3DS screen. I suppose with a 3DS emulator out now, it may be possible, albeit at the moment it's a bit unstable. I plan to hack my 3DS so I can emulate Majora's Mask on my PC (because my 3DS is really old and beginning to fall apart as it is, it can't even play regular DS games anymore). So if I can get that done, and assuming it all runs okay, then maybe. I'm glad they didn't change Majora in the 3DS version though like they did for all of the other bosses. The fight itself was fine, although the flinching mechanic itself was broken in the N64 version with being able to permanently hit stun Majora and pretty much all the other bosses.
Sairek Ceareste Recording could pose a problem, true. An emulator is probably your best bet, provided you can find an emulator that both has okay image quality and is somewhat compatible with a recording software. M'yeah. Not that I particularily minded the updates they gave the other boss fights, (though they could've at least _tried_ to make them a bit harder,) but yeah, the fight against Majora was already good and iconic enough as it was... Also, yeah, the hitstun might've been a bit ridiculous.
I forgot just how *vicious* Wrath is. If you couldn't just sit behind your shield or have invulnerability frames after being knocked over for many of its attacks, it'd be a *Bloodborne* boss.
Fleece Manjenkins Yes. There's a specific spot on the the weird pattern that Majora's Mask starts in, the lower bottom left of that pattern is notorious for pushing you through the wall, especially if you get flung on to it in just the right way (You just need to land on it, more or less). Though, Nintendo was smart. They put a fail-safe in the map. If you fall outside of the arena past a certain point, you will be teleported immediately back into the middle. Though, that usually means right in front of Majora since he generally hangs in the middle of the arena in his final form. You usually get kicked in the face before you can even react.
That flinging combo was glorious... I think what caused it is that Majoras wrath flings you when you are at a far range, and it happened to be in the middle of the map and.... only when it jumped to a particular side did the wombo combo end
I'm not sure if he's meant to try and fake you out by doing that, but usually when he falls near you, you can just poke him with the sword. Occasionally though if you get near him when he's like that, he will suddenly get up and counter attack with his projectile spam which is the only actual offensive ability he has. Despite what Tatl suggests by saying you should use the sword, getting near him is actually fairly dangerous as Link. The projectiles can't really be blocked at close range; they splash through the shield. They can even splash through it while you're distanced too. It's best to just avoid contact with them entirely by side hopping if possible. Using the Deku form actually works well here. The Deku's shell can actually blocks the projectiles completely and he always runs over the flower patterns (which you can burrow into) on the edge of the arena. The spin if he runs by you generally connects all the time too if you're up on the surface. It's also entirely possible to just hit him easily with the bow, so long as he is running straight away/towards you, the shots will generally connect but at times his AI will just have him abruptly run to the side, bow or no bow.
I like the camera angles that result from locking onto Majora's Incarnation with Z-targeting. It's only a side-effect of locking onto something that runs laps around the room in seconds flat, but it really adds to the "off-ness" of the whole thing.
Only major problem with it is that lock-on range is too short that it's easy to lose him, and then you have to get very up close to try and lock on to him again, which at times can be very needlessly difficult to do. Ironically, it can be too difficult to lock onto the correct target you want, or to cancel targeting when the masks are flying about.
@@SairekCeareste Yeah I get that. I just mean from a purely aesthetic standpoint. I'm just speaking as someone whose first experience with the game was watching someone else play it.
He's done much worse to me. Flung me so many times in a row that I was outside of the walls of the map and he was _still_ flinging me around (there's a sweet spot where if you get thrown in the right place, Link will "jump" through the wall automatically). I think he did the attack thirteen times in a row, which of course took up 13 of 20 hearts.
Super Mooshroom *Technically* speaking, Majora is gender-less. The game and even the Manga refers to Majora as _'it'_, though in the game's view, that could be seen as just referring to Majora as a mask. In the manga however, Majora is sometimes referred to as a deity, even in background story to show how Majora was turned into a mask, and still seen as an 'it'. Even the "games" it plays with Link are rather gender-less. With "Hide & Seek" and "Tag", and then playing with the people of Termina as if they were merely dolls.
Haha, so many times I have played this game and I just NOW realized the best pun Nintendo ever made and was never even put into words. Majora's Incarnation moonwalks. Let that sink in.
I’ve once spoken about how Majora doesn’t disturb me anymore, I immediately take that back after remembering THIS is a thing and I can never grasp Majora’s true nature. Regardless of what origin the mask is born in, it will always remain a hexing mask with terrifying potential, power, and origin. Whether it be made from the armour of a beast who is revered as a monster to people, or a ritualistic mask of unimaginable evil, it will always remain terrifying.
@Frostfire40 The highest amount of flings I got him to do in a row was literally 9 flings; the only reason he stopped I think was because the 9th fling literally had me thrown through the wall and out of bounds; which the boss battle has a fail-safe for the player to teleport to the middle of the arena if that happens.
finally someone uploads a video of the boss fight where they dont kill them in 10 seconds. thank you, finally was able to see all of his whip moves again and bring back some good memories :)
When I first fought against Majora, this is how I had to do it, and it was brutal as heck, I died so many times to her Wrath form. I remember just losing control so much when she decides to throw you around and whip you constantly and there isn't anything you can do to stop it for a while!
That's how you know Michael Jackson was that big of an artist where an enemy in a children's/young adult's Nintendo video game does his dance. Not an imitation/lookalike dance, but his actual dance.

wow even while just using sword and shield you were way better prepared than I was. I only had eleven hearts and the standard kokiri butter knife, and phase three just ate up all my fairies. That is as close to hard mode as I dare get.
I remember fighting this guy in the remake. I didn't even know the Fierce Deity mask was a thing, it was my first Zelda game, so this whole fight was so unnerving. I just had to hang back most of the time to find their patterns, I was at a disadvantage and I knew it. The only way to win the fight was to be cowardly, only attacking when I was absolutely sure I could pull it off.
This battle was soooooo annoying, took me forever to understand how to kill Majora... 1st: in her first form you need to use Deku mask and dive into the flowers and fly when she's above you. You only need to do this 3 times untill the masks join the battle. 2nd: Kill the masks around with light arrows always defending from majoras laser. When the masks are gone, target majoras with her own laser using your shield till she turns herself into Michel Jackson's incarnation (I'm joking, but the moonwalking is awesome :D) 3: During the majoras incarnation, you just need to target her and throw arrows while she's dancing (watch out when she start to throw the bubbles). Whenever you hit an arrow, run to her and attack with your sword. Need to do this a few times till she turn into Majora's Wrath 4: When she turn into Majora's wrath put your Zora's mask (which will make your battle waaaaaay easier) and protect yourself with the eletric barrier (hope you had the romani chateau for unlimited magic) and get close enough for attacking her. Seriously, this is the best and easier way for killing her, once you have unlimited magic and you can do some harm with the eletric barrier, avoiding her annoying attacks... Hope I could help you, it took me a morning, but I finished the bitch :D
If feels as if sword and shield is how this should have been done. The final phase actually lasts a good while and the attacks are actually really good at defending, so it prologues the battle well and this was...actually fun to watch. It was too fast with arrows for me.
This is definitely the way the fight should have been, more Dark Soulsy. The only change I would make to this game is that the fight should be impossible without the Fierce Deity mask, and using it means you can't use any magic items, and even _with_ the mask you're only as powerful to Majora as Link is regularly like in this video, you should be forced into this kind of sword fighting and forced to look for openings and things. And imagine the implications of that: Majora is so powerful it has to make you more powerful just so you'll be more entertaining to thrash.
***** I agree as far as story goes, that being forced into the Fierce Diety mask would have made for a more climatic plot. Especially since this is what happens in the Manga. When Majora tells Link after Link had saved Skull Kid from being killed by him, to "play a game" with it. He decides tag, and tells Link that he's "it", and gives him the Fierce Diety mask. In Japan, the person who's "it" is the "Oni", meaning demon, which of course that is what the Fierce Diety mask turns Link in to. The thing about the game though, is that Majora is meant to be challenged in any way you want. There's supposed to be a variety of ways to defeat him -- some more challenging then others. Those flower patterns on the floor are for the Deku Scrub, for example. So if you're really crazy, you can defeat him using only the Deku transformation. There's also the thing that the game never actually forces you to pick up heart pieces or heart containers. So you can go throughout the entire game with only 3 hearts. The game was explicitly designed to allow veteran players to choose the difficulty of the game by choice. So the game sacrifices a little bit of game-play and plot, for a lot of replay-ability. It's hard to fault it because of that, because it does work. And gameplay wise, suddenly being thrust into a new transformation you have no idea of its abilities, would be a bit of a nasty move. The game always teaches you and gives you information on how to use a transformation. While Fierce Diety acts the same as Link mechanically, on a technical standpoint he is quite different.
Sairek Ceareste There's a bunch of ways around that from a design point of view - you can't heal in the Fierce Deity mask, so _when_ you need to heal, not if, you could have the four masks spawn at the Majora's Wrath part on four different hard to reach places, only accessible and defeatable by certain masks or combos of masks, all the while avoiding Majora's long range whip attacks. Or you could have it so you can only harm Majora at all even with the Fierce Deity mask after attacking and defeating one of the other masks, which in turn can't be damaged by Fierce Deity, forcing you to mix and match mask combos and items and the like. That would also make the arena a bit more fun, huge spiralling staircases and platforms and things.
What? The fight would still be over in a couple of minutes. Just don't bother using FD. Besides, its a Zelda boss. There have only been a small amount of bosses that were challenging or difficult. And most of those were designed by Capcom. i.e. Gleeok, Original Ganon, Rebonack, Thunderbird, Vaati, Sham-rok, Genie, Oracles Manhandla, the flying Stingrays. Most Zelda bosses are sadly, cake. :(
@NightmareX7 The flinging move is actually two attacks at once. If you're too close, he will just hit you. And if you're too far away but still in hitting range, he will hit you as well. If you're in the middle though, he is going to wrap around you, and toss you. And then possibly again. And maybe again after that. And maybe one more time after that...
I really wished this boss was harder. It never gets a chance to showcase it’s interesting attacks because it dies so quickly. I like this video because it shows it all
what I find fascinating is the difference of emotional tones from majora and ganon. ganon was in agony and filled with hatred. he was in unimaginable distress and excruciating pain throughout that brutal battle in OoT. the music portrayed the sense of broken agony and anguish of both link and ganon(dorf). ganon was evil but he had a good reason. and his mind and body were crying out in anguish because he could not control his agony and anguish thus turning him Into ganon. but majora is different. were ganon was suffering in emotional (and physical) agony, majora has no emotions. the moodhere is a sense of nihilistic insanity and pure evil. the pain is gone, only to be replaced with fear!!!
According to the backstory, Majora used to be a playful god who fell, because it apparently consumed greedy humans who were trying to kill it to grant their wishes (this is where the whole "wish" backstory of the mask came from). But in doing so, after consuming so much greed, it became greedy itself, and began to consume everything, until the original world it came from had nothing left. Until some adventure came around and sealed the embodiment of Majora into the mask and it was locked away until the Happy Mask Salesman came around. The whole greed and playful aspect of Majora is evident with the fact the moon wants to "Consume everything" and even in the boss fight, the Mask is just floating or running around (quite literally), toying with you, and taunting you until the final phase. And even then, the final phase has those top... things. Which in a way can even resemble a playful toy. Majora will also still take moments to even taunt Link, waiting for him to get close, or dodge when you try to shoot an arrow at it when it's doing so.
Majora’s incarnation is like a good FGC player that messes with and taunts some random dude they never seen and then he morphs into Majora’s Wrath when he realizes “Oh s*it, this random guy is actually pretty good” lol
...Tell me about it.... x.x I literally began laughing out loud both at the odds and at the complete utter cheapness of it all. Out of the like, 20 different attacks he knows in stage 2 of his final form, there's only a 5% chance for him to use it each of the 5 times he did.
In all seriousness; it's an anagram for the entire mask just toying with Link for literally the entire game. From the time it stole Epona and his Ocarina from him to the very last form when it finally decides to get serious. Even dropping the moon in three days is a game to it.
You should! The boss is intentionally designed to be able to be combated in multiple ways, even with various forms, despite the suggestions Tatl gives you.
I see very few people trying to beat Majora's Wrath only with sword and shield. In the first place, I wonder how many people know they can do that. Thanks a lot.
I actually beat the final boss without anything on my c-stick whatsoever. I went to the kid wearing twinmold’s mask on the moon, sold him 4 masks and left his minigame, so I had nothing on my c-stick. I challenged myself to beat majoras wrath without putting anything on any of my c-buttons throughout the entire fight (including bottles) so my items were blank through the entire fight and all damage I felt to majora was don’t with my sword. It was actually super difficult but I’m glad I did it.
To me.. that whip-flinging link is canon. Considering how powerful majora is, she/he would torture link like that. Showing that there is no hope for the poor boy. majora's wrath shows no mercy, and does not play fair. If only she/he could whip away your health potions... that would be awesome.
The entire journey inside Termina is full of hopeless, really. It's the entire theme of the game. Between the poison swamp, where everything is dying, the harsh blizzard in the mountains where nothing can live, the ocean where nothing can be born, and the canyon where the undead cannot rest. Then of course there's the moon, showing the unstoppable impending doom wherever you go looming up above. The final battle against a mere mortal 11-year-old boy against a literal god is nothing but hopeless under normal circumstances.
@deoxys2deffense I'll be honest, I had burst out laughing for a good 10 seconds when he just went left and tripped into the wall. I was like "What the hell are you doing, Majora?" That's why I stood there just defending for a good 25 seconds; had to regain my composure. If making me lose my concentration was it's plan, it sure worked for a good while!
This shit is literally drugs 3:38 Imagine having a really bad trip in your house just looking at a Halloween Mask or something? *WHAT IS HAPPENING!?!?*
I'm watching this to pick up some strats on fighting Majora maskless without damage so I can maybe try to get the achievement for it at Retro Achievements. I'm almost done with the 3 heart challenge achievement and want my 3 heart Majora attempt to be flawless if possible. I doubt I'll ever get it since I tend to suck at doing damageless boss fights in 3d Zelda games or 3d games in general. I still have to also get a damageless & maskless Twinmold achievement which I have no clue how to go about with how wild Twinmold is and how fast he/they move.
I'm definitely not an expert at this game, but I can say that even though Majora can hit you while rolling, it does negate the damage you take even if it looks like you take damage via being knocked down. Of course, that doesn't stop Majora from hitting you again while you are knocked down, but it's better than just taking damage initially if for some reason you can't block an attack. Of course, there's the infamous exploit of being able to just kill Majora from 100 to 0 on both its second and third forms by just timing single swing strikes to make Majora re-flinch and still take damage. You should check out some speed runs for that. Just look for their endings. It's something anyone can do. All you need is good timing. Of course, this is obviously an exploit and is something I opted *not* to do in this video. Thankfully I don't believe this works in the 3DS version, or it's at least far more difficult to pull off. As for Twinmold, assuming you mean this version of the game and not the 3DS version, just use your bows and arrows. It's the easiest and quickest way to defeat them, and the only way if you want to go maskless. Considering how small you are making it impossible to really dodge, their random movements is going to play a part. Sometimes they'll probably just hit you in the time frame it takes to beat them even if your aim and timing between shots is perfect; but most of the time you should be fine.
Thanks for the info & this video as well since it's been helpful so far. I actually just recently beat Twinmold using the fire & ice arrows on the blue & red Twinmolds respectively & was surprised I was able to kill them before I took a hit, which I thankfully avoided. So the only achievements I have left are beating Majora maskless without damage and the 6 day challenge where we are only allowed to use the song of time once.
I watched a video where a speedrunner uses a stunlock on the 3rd form (Majora's Wrath) using the light arrows to get an initial stun and then stunlocks him with a duck stab using the shield & stab buttons. The problem is I haven't been able to do it myself no matter how many times I tried. In the video I watched the player quickly equipped the Deku Mask from the item screen and without ever using it replaced it with light arrows before shooting the light arrow. I'm not sure if that's part of the strategy. I'll try a few more times and if I can't get it I'll just give up since it's gotten too frustrating. It really sucks how he can grab you with his tentacle whips even with your shield up, otherwise I may have gotten it by now without any stunlock strat.
You don't need to use the light arrows at all. Any hit to just get the initial stun on Majora will work. The duck stab is usually best for the stun lock method, mostly because it's the fastest attack in the game but still does the same amount of damage, but it also keeps Link in place, as most swings usually move you gently forward, meaning you don't have to re-position him every time. As for Majora being able to grab you, if you're too close, or too far, the grab attack won't grab and will be a sort of "thrust" attack (it will just knock you down and deal damage) and it becomes block-able with the shield. But if you're in-between those two in a sweet spot, the attack will grab and fling you. You're supposed to use Zora form to defend yourself against it, but since that's mask-less, that's not an option. So the only method of defense you'd have is notching an arrow into the bow and releasing it right before the grab confirms, and the arrow hitting it during the animation which would force it to let go. The problem is that you also need the shield up most of the time no matter what, which doesn't give you enough time to notch an arrow and fire it. It depends on which attacks you're trying to avoid. In general though, I'd recommend simply *not* being in that "sweet spot" that allows Majora to grab you. Preferably, always be too close to be grabbed. IF Majora moves too far away and you can't cover the distance in time to be too close, then just back off and turtle up -- there's very little it can do to harm you with the shield up when you're far away. Most of the attacks won't even hit you. Sometimes Majora will move around and approach slightly, but not too close, but stay back until an opportunity presents itself (don't stand too far back though -- just back enough as you need to avoid being grabbed). When Majora tries to taunt you to beckon you to get closer and you're far away to avoid the grab feel free to take it. Majora never attacks during this animation and it's a free opportunity to get close. However Majora will always dodge any attack in front of it when doing this and if you're up close, will jump far away -- so do not try to shoot it. I find that getting very close and rolling between its legs when it's doing this animation and doing a quick swing of the sword will provide free damage, as Majora doesn't jump away if you manage to get behind it. It does turn around quickly though, so you have to do the maneuver fast. For the record, it should also be noted that Majora will not attempt the grab attack until 1/3rd of its health is down. After that much health is down, it will add the "grab attack" and the "rapid flailing" attack to its patterns. Once it's down 2/3rds of its health, it will usually position itself further away, and create those exploding spinning tops that roam around and home in on you. At this point, it's best to have the bow out (in hand but not notched with an arrow, keep your shield up), as those tops are devastatingly hard to keep track of when needing to face Majora at all times, and will more than likely hit you. Shooting arrows will stop Majora from creating those tops and flooding the field with them. Having the bow already in hand slightly reduces the time it takes to lower the shield, and release an arrow. All that said, you can ignore all of this if you just do the stun lock exploit, but as I said, I feel that cheapens the experience, especially since Majora was deliberately designed for all sorts of challenge runs with all the forms. No damage is no exception.
Thanks for all the info. I'll have to figure out where that sweet spot is. Every time I tried the stunlock, I got 1 duckstab in and Majora just jumped away before I could get a 2nd. I tried another strat that I was thinking about where I bought 40 bombchus before going to the Moon and stayed far away from Majora and after stunning it with a light arrow I released a bombchu after holding it for 2-3 flashes and it forced Majora to jump closer to me where I was able to stun him/it with another light arrow and then get a jump strike with the fairy sword. I did this a bunch of times and got to the point where Majora started releasing the spinning spike tops but I eventually got hit from not having my shield up where I got whipped. I was trying to stun Majora from releasing more tops but failed. Getting through that last phase of Majora's Wrath without damage is going to take a lot of luck for me. I just wish I could consistently get to Majora's Wrath damageless.
i should really try this next time i fight him. maybe ill use arrows or something, since SnS alone seems a bit tedious, but this seems a lot more fun than fierce deity spam.
Wow. I did several Normal Link runs, and this video is the first time I've ever seen that "flinging" move used. That's funny, actually, because he loved using on you.
It isn't fun being thrown 5 times in a row and losing 25% of your health, either. >.o I have to admit though I was laughing after that. But mostly because it's a bit of a broken mechanic.
Thanks a lot. It is nice having a video where you can actually look at the boss' AI since most videos just show them being raped with OP equipment/stunlocks. I'm guessing you would have finished it quicker if you dominated the quick spin back then, but can't really blame you as that thing is hard to do even on a real N64 controller.
Majora's AI of picking Link up and throwing him 5 times in a row? :P In all seriousness, if I really wanted to end it quickly, it wouldn't be with spin-slashing but the whole invulnerability frame abuse, where if you time it properly, you can permalock bosses in place with just normal slashes. Basically what the speedrunners use. The time period isn't gracious but it's more than doable.
props to the people who did the physics on Majora's tentacles
Do you mean the whips at the end or the tentacles at the start
@@dungeonlord1 I think they are basically the same 3d asset, they behave similarly.

Ive never seen a fight without the fierce diety vs majoras wrath until now. Its a brutal fight!
It is a lot more fun without the mask. (Aka I can't get past the goron challenge. So I've fought him without it.)
i didn't get the fierce deity mask before i fought majora. i used arrows for the most part. it wasn't easy but it was still doable.
It really isn't that hard of a fight

It was still a much more immersing experience. I handled majora the same way.. the frustrating nostalgia was nice.
Sairek Ceareste I also added the extra stress of heavily integrating the deku mask. I had many sighs.
Sairek Ceareste
I agree...
Heh... Well, I suppose that's up to you. Would you do it on the 3DS version next time?
GrahamChapman
I have the 3DS version, but no way to capture my 3DS screen.
Sairek Ceareste
Recording could pose a problem, true.
7:25 this is like when you and your friend/sibling/cousin plays a fighting game with you and keeps spamming the same move successfully
I forgot just how *vicious* Wrath is. If you couldn't just sit behind your shield or have invulnerability frames after being knocked over for many of its attacks, it'd be a *Bloodborne* boss.
7:26 OMG CAN YOU GIVE HIM A CHANCE?
Majora:
"...gettin' real tired of that shield shit, Link >:c"
+Fleece Manjenkins
; o;
At least he didn't throw me outside of the arena like he sometimes can do.
Sairek Ceareste .-. He can do that?
Fleece Manjenkins
Yes.
Sairek Ceareste Welp, time to try that out! :D
Thanks :)
That flinging combo was glorious... I think what caused it is that Majoras wrath flings you when you are at a far range, and it happened to be in the middle of the map and.... only when it jumped to a particular side did the wombo combo end
I didn't think it was possible for Majora's Incarnation to trip and fall without even doing anything to it. 3:56
Wow, never seen Majora fling anyone around THAT much!
He's done much worse to me. Flung me so many times in a row that I was outside of the walls of the map and he was _still_ flinging me around (there's a sweet spot where if you get thrown in the right place, Link will "jump" through the wall automatically). I think he did the attack thirteen times in a row, which of course took up 13 of 20 hearts.
oh wow. O.o

*Technically* speaking, Majora is gender-less.
This kids, is why you use fierce deity link!

Regardless of what origin the mask is born in, it will always remain a hexing mask with terrifying potential, power, and origin. Whether it be made from the armour of a beast who is revered as a monster to people, or a ritualistic mask of unimaginable evil, it will always remain terrifying.
@Frostfire40
The highest amount of flings I got him to do in a row was literally 9 flings; the only reason he stopped I think was because the 9th fling literally had me thrown through the wall and out of bounds; which the boss battle has a fail-safe for the player to teleport to the middle of the arena if that happens.

wow even while just using sword and shield you were way better prepared than I was.

When the masks are gone, target majoras with her own laser using your shield till she turns herself into Michel Jackson's incarnation (I'm joking, but the moonwalking is awesome :D)
3: During the majoras incarnation, you just need to target her and throw arrows while she's dancing (watch out when she start to throw the bubbles). Whenever you hit an arrow, run to her and attack with your sword. Need to do this a few times till she turn into Majora's Wrath
4: When she turn into Majora's wrath put your Zora's mask (which will make your battle waaaaaay easier) and protect yourself with the eletric barrier (hope you had the romani chateau for unlimited magic) and get close enough for attacking her. Seriously, this is the best and easier way for killing her, once you have unlimited magic and you can do some harm with the eletric barrier, avoiding her annoying attacks...
Hope I could help you, it took me a morning, but I finished the bitch :D

That kick animation tho... This is by far my favorite Zelda boss battle.
Sairek, Thank you for letting the boss do things instead of kill him right away. I want to see what the boss actually do as a game reference
Sairek Ceareste
There's a bunch of ways around that from a design point of view - you can't heal in the Fierce Deity mask, so _when_ you need to heal, not if, you could have the four masks spawn at the Majora's Wrath part on four different hard to reach places, only accessible and defeatable by certain masks or combos of masks, all the while avoiding Majora's long range whip attacks.
And maybe one more time after that...
man majora's incarnation really does just have an emote wheel doesn't it
7:25 I've never seen this happen before.
Majora’s incarnation is like a good FGC player that messes with and taunts some random dude they never seen and then he morphs into Majora’s Wrath when he realizes “Oh s*it, this random guy is actually pretty good” lol
...Tell me about it.... x.x
I literally began laughing out loud both at the odds and at the complete utter cheapness of it all.
I forgot how creepy the last two battles were goosh
This has to be one of the hardest bosses if you use regular link
Yknow, I breezed through this fight with the fierce deity mask like many others have, but watching this has given me courage to give this a shot
You should! The boss is intentionally designed to be able to be combated in multiple ways, even with various forms, despite the suggestions Tatl gives you.
I see very few people trying to beat Majora's Wrath only with sword and shield. In the first place, I wonder how many people know they can do that. Thanks a lot.

Never knew Majora could trip and fall 😂
I did this as a kid...
With cheats...:)
I will try without soon!
Or use fierce deity
@@RealMysticalMan The purpose of doing it like this is to make the fight harder.
@@Thirteen13551355 yeah I guess
I fight with him without the gilded sword, and without arrows
That song and screams, it giv me nightmares ._.
I've always wondered what type of whips Majora's Wrath used for a long time
To me.. that whip-flinging link is canon.
The final battle against a mere mortal 11-year-old boy against a literal god is nothing but hopeless under normal circumstances.
good
@bluemaverick007
Also does the Can-can. Fakes falling down. Does balarina (
@deoxys2deffense
I'll be honest, I had burst out laughing for a good 10 seconds when he just went left and tripped into the wall. I was like "What the hell are you doing, Majora?" That's why I stood there just defending for a good 25 seconds; had to regain my composure.
If making me lose my concentration was it's plan, it sure worked for a good while!
This in BoTW:
Your shield broke!x100
The way Majora moves is eerie
7:05 - 7:45 that's child abuse
I beat the game this way because I had no idea you could leave the moon with the song of time to get the extra masks
Hey, are you down to have your MM videos featured on a channel about gaming challenges?
I laugh on Majora’s wrath because the eyes are on hes chest 😂😂😂😂😂
7:35 This bitch caught him in mid-air, and then proceeded to tell the same kid that glitches will NOT save him from it at 7:38
This shit is literally drugs 3:38
Imagine having a really bad trip in your house just looking at a Halloween Mask or something?
*WHAT IS HAPPENING!?!?*
Wow, final stage is MERCILESS!
To be fair, that _is_ when Majora decides to stop playing "games" -- a theme that's present with the mask's behavior throughout all of the game.
Next time I fight Majora I'm fighting Majora like this. Using arrows to stun him is to damn easy and makes the final battle anticlimactic.
It isn't fun being thrown 5 times in a row and losing 25% of your health, either. >.o
I have to admit though I was laughing after that. But mostly because it's a bit of a broken mechanic.
I like majoras incarnation the best 😂😂
Great fight! I wanna try it your way. No light arrows, no deku mask. Just a good ol sword and shield.
3:41 and kids, this is what happens when you let your crazy godly overpowered mask smoke some wed
If he wraps his whip around your Zora form, you can send an electric charge up his arm
and stun/damage him.
That would defeat a sword and shield challenge, though.
In all seriousness, if I really wanted to end it quickly, it wouldn't be with spin-slashing but the whole invulnerability frame abuse, where if you time it properly, you can permalock bosses in place with just normal slashes. Basically what the speedrunners use. The time period isn't gracious but it's more than doable.
Getting all of the fairies in the first temple would have really helped the shop spin attack
light arrows are a very effective way to stun Majora for a Long Time
You do a quick spin consecutively using a keyboard as the controller, and then get back to me when you do. >=l
Do you just seem Majora incarnation moonwalk
that finish though..!! sick
I was going to say at thr wrath phase "use your bow!" But the player meant it with the "sword and shield."
Hence the name.
