The part where Athena says "You're not looking for a mentor I'm not looking for a friend, I mistook you for a general what a waste of effort spent" is a reprisal from Warrior of the Mind: "If you're looking for a mentor I'll make sure your time's well spent" and then Odysseus' bit of "bestest of friends". Also Jorge had confirmed that Odysseus' remark of "you're alone" did indeed hurt Athena.
Athena has explained her ideology to him, given how she's been training him for half his life. Her point was that as a general he should be making choices that completely remove risk from him and his comrades, such as killing the Cyclops, even though they might not make him feel good (put your emotions aside - you're a warrior meant to lead the rest). It's not that she's not explaining herself, it's that she's here to tell him that she's upset that he'd ignore her multiple warnings and break it up. For a god in Greek mythology to give you a warning once, let alone twice, and be ignored is usually grounds for pretty intense divine retribution, but Athena isn't as vengeful and decided to simply break it off permanently. Another god would've killed him, or worse.
Totally makes sense. I still got the feelings of her approach was like a parent speaking to a child which I get because she is above him in the mythos but Odysseus just wanted to learn things the hard way 😂

Even when the Trojan princess Cassandra (the aunt of the infant who got thrown by Odysseus) got SA in her temple by a Greek Hero, but she did pushed a young woman to hang herself because she was petty after losing a sewing competition…
@lysfranc8782 You're referring to Arachne, who became the first spider after Athena cursed her. Her second and more popular victim was Medusa. She was SA'd in her temple by Posidon, and instead of going after him Athena took it out on Medusa by Turning her into a Gorgon. A lot of people have said that it was for her protection but I immediately point to clash of the titans. If it was she never would have been killed and her head wouldn't be fused to Athena's shield like a trophy. Sorry for the long response lol
Has she tho? Has she explained why, or just how? Because, from the musical, she has trained him on all the technical stuff, how to fight and optimize his mind. But has she really taken the time to sit down and explain why he should ALWAYS kill (outside of killing the enemy being a warrior's pride)? Because Odysseus was not thoughtless when he made the decision to not kill, he was Nobody and no one would be able to chase him and his crew. He fucked up big time when he doxxed himself, but before that, he was good to go. It seems he has been following Athena's teachings until Polites put another perspective into his mind. To be kinder. If she really taught him her ideology, he switched up on it quite easily- as soon as he got the chance. And that is after 10 years or so of following her teachings in war. And to be honest, what would have happened if he went back for the kill? It's not easy to quickly and silently kill something so huge, and they know there are more Cyclops in that cave...
In greek mythology, the gods tend to see humans only as a means of entertainment. Sure some have their favorites but being favored wasnt always a good thing. So its very believable that Athena never considered Oddys feelings because from her godly perspective, they dont matter. Athena doesnt like being challenged or betrayed.
Yeah gods don’t think like people. She’s so confused why he’s being so emotional since humans die all the time. She and he really don’t see eye to eye. He spent all this time thinking she was his friend and she thought herself his mentor.
Also I don't know if it was super obvious, but at the end there's a callback to one of the first songs "just a man" with the same melody too. That shit hit so hard.

I LOVED your reactions to this videos, and great decision to make them all at once the videos. The next saga isn't really necessary to do all at once but u might forget some context for some songs if u don't from one song to the next. You also said that "remember them" was your favorite, but personally I find "my goodbye" as the best as it's the most emotional one and also I just love Athena (yes it's Athena and yes she can pause time). IDK if you noticed but the guy who sang "open arms" died in "survive" and he was Odysseus best friend so this will affect him deeply in the future as he kinda represented hope among the crew. One last thing and idk if u simply didn't noticed or just decided not to comment on it but when Odysseus told the cyclops that his name is nobody, it was to trick him for a safeguard to not reveal his name, but he threw it away and told the cyclops his name anyway which is part of the reason Athena was furious at him for as she has in her opinion taught him better than that.
