One of, if not the best Military Aircraft built. I am Phantom Phyxer of almost 20 years. It's a tough old bird. Phantoms Forever.
EJなれば武装も可能とのことですが、基本的には闘わない機体。
しかしながら、シャークマウスにグリーンの迷彩塗装の出で立ちは F-4EJ改に引けを取らない勇壮さを醸し出します。
戦闘機由来の力強く颯爽とした飛行や銀塩写真のフィルムをあしらったマーキングのセンス、
そして聞くところによるとキャッチフレーズは「見敵必撮」なのだとか。
501飛行隊の士気の高さが窺えますね。
戦闘機部隊よりも一般には目立たなかったかも知れませんが、
ずっと記憶にとどめておきたい飛行機＆飛行隊ですね。

元々 戦闘機パイロットだった人達が殆どだったと聞きました。
無課金おじさんの様なかっこよさをもつパイロット揃いでした。
なぜか基地内の綱引き大会でいつも優勝していたらしいです。

以前宮城の松島基地近くに住んでおりましたので、航空自衛隊には親近感があります。

It is so surreal to see them still flying in 2020.. I grew up an Air Force Brat and I remember them being replaced when a new wing of F-16s came to Homestead AFB. One of the first F-4's to go was one that had 4 MIG Kills. A F-4 was lost that had 2 kills on it and the Air Force Ordered it to the Air Force Academy after that.

Awesome Sunday. It’s sexy from any angle you look at. Thanks for showing more of the undercarriage in this video. Can you do a video of you and your team with the F4? I am sure you do have a story of passion you could share with us. Also, maybe some history of the squadron, the people, the base and how did they manage to keep this fleet of F4 to be in super condition. There will always be the story of human hearts behind every legend that is kept alive.

I can almost smell the jet fumes through the screen ! This lovely surprise popped up in my recommendations, and hit me right in the gut. I was an air frame engineer on Kurnass ( Israel Air Force Phantoms ), B-Check hanger. I must have spent hundreds of hours working on them. Miss it soooo much :-(

9:39 That camera angle is the exact view us ground crew had when the squadron was flying operations. Breaks on, full power, release, then afterburners. The noise of 2 J79's from that angle hits you in the chest. 9+ Ton external payload delivery trucks with wings.

F16's over F4's?I dont think so.
I was in the first AF unit to get the F-4 at MacDill in '63 at the same time I was fighting to get reassigned back to Japan. I won that battle and got assigned to Misawa, back to the Huns I had been working on at Itazuke in '60. The Big Fire notwithstanding, one of my fondest memories of Misawa was kicking some First Radio ass when they needed it.
You just made tail #380 the most collectable F-4. Good Eye :)

Is the loadout at 2:41 typical?; two sidewinders[harms?] and a cannon {or is that n infra-red pod?]..plus the drop tanks and recce pods..? not very good on my hardware ID i'm afraid.. Seem to be a lot of missions to fly, not surprised. Any more loadout details?
The main mission of RF-4EJ was reconnaissance.
It had Vulcan cannons and missile loading capabilities, but most had only a reconnaissance pod and a drop tank.

God those phantoms are so beautiful, I wonder why those Japanese pilots slam them down so hard on landing though.
Designed for carrier ops. Thats the right profile for landing - got to present the hook to the wires, even if its a field. You will notice Hornets flown the same way.
@@johnmclean6498 US Navy, Marines, Air Force used Phantoms . These are Japanese licensed copies built by Mitsubishi.
It seems like they are practicing a Navy Type landing, with that neg AoA, she can take much harder hits than these guys are giving her , depends on weights, runway lengths winds, and if it's a student .. the aircraft has blown surfaces, that may get damaged in combat, etc, so I'm sure they train to land fast and hard in case , could just be a heavy fuel load.. cant butter it every time , plus i think the navy versions are heavier and strong than the a/f phantoms.. so the USAF guys "drive" em onto the runway..export version are usually the most robust for budget reasons.. (f18, vs Fa 18)
Watched the USAF land them like this for 2 1/2yrs. At Homestead AFB and Udorn RTAFB 69-71 worked in engine shop J-79-17and -15

How are these RF-4's? They look like regular F-4EJ's equipped with some kind of special centerline pod.
You noticed a good thing.
These are not RF-4E. These are RF-4EJ modified from F4-EJ which are only in Japan.
What is that pod underneath the belly?
RF-4EJ is a reconnaissance aircraft made by modifying a fighter.
There is a camera in the center pod.
Beautiful legendary fighter and I want it to remain operational for many more decades instead of wasting more money on that useless f35 that is too obsolete and expensive, and the same is true for Greece.

Awesome beautiful aircraft . You can't beat the good old classic. USA always knew how to build a beautiful sexy sleek aircraft. The one thing about the US is we always look good dropping bombs are dog fighting . Didn't really matter. And to see this sexy plane still flying , is just awesome great. 😁👍😘
