- Quiet Generators and how to make a generator quieter. There are certain things you will need to avoid! Building your own DIY generator enclosure or generator quiet box can be tricky and you need to do it right.
Here is one method to avoid while quieting a loud generator because the consequences could be bad!
I've seen a couple of youtube videos that suggest placing wood or drywall directly against the generator and that will either make the generator overheat or fill up the area with carbon monoxide. Luckily some new generators on the market had a CO2 detector to avoid a build-up of gas.

Carbon monoxide is the danger, not carbon dioxide
Oh really, did you ever try to breath only carbon dioxide? Yes , you will die. Yes carbon monoxide is worse.and you also will die.
I have an EU22i, which is a very quiet unit. However I wanted something to waterproof it for use in rain. I bought a £9 storage box that fits over it tightly and cut a rectangle out on the side with the exhaust. Not only is it now waterproof but it doesn't overheat and the noise is reduced. When not in use I put a masonry bag over the container shell that fits it perfectly as a cover. You can spend a fortune on this stuff if you really want to but with experimentation you can do it on the cheap. Been using this setup without issue for 3 years.

You literally just showed the same technique. Stacking wood around it. Just like the "popular" vids on TH-cam. *Shrug
This was helpful for a older woman that I am who cant build a box..plywood will have to do for now.
Putting the plywood on top should increase the heat.
If you build an A-frame make sure there is a significant gap at the top. Heat rises.
Ive seen heat from a boxed in gererator burn out the voltage regulator in 1 hour, a guy had his powering a food truck and tried to quite the generator but only ened up costing him money

When placing the wood, angle downward toward the ground to reduce sound bouncing toward your house.

Portable generators don't have "CO2" (carbon dioxide) detectors. You probably meant "CO" (carbon monoxide) detector, which some of the newer ones do have.

Actually the generator will automatically stop if the fresh air is not enough for combustion.
@@vampier001 Humans are a lot more sensitive than that. An engine would likely still be running long after the environment has become too toxic for humans (or animals) to breathe. CO is also flammable and with enough concentration, may combust.
I have Hyundai HGS3500 (company claims its 76db) practically its loud enough that we can run it more than half hour. I can place on roof or in staircase. Please suggest what should I do? Or may be doing a little modification in muffler etc
Uhm, yeah. Pretty much EVERY video of people building a geny enclosure have air inlets and FANS moving air in/out of the box as well as the exhaust extended out of the box. Who is leaning pieces of plywood against their generator and calling it a day?
No one. In the original video he thumbnails the guy was simply demonstrating that the most effective way to quiet a genset is to enclose it.

Recently saw another video on this. The angle of the sides was very different, and non-farmable material was used. Seem like poster is gripping. Angle matters
I have yet to see anybody build what seems obvious to me. Stack hollow core cinder blocks one course higher than the genset and backfill the voids with dirt.

my generator is in a brick shed with a pipe going through the wall into a 25 litre tub of water. the water cuts the exhaust sound to almost nothing

You mean CO gas not CO2 gas. CO2 is what you breath out and what is in your fire extinguisher what is in dry ice etc. CO is carbon monoxide and is the result of incomplete combustion and is poisonous. Too important to get wrong in a sort of safety advice video.
