Midsummer is a rather new festival here in Jämtland and I've personally never been to one since it wasn't celebrated in the area where I grew up when I was a kid in the 80's and 90's (I mean as a festival, it was just a day off for working people) and my parents had never celebrated it (it didn't exist in rural Jämtland when they were kids) so we didn't go to Jamtli in the city. This is what Bo Oscarsson writes about it (Google translated): "The Midsummer Eve that we now celebrate in Jamtland is a Swedish event, which in the cultural districts is hardly older than 50 years [counted from 2005, my note]. I remember from Aspås that the first midsummer pole was erected in the early 1960s. Of course, midsummer poles had been erected before in Swedish-dominated areas such as at Jamtli in the Östersund. Those who were born in the 1960s or later, surely think that the current midsummer celebration is ancient here in Jamtland." Instead we used to celebrated the christian St John's Day even though we don't really know the details (hardly a maypole, probably more like a bonfire like in Norway).
Thanks for the precisations , we learned that later on,but having 3 of the four people in the video being vegetarian we opted for meatballs (since there are vegetarian meatballs but no vegetarian herring )😂
Very nice video but your channel will get more subscribers and views if you optimize the title description and tags as per youtube guidelines.I think your channel deserves more views and subscribers so you should act fast.❤❤❤

Woow! Super interesting I would have never expected it! Do you know how long has it been celebrated in the south ?
Seems you had fun. Hopefully we will see you having a "kräftskiva! " (med svenska snapsvisor!)

Meatballs are not typical midsummerfood in Sweden. We eat herring and new potatoes.

Might interest you that grodorna is really chanson de l'oignon. The Swedish text probably made fun of the French.
Yeah i heard about it!🤣 Crazy!
