@@maurihaapalainen9207considering it's Touhou I doubt it would undermine anything since, both Mima and Marisa were friendly towards Reimu since the beginning, even in the games when she's the villain, in fact her favorite activity was enjoying teasing the Shrine maiden, also when Marisa decided to train, Reimu was the obvious choice for a partner, I think Mima was instrumental in Reimu becoming friends with Marisa, since Marisa might had started their relationship by first harassing Reimu in order to score some points with her master, but eventually along with her master grown quite fond of Reimu, alongside Yuka and few other Yokai's, even if Mima was the master criminal that was eventually sealed by Yukari, I doubt she would have considered a child Reimu as her greatest enemy and in fact Reimu could also end up un intentionally changing Mima's heart, it is possible for her to example end up being reformed just because of Reimu's and Marisa's influence, I think this could be fundamental because Marisa who willingly became her servant would put her unwillingly in a position of caring about someone else besides having a huge grudge towards humanity, and Reimu would extend that influence if by little making her slowly shift her focus, which might also be what brought her to die as a vengeful spirit, or if they intend to really bring her back in Cheating Satori detective it might turn out that the reason she escaped from hell was because her nature begun slowly shifting and she might end up becoming a phantom to surprise of everyone, just by finally interacting with Reimu and remembering how she loved harassing the silly shrine maiden, which could shock everyone, I think this is why the vengeful spirit of the story was able to posses Marisa so easily but it's only once Satori exposes her and her own memory that unexpected memories will come to play until she chooses to finally abandon her grudge as the only reason she wanted to escape her fate was to harass that shrine maiden, a good indication of how much unwittingly of an effect Reimu has on different types of beings are the fairies of the Hakurei Shrine, who literally moved there just to be closer with her (and according to ZUN's description that's enough of a change and anomaly in the pattern of their behavior that it even warrants freaking Yukari being worried by their sudden change so much, that she needed to test them herself, another example is the Komainu who was literally born out of Reimu's aura alone!! And only given form by Okina, just because the freaking divine energies wanted at some point to interact with the Shrine Maiden and Marisa) I don't think that Marisa being a prodigy of Mima would affect her in any way, that's because I believe that it would finally bring Marisa's own skills acknowledgement from her former master and besides Mima's presence wouldn't change anything much since both are their own things, but could allow for giving Marisa a mentor she lacked story wise, as both of the other "human" characters seem to be given a mentoring figure in the form of Kasen Ibaraki for Reimu and Kanako for Sanae, Mima would story wise full the same role with Marisa, not necessarily undermining everything what she became on her own, so basically Mima's presence isn't the thing that undermines Marisa's relationship towards anyone, in fact without Mima, Marisa wouldn't most likely be pulled into that world in the first place and wouldn't meet Reimu Hakurei at all, instead ending up being just your regular village girl, running the Kirisame shop, which would deprive Reimu of her most vital relationship, so in an essence as much as Mima's fate might have been shaped by modern Reimu's influence, she's actually herself one of the catalysts that lead to that very influence emerging, which is why Mima's return and joining the ranks of the modern characters lore adds up a satisfying closure to that part of the story and ties the past and presence, while also show casing how the characters constantly grow and reshape the world around them, even if Reimu, Marisa and Mima herself won't realize that, the idea shouldn't be about giving an end but just show how important of a heroine Reimu is in the end, how important she is for both the human and Yokai characters, even if in comical twist she's the only one who fails to see or understand, that she alone is the blessing of the Hakurei shrine. Basically Mima might have ended up taking Marisa into her care, solely because she wanted to antagonize Reimu Hakurei with a girl identical to her, in the process starting to understand humans and slowly being in the process of abandoning her grudge because of Marisa's influence, and because of this eventually befriending Reimu herself and unwittingly building a bond of friendship between her pupil and Reimu herself, and this might actually in turn to be revealed as the cause of why she eventually was able to escape hell, or the Hellish prison she was eventually sent into (because her negative karma was eventually all but burned out and were no longer enough to keep her in the first place there, hence it might not even be Satori's failure in the end, so it is possible that once Mima is done with harassing Reimu in some comical fashion this in turn would in another comical twist lead to all her negative karma being burned out and her evolution into just your regular phantom, whose only purpose is to hunt the Shrine grounds and not cause harm to anyone )
This is definitely...
MIMA'S THEME IN ARCSYS FIGHTING GAME
Fan games and dojins will keep her powerful for years to come. The only true death in Gensokiyo is being forgotten.
WE NEED HER BACK! WE MUST HAVE HER BACK!
ZUN: Doesn't bring Mima back
Fans: Fine, I'll do it myself
Mima is definitely an important character in Touhou lore, so I don't know why ZUN avoids bringing her back
its because Marisa is Mimas prodigy, if Zun brough Mima back for modern touhou game its same than underminding everything that Marisa has become
