Finally a video about adults! Every time I try to find out more about my SPD I only get stuff for kids.

We need more resources in Minnesota!! I keep getting passed by as "I'm just making it up in my mind". I have severe misophonia but I have SPD around clothing - my twin sister has the same issues as me. We cannot deal with bras, tight clothing, clothing that are tight or don't give movement in the legs/arms. It drives us NUTS. We always have to wear baggy or loose clothes and it's so frustrating to deal with!! Every resource I see is strictly for children. It's almost like no one really realizes that adults are dealing with this. We need resources too!!

I live in MN and am just starting to look for resources for this. Thank goodness my therapist identified my sensory issues.

I am 40 and have had this my whole life. For some reason around high school it went away and then came back. My parents always got so upset and couldn’t understand. I now have a child with SPD. I am able to understand and help her. I will wear all of her tiny clothes and stretch them out or seam rip any elastic waist bands to make them loose. Tape any seams with medical tape. All the things I do for myself. I use adhesive bras from Nubra. They are way more comfortable. Also using a steamer to soften clothing or sheets. I hope this helps!

Makes me want to pursue a career in it. Your description is right on. I've worn shorts often since a child, year round in east coast weather to maintain calmness. I need free legs & a draft at ALL times.

It’s like people think kids with SPD will just grow out if it. Nope, we become adults and our brains are still the same. We still have SPD!
      We definitely need more resources.

Isolating yes!!!! it is very isolating as an adult, I find it so hard to connect with others and my adult daughter also has SPD and our relationship is threatened by SPD

I often have to section off a part of the house to myself which isn't easy since I live with my parents at the moment. But whenever someone sits down next to me without warning or enters that space I feel overwhelmed and irritated. This applies especially in the morning. I need everything to be quiet and have a hard time being around anyone. Groggy morning voices sound really annoying for some reason. I'm also very distant. Happiness also feels a bit daunting or extreme as well.

I always felt different from the rest, I am in my 3o s and after I had my son, I seen him different and me and my husband had a hard time with our son and I tried to figure it out what might be the issue because it looked like ADHD but I knew it wasn't, so reading I discovered this conditions where I do fit and my son fit as well, my son helped me discover my problem, what a blessing because withouth having him, I would have never searched this and identify with this ilness or whatever it is.

YES!! It sux they everything is about children children 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ we were children and become adults .. all the children now will become adults .. we’re only children for 18 years 🙄. Thank you two for being sensitive to adults that have had to go under the radar and now suffering greatly. I’m autistic and am suffering now as I was not allowed to be diagnosed as a child as there was “nothing wrong with me”. I understand why that happened to me back then but now I’m suffering

What's scares me the most is my father, grandfather, and aunt all has this and all of their spouses despised them. I can tell my fiancé is tired of me as well... it's heartbreaking to be aware that your condition drives people away.

I am getting tested for autism and sensory processing disorder now I pretty much have to wear sunglasses all the time and I even got noise canceling headphones earbuds actually to wear for blocking out sound when I gets to be too much I have to wear stuff that is very soft and clothing and I also have a weighted blanket that really helps me to be able to sleep very good I also have several other mental health disorders first one is borderline personality disorder bipolar to PTSD generalized anxiety disorder dissociative identity disorder and major depressive disorder and having sensory processing disorder and possibly autism on top of those that’s really difficult to deal with I even had to quit a job some years ago because I got frustrated and the lights and noise was getting to me and I didn’t even realize I was having a meltdown from sensory processing problems but now I look back on it and I realize that I was really having a problem with it and it’s difficult for me to to go out without getting extremely nervous tense irritable and that you throw fluorescent lights and all that into the mix and it becomes to the point where or when I get back from appointments I have to sleep in order to get all of it off of my head because I get major major headaches they usually go into being migraine my entire situation and I still don’t have a job I never will have a job because it’s difficult for me to go outside the house in general what job I do have with my wife is a disability consultants independent and we have done several things already with that job because of COVID-19 or job can disappeared and sometimes when the headaches get so bad and the sound and light gets so bad I get very nauseous so I just thought I would share this with everyone on here and I wish I could just get this to go away on a permanent level but unfortunately I know it never will because I see a psychiatrist and a therapist I get medication’s for all of my disorders that I have

Wow, i just got through the "feeling misserable" because of this. I used to have huge anxiety to travel to uni using the subway or bus because of the noise, I can't visit my mom because she is a loud talker...
At highschool (or enseñanza media in chile) I couldn't stand being on the classroom since everyone was talking. For me trying to listen a person talking when I can't is not only annoying, it gives me huge anxiety, I start feelint physical pain in my ears and then it leads to headache and a bad mood in general.
I'm trying to seek help since last night I painted something with nailpolish. The smell triggered me and gave me a headache and eventually led me to vomit during the night. I thought I was exaggerating.
I hage managed the "bad mood" by distracting myself, i try to tell people that I have this issue with sounds and that works fine in most of the cases. But maybe there's medication or therapy that I could use.
To which kind of doctor would you recomend going to?

We recommend that you find an occupational therapist who specializes in sensory integration. Currently, there are limited specialists who work with adults, but we have an adolescent and adult program at STAR Institute. We are also able to work with individuals using video conferencing for those who cannot attend sessions in person. Here is the link to begin our treatment process: www.spdstar.org/basic/treatment-for-adults-sensory-challenges

I just learned that I might have this disorder. I’ve been asking doctors my whole life what is wrong. It was a dr. On TicTok that had a Discussion asking people to make a mark for everything that they couldn’t handle and out of all the questions she asked if there was only one thing out of the 10, 9 bothered me Severely. Now I just have to figure out how to treat this
