This did air for the first time on November 3, 1984 on 98.7 Kiss with Jerry Young as host. The impact of this night was so strong on me at 16 that I can tell you it was 53 degrees in Central Park that night. The second most important thing that happened in 1984 was losing my virginity.
I was present in the room when this was being made it took weeks and many hours ..Albert is my 1st cuz and is mr latin rascal ..born & raised in the East River pjs..I was also the rd mgr for the group who also produced some of the best freestyle music you love today
Much respect to you Angelo as you witnessed greatness in the making first hand and to be a fly on the wall when this was going on would have been my dream come true. I know those are memories you gonna cherish forever, if only camcorders were as popular as they are now with smartphones back then to see how this was done. Does Albert still have these master tapes? He should put these out at 320kbps for download.
Angelo I've been trying to trace down a mix my cousin sent to me from NY when I lived in P.R. back in '84. It had to be done by the Latin Rascals. One part of the mix had Queen's We Will Rock You mixed in with Kraftwerk's Trans Euro Express. Also had an Eddie Murphy snippet from his comedy where he said " the ice cream man is coming!" If you know this mix please respond!
William Gonzalez....You've brought back an old memory from 1984 regarding the Eddie Murphy snippet. In 1984 l came across a pirate radio station called KISS 94 fm , but this was in London, England . I'd never heard this style of mixing before and to say that it blew my mind....well, that is a massive understatement. It was about 45 minutes of musical mixing ecstasy and snippets of Eddie Murphy's Delirious video was mixed in. It became my most prized and precious TDK cassette tape. The DJ, Colin Faver RIP used to host a show called SWEAT ATTACK every week and it was second too none in my eyes. What blissful memories you've stirred up with your comment. The DJ played this mental vinyl mix and I never had a Danny who it was.35 years +TH-cam later, it turned out to be, The Latin Rascals..
I remember taping this on cassette in 1984 I was age 10 I love the Latin rascal & chuck chill out I learn how to mix & scratch & mix listening to Chuck chill out may God bless us all those was good days real rap music 🎶 🎵 🙏 ❤️ 😀😊😊😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I'm 15 years old and I do not believe in that fake hip-hop and I love the latin rascals. All day everyday. 98.7 kiss fm had some of the best dj's on the planet!!!! Big ups to them.
I had a homeboy who was a native of NYC, and when he went home the first thing i would always ask was if he "dubbed any tapes" circa 1985! Lol Good Times, and good muzic
My and my homie was home every Friday & Saturday nights in 1984 with a fresh new tape to record the mastermixes by The Latin Rascals or Shep Pettibone (that's how I got my DJ name; Ron Sheddybone). I still have some of those cassette tapes.
Simply the best djs of the 1980s I remember recording this live as it air 🙌 God Buddha bless the Latin rascals + chuck chillout I learn how to d j because of them 1980s a good decade of good music 🎶 ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
KISS MASTERMIX.........These 2 famous d.j's Albert Cabrera and Tony Marin, The Latin Rascals mixed for 92.3 KTU before they came to my beloved 98.7 KISS. When they came on, they would bring these wicked mixes no one was doing. They were totally out of this world. Till this day I haven't heard anyone come to their level.even with the technology no one can make a mix like these 2 brothers.Since the lost of good dance music here in New York and without 98.7 KISS FM, Im sorry to say an era has died!
Wow. Not only did I have this mix, but despite not hearing it for well over 23 years I remembered and mouthed along to every single minute just now. Thanks jemiedub. Right in the feels.
It used to take me a month and over $100 to make a mix like this back in the day. We used to actually cut the open reel tape and splice it back together. For each stutter you had to record a few seconds of the song and only save one 16th note of tape. So much tape wound up on the floor that it took like five reels to make one 2 hour mix if you went crazy with the edits.
I got you. I used to turntable mix and splice like a madman on my r2r. Buying all my ampex and radioshack media. hahahah. The days and hours I spent....
You need to do a video of that shit man to show these young guys what it took back in the day to do edits like this. You guys were the era before samplers and I'm from the era of samplers where you just programmed the shit to do all that stuff. My weapons of choice back then was the Akai S900 / S950 and the S1000. I still have my S900 and S1000 in my rack. I had a conversation with one half of the latin rascals the other day and I asked him what's his DAW of choice now for all this and he says he uses logic now.
I was gonna spin up a party in Brooklyn but the girl got sick so i stood home listening to this remix and these 2 guys were Fresh.. i recorded all their 92 KTU remixes at 4:10 With Paco.. I still spin all these years..still edit sides.. i wanna get together with some djs and do it again..bring back all these memories.
To this day we still talk about how incredible the Latin Rascals were. First time hearing this, we were in Brampton and the tape was played until we memorized it
Hands down these dudes effing killed it with the mixes and the edits, no one has even come close to doing edits like this except maybe for Carlos Berrios.
WWoow!! If you didn't live it, you don't really, really, fully understand!! We created this in the parks of NYC; I was a junior in High School -16 years old up in The LQ, The Tunnel, The Underground, Harlem World, Union Square, The Fever, Red Parrot, 10/18, (Roxy), Zanzibar- Big Up to my Jersey Crew! ... Thanks for the post, and the memories!!!
Thank you so much for this, My mom is dying in the hospital right now and all I could think of when I was rocking this mix back in the day, Is how she'd be telling me to "Turn That Shit Down" Go outside and play on your cardboard...Hahaha Love he to death :) Peace
when I was real young I only had a dinky tape recorder that I would have to hold up to the radio to tape these mixes and on one of those tapes you can hear my mom screaming the same --- "turn that shit down!" sorry to hear about your moms peace
yeah, I had this Mix when I went to Basic Training at Ft. Jackson...got me through Basic!....yep Shep and the.....Latin Rascals had the Boogie Down jumpin those days!!!.....Badasssssss................................RSerious.
From 2:57 on, all the memories came back from the old mix tape I had. We never knew who the masters of the mix were and the source of the tape has its own history. .but now I know...and my god..it still rocks
OH MY GDNSS, THIS BRINGS BACK STUPID MEMORIES 🎧 The Latin Rascals & Shep Pettibone the best edit DJ of that era. I'm about to go to Alexanders to get me a new walkman and then go to Tower Records to get me a pack of 90 minute Memorex cassette tapes! CLASSIC!
Omg i remember the organs of that Run DMC song..Bad Ass mix once again for the Baddest Djs of all time!$The Latin Rascals!$$Wepaaaaaaaaaa rock.on Al an Tony !!!You guys were the best!!
So glad clips of those old mastermixes are on TH-cam. Wow. I used to listen to these as a little young gay'un gettin' ready to go out to the clubs, circa 1985. Nights these days see me often at a library, gettin' an eddication. Thanks for these everyone. Sounds of days that I look back on mostly with fondness and a little sadness, too.
Man, I lived in Columbus Ohio when t his was all created. The stop start tape mixes. My friend and I did them just to impress girls in middle school. Do you like scratch on by Malcolm McLaren and the world's famous supreme team show was always ther main of t be cut mix. We did good. Lol. But the Latin rascals were the kings. We had cable and I found a way to bypass the regional shit so I got kiss. I listened form months before I decided forgive cut mixes a try but we did it. Then we bought a shorty nicer from radio shack and a reverb. We did some great shit for 13 years old. Hip hop will never go here again. Lol
I heard this on a Japanese radio station at the time. It was so shocking that I edited and practiced the songs in the same way on twin radio cassettes. I was in elementary school.
WHOLLY $%#$!!!. Im in total shock to have come across this. The memories. Plastic Gold converted to the digital age in every sense. LR's would have never believed that one day all of that chip and chop would ultimately would end up on a thing called the internet on a "website" called youtube. It was intended for the boombox and no further than that. Thank you LR's for all the countless hours of time spent building these mixes, unfortunately it will truly be appreciated by only a few. Used to have to attach a speaker wire to the antenna and stretch it across the ceiling to get good reception to get a clear recording on the cassette!!! Literally in tears. Those days were the most memorable. As one mentioned, what I would do for a day in 1985-1985. I would give a finger.R.I.P Chep Nunex, Jam Master Jay and Animal Diaz and all of those in our past that created our memories that will last forever whom are no longer with us. Unfortunately the list is too long. Thanks for the memories.
I remember breaking to this back in the day. Sometimes on 72nd Street on Colombus Ave sometimes in Riverside park. Too old to do them moves now. Arthritis is a bitch.
I remember listing 2 this with both speaker to my ear sittin in an old kitchen chair ... N Baltimore (B-More) >>> they help me find my way 2 Dj'n ... Thank You ... 100 ... Prinze Paul ...
these dudes we're not the regular DJ's on KISS FM.so when you heard their show was gonna be on for that night i made sure i didn't have anything to do the whole time they were on.it was just something you had to hear for them couple of hours with your brand new cassette on record.
hot .. OK so I'm posting this response like 3 years after the original upload ... but as a kid growing up in El Barrio .. we lived for the Latin Rascal mixes and ... who can forget "Paco's Panties" .. If you don't remember those .. you haven't lived ..
i always hear this mastermix,it is classic no doubt.i curious to hear more early tony humphries and chuck chillout mixes....................nice post bro :)
In 1984 I was 13 couldn’t wait for Saturday night to listen to 98.7 or WBLS !

We don't need to hear about personal biz about you and a girl , best part of comments is you only need to share your experiences with music

Don't forget that Mickey Garcia dj'ed for 98.7 Kiss FM prior to MicMac Records.
