  • This cannon wheel needs 4 new felloe sections, a new spoke and the tire reset, from setting too long in one place. Cannon wheels are a bit different from farm wagon wheels in that they have greater dish built into them to accommodate the higher stress placed on them in military situations.

Excellent craftsmanship! The quality of your videos is awesome. You have "BACGROUND MUSIC" that's actually in the background, and only in places where it adds to the video. Camera angles are perfect to show us what's happening. Keep 'em coming, and I'll keep watchin'!!
We have a wagon / buggy / almost anything that's horse drawn museum here in Blanco Texas. Your videos have inspired me to go there for a visit. It's only 15 minutes from where I live. No more excuses for not visiting!

A few years ago I was down at Vicksburg battlefield and being the carpenter I am I was inspecting the wheels pretty close and wondered how they could look so good. Now I know and what I didn't realize, at the time, that there were people still building wheels.

As the son of a German cabinet maker and now a lifelong metal fabricator (35years) I just find this channel relaxing, fascinating and fulfilling in many ways! Sounds funny but just listening to his voice and his dry sense of humor is just great! Oh and his shop looks like mine does sometimes, but note that he knows where everything is (that’s because his wife is not coming behind him to “clean up” the mess!!!)

Sir, It was both a pleasure and a education to see you repair this 57 inch cannon wheel. As a part owner of a cannon that has a similar problem with one of our wheels it gives me a greater appreciation of what it takes to repair a wheel. Too bad your not closer to Georgia, my wheel would be in your shop next week. Thank you for posting this educational video.

This man is not only an artist, while some his tools are more modern than those that were previously used, but he takes his time to replicate the original design. I’m sorry to say but he is the last of a dying breed, but the icing on his job is “he truly enjoys his chosen craft”. My hat and admiration go with him. Thank you for sharing your art work.

My late Father was a wheelwright and coachbuilder. I never really appreciated what he did when I was a teenager. He would always mix his own paints and colors and would never sell a wheel unpainted. He believed that done correctly the painting greatly extended the life of a wheel. Thank you for filming your work.
