Thank you for the tutorial - I'm still having trouble getting started. Any advice for what to do if all lights are turned on, and nothing registers on the playtron play site when following your instructions?
Yours only shows the light when that specific note is activated - what am I doing wrong?

Step 1: Make sure you're using the latest Chrome browser.
Step 2: Make sure you are sending MIDI to the browser. factotumo.com/web-midi-console/
(when you play your Playtron you should see 'messages' appearing in the list.

@@SpectralEvolver I'm using chrome - I've tried using the link you provided with different cables in case the one they provided was defective, but I still see "No Midi Inputs" even after refreshing, no "messages."

@@ivorykeygirl05 This might sound silly but have you tried restarting your computer? Are all the Playtron LEDs still on when you plug it into your computer? Do you have any music software on your computer so we can see if MIDI messages are present there? We will figure it out.
@@SpectralEvolver You're the best, thanks. Unfortunately I've tried restarting both computers and using all of the USB to miniUSB cables I have - strangely enough I have different lights showing depending on what cable I use. Now I have three of the red lights and three of the yellow lights showing.
I tried using garageband on the mac to see if it would let me select it as an instrument, but no luck. The web midi console page also still provides no messages regardless of lights/cables/restart/device.

How can you play this one? Sounds are generating thats ok. But İs it just working just as like trigger or something? Is it just working for a fixed note for a each conducted? I mean if İ want to play a Cmaj scale? Do I need 7 different conducters? I don't understand whats the difference when you compare a midi keyboard:)
Good questions! Yes, Playtron sends MIDI Note On and MIDI Note Off messages. "Is it just working for a fixed note for a each conducted?" Yes, exactly. "Do I need 7 different conducters?" Yes, unless you do some creative mapping in software like Max or Kyma etc. There's 12 unique patch points on Playtron each with its own MIDI note number. "I don't understand whats the difference when you compare a midi keyboard:)" As far as MIDI Note On and Off messages go, it functions identically to a MIDI keyboard. You might think of Playtron as an abstract way of sending note on and off messages; anything that is conductive can be used. This could help with aesthetics in a live performance, for example.
Is it possible to connect it to an analogue Synth instead of a computer?
In a word, yes, but Playtron connects via USB and sends MIDI over that connection. If you want to use MIDI with either pre-MIDI analog synths or with modular Eurorack analog synth systems, you need to convert digital MIDI signals into analog voltages. For this, there are plenty of options. With a bit of research I'm sure you can find a solution that would work for you.

Is there a way to connect it to smartphones or tablets?
Yes, you can use any app that can receive MIDI messages. Playtron connects via USB so you might need an adapter to connect it to your device. For example, if you have an Apple device you would need a Lightning to USB adapter. I'd be curious to see what you create if you get it going. Thanks for watching!
