    Hey.. enjoyed your video.. i am a wingfoiler from Ketchikan, Alaska.. using armstrong foils. (1550v2 HS, 1225MA,1750MA and performance mast 935 as well as 825 mast.. I get fairly close to you when i am in skagway working on the cruise ships. I have doubled my wingfoiling partners in ketchikan recently to 2... Anyhow i subscribed and will be watching your progress.. You are way ahead of me on pump n glide.. Cheers.

      Hey AKSeapilot,
      There's some amazing spots in the north for foiling, and you never have to worry about overcrowding!

    Great video and what a beautiful place. Have been dock starting the 1675 and it is amazing how much better they are than the old 2400 and 1850. So much easier now.

      Chadburn Lake, is an amazing playground for water sports! I wish I had brought my wing because later the day, the wind always picks up.

    Have to try the shortest mast and the TC70. Super easy and stable for what you’re trying to do!

      I totally agree with the mast length, the 795 is not ideal for pumping, but it's the only one that I have at the moment. I've been saving up for the 725 performance mast, hopefully I'll have one in the next month.

    Great effort to go past 1 min , next time you turn in a long run to come home again, turn down wind and retain more energy in the turn where you need it the most . If you can get a glide 220 to try and a 1675 give those a go as well , you might make it even further on that combo given your weight. A guy with a similar 1675 setup was running 7.5 on the wkt tracks here fyi, it took him 3 sessions to find his happy place but it was basically the same as his other foils in the end, worth a shot. 🎉 once again congrats on earning your hat and as always im looking forward to the next episode 🎉

      Thanks Wayne! I'll have to experiment with different set ups, and I would love to do a head to head with the 1880 and the 1675 one day.

    Well done. Amazing how all the docks you go to don't have post or blocker to prevent dockstarters.

      Hi Daveovit8564,
      I've been lucky to find more floating docks these days. Technology and price has made floating docks more affordable and practical as well since water levels are constantly fluctuating, even on lakes.

    Stay as high as you can on that mast and it will just feel more and more effortless. With the HA1125 and 925 even in the surf if I’m up high it feels more like just a light tap tap tap or a pump than having to use a ton of leg strength and energy.

    • @silverthesurfer
      @silverthesurfer  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks Max for the advice! I recently purchased a 725 performance mast which definitely makes it easier to keep the foil closer to the surface of the water.

    I tried that Armstrong apf 1880 foil now for about half a year and made little to no progress. Today I switched with a friend , he has a leviathan 1350 and it felt sooo much better…my friend who tried my APF couldn’t do a full round anymore. With the leviathan he could pump easy for a minute easy. This Armstrong foil is so hard to pump in comparison to leviathan. it stalls quicker than the leviathan. It’s slower than Levithan. It’s more unstable. we are both are more less beginners and maybe a pro would see advantages in the Armstrong foil. We couldn’t see that.

      I’ve heard a lot of good things about the Sabfoil lineup. If it works for you great! I think the record of 45 minutes flat water pumping was set by an Italian kid on the Sabfoil system. I’ll have to try to get my hands on one to test it out:)

    Hi @silverthesurfer.. I have been considering getting 1880.. have you gone to the 1675 or felt that you have outgrown it and need smaller? I weight 90KG.. Curious what your weight is? for now i am looking to just flat water paddle up with a downwind board and some day do the dock starts.. hopefully.

    • @silverthesurfer
      @silverthesurfer  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi AKSeapilot, I haven't tried the 1675 so it's hard for me to say which one I prefer. I'm 75 kg and don't feel that I've outgrown the 1880 yet. The 1880 feels nice on flat water because of it's lift and glide profile, but the foil will be influenced if the water becomes choppy.
      If you're thinking about dock starting, at 90 kg I would recommend going with the 1880.
      Good lucK!

    Hey man super cool.. I like your enthusiasm and positivity. I am a winger tying to learn the down wind paddle foil. I ride ma 1225, ma1750, ha1325. I also have axis 1150 the size is 1780. I probably have to get rid of 1150 and get a APF. I use a axis 19mm mast with a Jim Stringfellow custom fuse for my armstrong foils. Axis 19mm mast is stiffer then armstrong original mast and is way less money. It is not as stiff as there newer mast though. I am wondering if you have tried wif hof breathing or any other breathing as a pre breathing exercise to pump your body full of oxygen before or between pumping to get better performance Lower heart rate and for better recovery. There are also other breathing techniques out there as well. Thanks for the motivation. I think I will get to my local dock and get in some practice. Much love!!!!

      Hi gotmiracles3489,
      I'm also looking to try out downwinding at some point, but not until I come back from Central America to learn how to prone. Downwinding looks super fun! I haven't tried any specific breathing exercises yet, but I'm definitely going to incorporate some breathing techniques once I refine my pumping technique.

    I’m no expert but you seem to be going better when your running higher. With fresh water it’s probably harder to get higher but I reckon you would find it easier. Have you tried a shorter mast like a 795?

    • @silverthesurfer
      @silverthesurfer  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello Paul,
      Thank you for your suggestion! You're absolutely right with a shorter mast. I recently purchased a 725 mast and it does make a difference with pumping a hydrofoil.

  • @drbezard
    @drbezard 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Nice video ! I have a 85 mast. 90kg. Do you think it’s worth to get a shorter ?! I don’t get that thing running. Performance or normal …I don’t see the difference?!

    • @silverthesurfer
      @silverthesurfer  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hello drbezard,
      If you're an aggressive rider, you will feel the difference between a regular mast and a performance when making hard turns, especially if you're heavier and you're using a large front foil. I mostly feel it with the stiffness that the performance provides, making it feel more responsive and active. I like the shorter mast when pumping as it creates less drag, but it all depends on how you ride, the conditions of the water, and what discipline of foiling you're participating in.
      Also, if you're riding in shallow water, or areas where there could be rocks under the surface of the water, a shorter mast is better.

    Hello, thx for your great videos. I am managing flatwater starts on 7.7 Armstrong Dw board with the apf 1880. And I am looking now for a board which makes it easy to learn the dockstart and wakefoil. Do you think the WKT 109cm is fine. Not to narrow to place the backfoot correct when jumping from the dock? Many thx, other options could be also: Liquid Force Nebula 4.2x19x16l, North Scoop 3.11x18x16l, Slingshot WF-1 V4 4.2 x 21 x 22l

    • @silverthesurfer
      @silverthesurfer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Ramon,
      If you are looking for a board specifically for wakefoiling and dockstarting, I would go would something smaller with less bouyancy. With both wakeboarding and dockstarting, you don't need a board that floats, and you will appreciate how connected you feel with the foil with a thinner board.
      Coming from a downwind background, you can probably see the trend is going to a more narrow board. Unless you have really big feet, the Armstrong wkt 109 is plenty big enough for me and I have size 10 feet. In fact, I'm even hoping Armstrong will come out with an even smaller wkt board.
      Hope that helps, and good luck!

      Thx mate@@silverthesurfer There are people who say that its easier to start behind a boat with some more volume for examle the FG 4.0 27l board vs the WKT 122 9.5l What do you think? When you use it in wakefoiling do you use straps or not? Many thanks

      @@RamonSBruhn
      I've only wakefoiled a hand full of times, and I didn't have too much difficulty getting up on my wkt 109. I would say, once you're up, you're going to want a smaller board. I'm still very new at wakefoiling and when I go I'll use a strap on my front foot.

      Hello,
      It's the Gath RV helmet, I like it especially because of the visor! It's the only helmet that I can find with the unique slide down visor design.
      The suit is an Xcel infinity 4/3mm. I also have 5mm suit, but I only use it for really cold days.

    From your testimony about wind & wake may effecting this 1880 foil ……is it similar to Axis PnG 1310 ( ~2000 cm2) that slight change of wake or ripples can mess up the ride of the foil this size…this size foil may be good for straight line pump but turning is on a second base..

    • @silverthesurfer
      @silverthesurfer  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hi tettok8431,
      I agree, the trade off of all large foils is that the added lift means that there is less control as well as riders being subject to external influence such as ripples, waves and currents.
      That being said, designers are well on there way to finding a design with super strong materials that allows riders to have that low end glide while maintaining high speed control and maneuverability in a small profile wing.
