To everyone who is reading this, you’re beautiful and an amazing person. Please exercise frequently and eat more fruits/veggies. I wish you all good health, great success, and everlasting happiness!!!!!!!!
As a Florida native it’s so fun to watch you experience all the weird stuff I’m so used to! I can’t believe you didn’t know about the Florida panther!! If you haven’t already, learn about them, their story is so amazing and they are so so endangered.
From what I was told by a Park Ranger who worked the Everglades parks and Preserves, they were so endangered that they brought in South African panthers (a bit larger) to mate with the Florida Panther. The population was down to 38 at one point and it had grown to 105 when I spoke to him about 12 years ago. In 19 years on the job he had only seen 5 panthers with his own eyes. Rare to see them.
I used to live in Florida for 9 years and watching this video makes me miss it; you don't realize how different and unique it is to the rest of the country.
There are thousands of 4 to 8 minute videos on youtube with top 10 here and best places there. You have those too, and they're not bad. But what it really does for me are those long travel videos, mostly with your dad. Half an hour is minimum. I'm always so excited when they last 90 minutes or longer. Sure, that's just my taste. There's a real holiday feeling. The viewer get a vague idea of a place and all the little details complete the picture. It really makes me want to travel and explore. Also, you guys seem like nice people. Thank you and keep it up!
This is a comprehensive exploration man about the wildlife around florida. This is so cool...thanks for bringing us to this place...well im from the Philippines and i adore people like you and paps exploring together which is seldom because mostly young ones prefer to be with their peers but you chose to be with your father and i am so proud of you because you have a good relationship with your dad...god is happy for both you
We went there a couple of years ago in mid December. No mosquitos, no humidity, instead alligator overload! We didn't have to "find" them as they were basically all over the place. The locals of our Airbnbs confirmed that December and January are the best months to visit. Did an air boat tour too, which was a highlight of the whole trip. Can't wait to take our kids there in the future.
The cooler temps definitely bring the gators out of hiding, and they love to soak up the sun on 'cold' days. That's also the prime months for birds and other migrating fowl. Usually through March or April they're in abundance. Naples and Ft. Myers also have daily Key West Express ferries to Key West, which is an amazing trip.
As a Floridian who visits Everglades National Park frequently in November-March, this is a great overview! You did A LOT in one day! The only thing I think you missed was Robert Is Here Fruit Stand (for a key lime milkshake). If I remember correctly, only in Flamingo will you see crocodiles in the park. It's the only place in the world where alligators and crocodiles coexist. Doing a wet walk is one of the best experiences in the park (off the main road, near the Pa-hay-okee Trail turn off).
My wife and I biked Shark Valley in May which had its pros and its cons. I felt like we saw pretty much the same type of stuff that you would see on the tram with a few additional things. We saw a soft shelled turtle laying eggs and a few white ibis or wood stork (can't remember which one) jabbing its beak at a snake to kill it. The issue with biking is having only one gear and as a result one speed (slow!). 15 miles feels like an eternity when the sun is beating down on you, otherwise I actually really enjoyed the views and the trip much more. It gave the viewer more control.
I kinda remember "shark" alley being "alligator alley" back when I was there last. I also liked that you could get off the tram anywhere along the line and get back on any other that came along.
Kudos to the everglades national park management to make most of the park trails accessible for wheel chairs.. And thank you for mentioning these trails in your video..
thanks for the information on protecting cars. I am planning a trip to Everglades and Key West with my husband in 2023. I was also told to make sure to protect against ticks.
I know I'm late to this but I've lived all over florida for the last 21 years and some of the coolest places to check out are the state parks. They really give you a feel for how much variety there is in florida. Myakka state park, Payne's Prairie, and any of the natural springs are amazing
You crack me up I lived in Miami and Key West, never saw dry tortugas or Biscayne National Im rerired in Baja Mexico since Hurricane Irma hit me in Key West Thank you! Fakahatchee is cool, and everglade city general store
Just a little further west on route 41 in the Northern part of the Everglades is the Ten thousand islands nationals wildlife refuge marsh trail. That's my favorite spot in the everglades as it has a bird watching tower, a long straight path, and more alligators and birds than you'll see anywhere else, including Roseate Spoonbills sometimes
Nice video. This is also the first time I've heard about the black vultures and cars, so I've filed that away in my mind for when I make it down there.
Man, I just wish I could go to Everglades National Park. It’s so cool because I’ve been learning about Florida panthers being endangered. But now it’s the best place in Florida, second after the beach.
Great video. I go camping at Flamingo a couple times during the month of March. When the water dries up in the spring, tons of birds gather in the pools to feed on the fish. March is also the month when the swallow-tailed kites migrate north from South America. Watching your video got me excited to head down there in a couple weeks.
Crocodiles have longer, narrower heads with a V-shape. Alligators have a more rounded U-shape to their heads. The Everglades is the only placed in the world where both species coexist.
Thanks for another great video. Growing up in Miami, you always had the obligatory field trip to the Everglades! We live about 45 min from the southern entrance and 30 min from the northern entrance and we love visiting the park for walks (especially this time of year).
Home sweet home. Great video- you covered quite a lot in a day! I've often wondered how I'd tackle Everglades if it wasn't my "home park" and I always thought that you'd need at least 3-4 days to cover it all but this says otherwise. Meanwhile- there's one more "entrance" to EVER: The Gulf Coast area with tours that take you out into Florida Bay, the Gulf, and the 10,000 Islands part of the park. You have to come back out and experience that.... along with Big Cypress National Preserve, which is about 20 minutes past Shark Valley. I know you're from California... Imagine a watery Muir Woods or Redwood National Park. That's what Cypress is like and it's wonderful. One of my favorite parts of the Greater Everglades Ecosystem.
haha I am sure we left so much out but we tried to do it justice in the one day we had for it. I would love to go to Big Cypress, I kept hearing about how amazing it was when I was there but we ran out of time on this trip. Sounds like something I need to go back for!
I have a trip planned to Key West in June. We’re wanting to see Everglades/Big Cypress and have a day set aside. We’re planning to visit Shark Valley for sure but not sure yet where to go in Big Cypress. Do you have any suggestions?
We biked Shark Valley a few years ago, and the alligators over the road were the least scary wildlife. There were crows that literally unzipped our bicycle bags, took everything out, stole some Wet Ones and actually opened them nearby. 🤣
I'm glad you have gotten to see this park. Its one of my favorites. The bike trail at shark valley...and flamingo are amazing. I'm a resident and its hard to explain how cool it is. Love your videos...thanks for helping me remember my visit....great work team.
So glad you liked the video. We both loved the park, it is one of those that you have to really learn about and understand in order to fully appreciate. Such a cool spot
WOW, this was an awesome video. You always do your homework, and flesh out the videos. I think that's a tour that I would be interested in on a future trip to FL. another great, informative video👏👏🌈
Nice job, You and Pops really covered a lot of ground in one day. I was there for two days and didn't cover as much as you did. We were in a Class C Motorhome similar to the one in your video. I'm very glad there were no Ravens trying to eat my camper.
I will be visiting the Everglades in a few weeks so the info about the black vultures was really helpful! I'll be using my daughters car (I live in So. CA and she lives in FL) so I would have hated having bits of her car either on the ground or in a vulture's tummy, yikes! Good job on the videos!
Love your videos! Keep up the good work! Thank you for the heads up about the vultures in the parking lot. I never would have known and sometimes we do travel by a rental car.
Love you videos; nice visit to fun places. Inspect spray a must. Some fun stuff in central FL west of Ocala,,,Marjorie Taylor The Fawn author estate about hour north of Ocala too.
Seeing as how you were on a trail, rather than in a canoe out near the ocean, what you saw was an alligator (fresh water critter), rather than a crocodile (salt water). By the way, FL is the only place in the world where you can find both. Alligators have a rounded mouth, while crocs' are pointed. It looks as if the campground buildings in Flamingo are what I stayed in during my trip a few years ago. They've been up for less than 5 years. They're permanent tents with electric lights, and it's all on a system of boardwalks. I had gator bites there, as well as at a Seminole roadside stand along Alligator Alley. This is also where I got my airboat tour; it was especially great since we were given decibel --reducing headphones, which kept my ears from blowing out.
Your video is always stunning even in dark and cloudy weather. Out of everything I watch on TH-cam your video quality is the best. What camera do you use??!
I am absolutely terrified of alligators & crocodiles & I don't know the difference but it doesn't matter. I am convinced that the gater or croc that does me in will be the one out if a million that's figured out how to climb onto the boardwalks, etc.

I was shocked, I would have never guessed there was a panther in Florida haha. I will go read about them now!
I’m a Floridaman and I have seen exactly one panther irl. I consider myself lucky.
From what I was told by a Park Ranger who worked the Everglades parks and Preserves, they were so endangered that they brought in South African panthers (a bit larger) to mate with the Florida Panther. I'll be moving to Florida,,, so scared of snakes 🐍 and alligators...
I used to live in Florida for 9 years and watching this video makes me miss it; you don't realize how different and unique it is to the rest of the country.
Yea, it really is a unique area and landscape for sure
