    What's the time period between each grade? This video was very informative, also not too complicated.Thanks Doc👍

      In theory, the time period between MO grades 1 and 2 and 2 and 3 is 5 years but the notches are six and seven notches respectively. Each notch is a progression per year. So you can have an accelerated progression if you do well on your PMDS ( performance management ). If you are in your 5th year on a particular grade and only on notch 5. You should make an application to move to grade 2 or 3. This is a grey area and I would suggest you speak to your union representative for assistance. There are 8 notches before you can reach a clinical manager grade 2 and a grade 2 position is never advertised. A fact which most doctors do not understand is that if you have left the service and come back into the public sector at a production level you can negotiate your salary to be placed on a higher notch for example if you have qualified with 4 years experience you can be placed on grade 1 notch 4. I hope this answers your question.

    The wages are quite a bit higher than I thought they would be considering the budget the SA government has available to it. The base wage at the community service level is higher than what a doctor would get in the UK (at the same stage in their career) and the medical officer scales are around the same level as the UK.

    Medicine is a good career option with good remuneration. I was shocked to see how low lawyer salaries are in South Africa

    Thank you for the video. What is the inhospitable allowance? Is it provided by every hospital?

    • @InterncomservVlog
      @InterncomservVlog  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The inhospitable allowance also referred to as a bargaining chamber or PSCBC rural allowance is given in hospitals that are not designated per government ruling as rural. Certain districts in provinces are designated rural so all hospital in the areas get rural allowances. The "inhospitable" allowance is negotiated at the bargaining chamber, a place where the employees and employers discuss conditions of service. The employees or even employer can ask for certain hospitals to be given this allowance based on difficulty to recruit or a danger to work in etc.

    Does dentist earn the same salary as doctors or it differs?
    Do they also have overtime salary and rural / in-hospitable allowance?

    • @InterncomservVlog
      @InterncomservVlog  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thank you for watching. Like the medical doctors, dentists get the same rural and inhospitable allowance of 22% and 18 % respectively, The salary and grading are essentially the same except that the starting salary for a dentist grade 1 is slightly lower. Overtime for dentists to my knowledge have been reduced or even stopped by the majority of the provinces. I will be doing a dedicated episode to dentists in the very near future so that you may have more clarity.

    So doctors working in the rural hospitals earn more than those who work in cities?

    • @InterncomservVlog
      @InterncomservVlog  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes and no, if the hospital or district you work in is designated rural then you will earn 18 to 22 % more on your basic salary than other doctors. For example although Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Hospital is in Umlazi Durban an urban area, it is designated rural and gets allowance.

    Why are the clinical manager posts not advertised?

    • @InterncomservVlog
      @InterncomservVlog  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Clinical managers grade 1 are advertised. The grade 2 position are not advertised. You first have to complete your term as a grade 1 and you are then progressed to grade 2.

    Is the medical officer salaries include pension fund contribution ?

    • @InterncomservVlog
      @InterncomservVlog  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it includes the pension contribution. There is a 70/30 split. 13% of 30% is the employer contribution and 7.5% of the 70% is the employee contribution.
