Diablo IV, the fourth main installment in the Diablo series, is an action role-playing game developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment. It was officially announced at BlizzCon 2019 and is set to be fully released on
June 5, 2023, with early access starting on June 1. Public betas were made available in March 2023.
The game retains beloved series features, such as re-playable, procedurally generated dungeons, and a focus on loot-driven character-building. However, it also introduces exciting new elements, including an open world and player versus player (PVP) interactions. In the world of Sanctuary, players embark on quests and engage in combat, guiding their characters - chosen from five playable classes: Barbarian, Druid, Necromancer, Rogue, and Sorcerer - following the resurrection of the demon Lilith.
The core gameplay of Diablo IV revolves around progressively acquiring stronger equipment by defeating increasingly challenging enemies. Players employ various character class skills, which can be customized through equipment and talent trees, to overcome obstacles and advance through the story and quests. Enemies are categorized into distinct monster families, each defined by a unique theme, combat style, and location. These families consist of diverse archetypes that assume different roles, facilitating synergies of specialty abilities between family members. To further distinguish them, enemies possess distinct silhouettes, stances, and weapons.
Throughout the game, players can choose from five classes. The Barbarian, Sorcerer, and Druid classes were initially revealed at BlizzCon 2019, while the Rogue class was unveiled at BlizzCon 2021. The fifth class, the Necromancer, was announced in 2022. Diablo IV is slated for release on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, with development simultaneously taking place for both PC and console versions.
