    Good video for beginning riders. You have mentioned all important points. I'd just emphasize to ALWAYS do shoulder checks when doing lane changes. It needs to become muscle memory, so you'll never have to think about it and won't ever forget it.
    I've had dozens of experiences when a car was right next or slightly behind me on the highway and I was about to change into their lane because the lane looked clear in the mirror. A shoulder check saved me every time. You will not hear a car next to you over the wind noise.

    My first few times on the highway, I felt i needed to be faster than traffic. Now that I have relaxed a lot on a motorcycle, im comfortable cruising at 65-70mph and letting traffic in the faster lanes do its thing. The idea that a car will run you over because you are riding with traffic is a fear thing and not actual reality. Ride the motorcycle the same as you drive a car. We all have the same laws to follow. Always be aware of your emergency exits in case a car does merge on accident or traffic stops suddenly. I rarely have close calls or any fast reactions incidents riding this way.

      I think the problem is I drive my car the same way, ears pinned back haha

    Excellent beginner video! Nice riding, and I certainly dig your bike. I've loved Sv's since they came out in 99. I bought my first new one in 2019 and it is brilliant. I've been riding for well over 20 years, but really cool to see a new rider video done so well. Great job! Keep making videos. I'll keep watching. Stay safe and enjoy the ride every time 👍

    Looks like I'm not the only one riding with the gas tank almost empty. I too like to live dangerously ;)

    Man keep the head checks going before u change lanes etc. There a must

  • @alpet1805
    @alpet1805 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    No head checks will make you a short lived motorcyclist... the mirrors do not provide 360 view and you do have blind spots...

    New rider here as well, firstly: nice bike! Will ride my '95 xj600 for a year or so and then a young sv650 is a contender for a long term bike.
    Did you take a course, I did and it does pay off safety wise. They do teach you there are blind spots, not only where you should stay out of, but also where others might hide in. Check your over your shoulder & don't fare blindly on your mirrors.

      It is nice to meet you Marc. I did take the course, but doing head checks at 55-70 mph was a lot different than what we practiced in the course at 12 mph and no wind resistance or cars. But I agree, those head checks are imperative and are second nature now that I am a lot more comfortable.

    Just bought the SV650 today for a commuting and fun vehicle to drive around town! Highway speeds here are 75mph, so I will definitely need to be picking up earplugs as you recommend. Thanks for the content

      Huge congratulations to you! Once you get used to the commute and everything slows down while you are riding, you will see just how life changing it is!! Safe riding to you my friend

    FYI only the left lane should be used as a passing lane on the highway, never pass in the right lane.

    I've owned a Yamaha vstart1300 and currently have a can am Ryker 900cc three cylinder. I am now looking to get a 2024 Sazuki SV650. Can it easily do highway speeds (75 to 86 MPH)? Please let me know, as I have never owned a sport/naked bike.

    • @IceTheCloser
      @IceTheCloser  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, 70 for me was super comfortable, 75 to 86 is no issue, 90s is no issue really, just the wind is the issue at the speed

    Good vid with good info. I’m newly licensed and looking for something to do 30 mile one way all freeway work commute in eastern Phoenix area. I was looking in the 400cc range but came to realize it’s not enough power. Standard early morning flow is 75-ish. I’m thinking this bike could pull it off with a windscreen.

    • @IceTheCloser
      @IceTheCloser  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think so too! Just a note that it is possible that you might be more comfortable going faster than flow of traffic on a bike. But in 70s that sv650 is a peach

    Mirrors are great but always do a lifesaver (head check) before changing lanes. It’s not just for the car next to you, it’s the car that’s two lanes over and decided it also wants that lane at the same time as you. Or the idiot that is changing 3 lanes at once to make an exit. Head checks are for what you can’t see or predict.

    Does the bike have enough weight to prevent it from being skittish in strong cross-winds?
    I had a small 250cc once, and it used to push my bike a couple of feet sideways on the highways! lol

    • @alecgrimmer2060
      @alecgrimmer2060 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, it does well enough. I have the same bike and even on very windy NM days it’s not a problem. Headwinds without fairings or windshield, now that gets uncomfortable

    • @IceTheCloser
      @IceTheCloser  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think it also depends on how heavy you are. Tucking has helped me in cross winds as well to make myself less of a sail and more of a "rock"

    I know you said you would never break the speed limit and of course you probably never will. However, I expect as you increase in experience the speedo will strangely begin to go blurry on the video as it does on other motovloggers as they accelerate. 😉
