    Hi 👋, Greg , I have been watching quite a few of your Woodturning project, the woods look 👀 amazing, some great work, the graining in the wood looks stunning, I wonder if it is because your trees are growing up side down for me, 😂 Great work ,Retired English gentleman living in France, I look 👀 forward to seeing your next project, Phil from the moulin France.

      😂. Thanks Phil. Appreciate you watching and sending a comment. The trees do grow better upside down. lol. We have some great types of wood which bring out wonderful grain.

      Hi 👋, Greg , I am glad you see the sense of humour, 😂. I used to be a mathematician but I could not understand 🪵 Logarithms they kept falling short 🩳. Especially when you cut the end off 😂. I have been watching some of your work shop project very interesting, Then I came across your Building Construction Business, very interesting, I have been working for my self, Specialist Jointer structural work in timber and Cabinet Making Work, for approximately 45y , Doors windows staircase kitchen cabinets tables and chairs, I been restoring 2 property Very old Forge 1600s , And a France Very Old Moulin / Mill 15/60 s , I now retired and living in Moulin in France, but not yet finished,
      I forgot to mention that I have 2 Wood Lathe, Wadkin RS8 with new motor and VFD drive, and Kontour Semi Automatic 1500, back in 1998/9 I had a contact for making Pepper-mills in BlackWood Rosewood and plastic, then they were sent to a silver smith for the bottom part of the pepper-mill to have a pure silver ring fitted and then Hallmark for the Millennium 2000,. I still wished I was still working,
      Stay safe, keep up the great work, Phil from the moulin France.

      I am impressed Phil. Your restoration works sounds interesting. Do you have photos of your work. You and I could swap dad jokes for days😂. Currently in Japanese getting plenty of ideas for some new projects.

      Thanks for subscribing Kev. I have used Yellowbox and Redgum for a couple of chess sets. Both beautiful and hard woods but have a great grain look. There is plenty of wood in the burls to keep me going.

    Well done Greg, the grain is beautiful. I remember my first go at splitting yellow box for firewood! No wonder you went to the carbide. You wouldn't swap those mates of yours for an old pocket knife would you?

    • @GregStute
      @GregStute  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks John. I try to steer away from Yellowbox cause it is so hard. Milled a Yellowbox off the farm years ago and made a big kitchen table. Pocket knife is staying in the pocket for this one 🤣

    Great bowl and great pick up with the burls. That should keep you out of trouble for a while. 😂 I haven't tried tung oil yet, does it set up to a nice hard finish?

    • @GregStute
      @GregStute  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank Mark. The tung oil takes a few days to harden. I use it for the advantages that it is an oil that penetrates the wood surface helping to keep it moist and stop the cracking. It is a water repellent and was used in the early wooden boats. Sometimes I finish the piece with a wax.

    Greg what make gouge's were you using ??

    • @GregStute
      @GregStute  ปีที่แล้ว

      The roughing gouge is from a local Men’s Shed who have a tool maker in their club and the spindle gouge is a Crown.
