Let me know if you have any questions on this technique. I am aware of the technicalities and difficulties. There are plenty of workarounds, just let me know and I can point you in the right direction.
In my opinion, transitions are tastefully used when they bridge scenes/chapters of the story. For instance, on a small scale, from one establishing wide shot into up close on the subject.
Obviously the highest use case of a transition like this is for wow factor. Not my favorite use, but it still wows me.

Yes, this is the same concept of transition as Sam Kolder. But I found Kolders method too long and inefficient. For example, this video was made in nearly real time. Took me roughly 25 mins to do this from the ground up. But this was a convenient couple of clips, I've also done much longer and harder to blend segments.
Use your imagination and link me examples of your own. I want to see more of this technique.
I'm all self taught, you can do this too.
Motion blur ties most of these transition together. I use RSMB, a motion blur plugin.

@@joshualum I will!
Nice Man Thank You !
This is really useful please make more
There won't be any more after effects tutorials. Techniques can be mutual though.
I love smooth transitions
I do too haha
WOWOWOOW
Thank you!
great tutorial dude thanks
Thanks!
ok dude this is insane
Thanks. I appreciate that!
this is amazing
Well thank you much!
You should make more tutorials on this ... such epic transitions !!
Well, I did make a Fusion version. And I do want to make more, but they'll only be fusion. No more after effects.
Dope tutorial . More like this
I do have another one in the works. Putting it out as ASAP as possible.
Appreciate it
I see you have moved to DaVinci resolve . You should make this again but using DaVinci😊
Very Nice!!!
Thank you!
Hollo SSSSS. i didnt see any cut between, you have done spectacular job
Heyo thank you!!
Damn your a great teacher !
Haha thank you!
Bro epic 👌🏼 gonna definitely try it but looks quite complicated for me 😂
It is a little complicated. But muuuuuch quicker than some attempts of other people. Others try tracking with Mocha and such. Honestly over complicating it.
Give it a try with some easier shots. Let me know how it goes, I'd love to help.
wow! love it, what the heck am I seeing this only now?
Haha, good question. I think the barrier of entry for after effects turns people off.
Amazing !! thanks a lot and +1 !!
Thanks kindly!
best lesson on youtube!
youre too kind sir. Appreesh!
@@joshualum sir, i couldnt smooth the handles at 2:08.. any idea what im doing wrong?
@@Hijaziia uhhhh tough without seeing exactly. So I'll take some guesses. Make sure the camera is being controlled by the null. And that you're key framing the nulls position. The handles pop up after key framing begins. From what I remember
Sam kolder🔥
Thanks man i'm joshua too 😉 keep up love your video style
Haha right on! Thank you! Will do!
This Transition remade in Davinci Resolve would be awesome to see!
Already done sir. Not the exact same, but the same techniques. So one can figure it out.
super Seamless
Haha that's the idea. There's seamless and something close to it.
👍
will you able to share the clips so we can follow! amazing video subscribed! :)
I would normally, but for this video, both those clips came from artgrid.io
It's also hard for me to sustain hosting clips online.
Thanks though! I appreciate it!
Please do this in Resolve! 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
I did ! th-cam.com/video/1CX9QiwWHYg/w-d-xo.html
hey Joshua, quick question. Ive been trying to make this work but when I link the camera and the null object I cannot drag null around like you do In the video. Any tips you can give to fix this?
specifically like in 1:22 of the video
@@alecrijks Put your layers in 3D!
I had the same problem but if you unselect the mark of "contract transformations" ( the icon is like a little star and it's part of the "Layer definition panel") you are available to do the same movement like this tutorial.
PS. Sorry about my translate of the settings in after effects I use it in spanish
Drag the camera's parent to null not the null's parent to camera
Is this RSMB plugin free? Or can you do it without that plugin?
You can do it without the plugin. It just helps smooth things out. It's not free.
awesome! what does this transition name is?
No official name. A keyword that's helpful might be "seamless."
Hi Joshua, many thanks for this great tutorial, I have done this tut, and I have a small problem if you don't mind can you please assist me, in 2:08 for the handlebars how can I find them? as I have only linear I need to make it smooth which I can't do it I have only linear. Thanks bro
I found it now :)
thanks
Glad you found em, I was just looking into what the problem might be for you.
@@OSAMALENS9 how?

Where did you get the footage from? I wanna try along as well.
Artgrid.io
I've a problem: When I linked camera with null object, but when I move the camera the still video does not move.
Make sure everything is in 3D? Hard to help with a basic description, but I'm also very removed from after effects
Also, I believe someone may have had a similar problem in the comments below.
They found a solution I think. Just look through the comments.
I'm not getting that angle bar in my composition ... Can you please help me
I'm not sure what you mean by angle bar. And at what point of the video
have the same problem Joshua. Just don't know how to drag and rotate the null object and achieve this same motion, because I can only go straight. Any advise how can I do it too ? @@joshualum
Since I haven't touched after effects in a while, I don't remember the terminology.
iirc, when you keyframe the nulls position you can transform the path and ease the animation. The Internet says Ctrl+Shift+H hides and reveals transform guides.
Hi Joshua, Thank you for the great tutorial. It helps a lot. The problem matohurban and even me have is to grab the handle bars of the null object to smooth out the animation. (as you do in your video) But they are not shown in the composition. One had to turn the motion path from directional into bezier. And I wonder if it`s an adjustment in general or some hotkeys to press. Maybe you can remember. Have a great day 🙂@@joshualum
Now I got it. You have to right click on a keyframe in the canvas. And in the now opening menu you can choose interpolation. Now you have the handle bars. 😉@@joshualum
Capcut tutorial plis
Haha, sorry. I won't be making this in capcut. I'm not even sure it's possible in capcut.
I did do it for resolve which is free.
Still, nothing beats the original Sam Kolder version. But this is a nice method when tracking to the 2nd clip is less important. I wouldn't have used that whoosh because it didn't seem to fit with the smooth nature of the transition.
What about his is better than this one?
Yeah perhaps I could have found a smoother sound to accompany the motion. But I do think it still needs a sound.
@@joshualum The thing I like about Kolder’s is that his reveal used the wave and not the sky to reveal the new background. The bounce of the wave rather than the whiteness of the sky made it more of a movement based (as opposed to color based) transition, which I thought was pretty cool for that kind of scene combo. It was also more natural, the way the new background appeared as the wave dropped than with the wave and flowers, IMHO.
@@spearcy ah gotcha. No yeah, I agree, his is more appealing. The technique is the same though. Its only a difference in footage. Which is hopefully an understanding that comes with explaining this concept. But yeah, 100% agree that if I had two different clips, more motivated by movement, it would look better.
Thanks for caring!
