The moba style of game mode did them no favours but lets not also forget: a drastic drop in meaningful unit upgrades compared to the previous games, the odd decision to remove a retreat button or a levelling system matched with meat grinder style gameplay, elite units which can shred half of a late game army in moments, something like five maps on release and last but most importantly: not enough distinction between units on the map. seriously, nobody knows whats happening in the late game because its such a mess lol. Can't get my head around this guy's tactics. Push forward, beat the enemy back, then let the enemy regroup and destroy those forward forces while a ton of reinforcements sit at the rear doing nothing. Forward forces don't retreat, get annihilated, enemy retakes the ground the just lost, reinforcements finally come forward and it all starts again from the beginning. Perfect illustration around the 25-28m mark.

@@monsieurg8256 Exactly. They fuckin' nailed it with the first Dawn of War and then after that the entire series fell off a cliff. DoWII has zero basebuilding and DoWIII has been streamlined to hell.

Saddened by them discontinuing development of this title. The core was fine just needed a bit of work with the match mechanics they were so close to having a great addition to the franchise.
Cool video bro, but maybe is because i come for warcraft 3 (No reforged) and i consider that around minute 5 you managed to get alll the posible advantage for secure the victory of course is cool to see all the units and all the "DAKKA" from the battle but usually when we use "the rain of steel" tactic (Yes, there is a astartes tactic for that style of play) we secure the victory as fast as we can, i enjoyed the video even with hour of extra dakka xD
I really think imperial guard DLC/update would of save this game Edit: my proof is all Warhammer 40K RTS games popularity spike every time they do chaos or Guardsman DLC/Update Edit 2:or started with imperial guard available

They were trend chasing more simplistic moba's. Aiming for a mass audience. Experiment didn't work out.

In about 10 years or so, modders will have turned it into the DOW3 you actually wanted. ;)
