Love this game. I like how you cant really predict what your opponent is going to do compared to a game like MTG. The plot cards change everything each round and makes every game unique.
Very good tutorial. However, I notice new players have problems understanding two things. One is that you can attack and defend with multiple characters (it is mentioned, but every example is a 1v1). Two is what happens if Str. of the attacker and defender are equal (the attacker wins).
this was the best tutorial video i've seen for a card / board game! i would watch every single tutorial video for any game if they were made like this.. ps holy f*** thhis video is 7 years old and looks amazing...
The second edition seems to be more appealing to new players (such as myself) to the game than the first edition was. I'll probably give this one a try!
Based on what I have seen I'm curious to know what a 3 or more player game will be like? 2 player looks fun but I bet my friends will all wanna try this out! I have never played the previous version but am looking forward to this one! Artwork looks AHHMAZING and its cool to be able to play the different houses...and the Nightwatch lol. For future expansions would if they added new factions like white walkers/ Night king etc. :O
+sebastian langley Hello Sebastian. You might have the first edition of the game. This video is for the second edition. Here are the links for the first and second editions. You will be able to tell which version you have based on the game logos. www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/products/a-game-of-thrones-lcg/ www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/products/a-game-of-thrones-the-card-game-second-edition/
Are template and timing triggers the only real mechanical changes to the second edition? I hope that there is more than that otherwise I might feel slighted having to buy intoAgot twice for the same product.
I have a doubt, when you put cards in the discard pile, is there no way to get them back? Is it not like MTG where you can get cards back from the cementery but not from the exhile pile?
It's a little more complicated than that. Cards like Varys can be removed from the game, preventing any possibility of bringing them back. The dead pile resembles the exile pile, but, outside of card abilities, like those found in Ser Gregor Clegane, only characters go in the dead pile after they are killed. Additional copies of unique characters in the dead pile cannot be played, but there are certain faction abilities, like those found in the Greyjoy faction, that allow you to bring cards back from the dead pile. Plot cards like Rebuilding and Reinforcements allow you to take cards back from the discard pile, and copies of unique characters that are in the discard pile can be played again.
Why does the Stark has the Plot "A Feast for Crows" while the Lannister has "A Noble Cause". The game manual says otherwise. Was this simply an error? +Fantasy Flight Games
I'm curious, wouldn't it make more sense to keep the cards in your hand, instead of laying them on the table for your opponent to see your strengths and weaknesses??? So to speak, the only ones you put down are the ones you are using in a challenge. Just my thoughts...
i got a question, what if my opponent has like 4 characters and none of them have let us say a power icon, am i able to initiate a power challenge ?? hopefully someone answer me!!
You can. And your opponent will not be able to respond to it. So you'll win the power challenge by default and gain an additional power for winning it unopposed. Sorry for such late answer.
DanteCorwyn The first and second edition aren't compatible with each other, due to extensive balancing of card costs and strength, and new additions such as reserve value on plots.
Question: if you win a military challenge under the conditions of an unopposed challenge, and the opponents characters are all in the knelt position, does the defending character still have to choose a character to kill from the knelt cards?
In any case he has to choose (but not just the characters in the knelt position) . It doesn't matter if you win an "opposed" or "unopposed" challenge (it just counts for power).
Boido 1 Core is good for a 2 player match. You'll need to buy a second core to support more players. I think it's worth it since there is a Melee variant that allows more than 2 players to play at once.
This is my first time seeing this played, and I'm wondering, why would you ever defend with a card when its value is lower than the attacker? Wouldn't it be better to just not challenge the attack?
If a character that we have in play was killed by Millitary claim win effect and card goes to dead pile, when it come to our hand from deck same character card we can’t play it, is there an option to move it to Dead Pile freely ?! Which are the rules of playing 3-4 players ?!
It depends if the character that was killed was a unique character: if it was not, then you can marshal it. If it was a unique character, then you cannot marshal it until all copies of that card are no longer in the dead pile. You do not get to freely send a card that you cannot play or marshal into the dead pile. Rules for more than two players can be found on page 12 of the Learn to Play Manual, but essentially comes down to an extra step in the first phase, where you draft the title cards, and the last phase, where you return the title cards.
@@icefalcon2243 Indeed! I've played it approximately 12 times, I believe. It's become my favorite game, though you need to have a consistent player. We have small child, so I'm not able to play very often, but when I do, it's a great time. I've picked up most of the expansions, and I've slowly been adding chapter packs as we play more.
@@icefalcon2243 Lord of the Rings LCG is another one of my favorites, but mostly for solo. If you like that one, you'll love this one for multiplayer, I think. Theming, of course, has a great deal to do with how much I enjoy a game, and ASoIaF and LoTR are both adored.

is this meant to be played as a deck building card game or like a TCG i cant tell
Hello. This is an LCG (Living Card Game) which functions like a TCG, but there are no blind packs to purchase. Each month a new chapter pack comes out with exactly the same cards as every other pack.
Question : The newer version has Brandon at 1 cost and reaction: save Bran from dying and return to hand ... Now does that mean none of your characters can ever die if kill only 1 a turn and Bran is replayed every turn? that is OP af
Der Nesor I checked and I can't see a copy of Bran that reads that way. It's very similar to Ser Davos, which yes if he is the only character killed can be brought back again and again.
This is a question for people who play the game as I want to start playing this myself. Which faction(House) would you say is the most broken(over-powered)?
I think there is no 'broken' house. Even if some characters would be overpowered, there are many ways (attachments, events, plots, character effects, ...) to deal with them.
I have not played First Edition, but have seen videos and people playing it and it seemed really clunky with tons of phases and a lot of banned cards. Looking at the 2nd edition, it seems very similar (gameplay wise) to the first, which is a little disappointing. I was hoping for more smooth gameplay, similar to Netrunner. :(
QuantaKill Well, I'm a Netrunner fan but I honestly don't see how ANR is smoother than GoT, based on this video. Sure, GoT has all those phases but take a look at run structure. It's incredibly complicated and huge. With enough experience you can play without referring to rules every time you run but at the beginning it's really difficult. I suspect it's very similar with GoT - clunky at the beginning, very simple and intuitive, once you get the understanding of the game.
I really love the art of the cards, but I like the original rules more. So I don't know, after collecting 2 years of the original, all the cards and decks I have are like useless...
DarthVadR007 Basically the same thing but with additional players. The only difference in the gameplay are the titles which are a mechanic added when playing with more than 2 players. But other than that you do all of those steps described in the video but with extra players.
damn. i love game of thrones. i just finished watching season 1-8 yesterday. took me about a month and a few weeks. but anyways this game seems more complex than Yu-Gi-Oh! haha
Sansa's card says she enters play knelt. Is starting her different from her entering play? Because if not, she shouldn't have been available to the Stark player that first round.
Richard Dickson Cards played during setup have no text. That's how it used to be in v1.0 and, since she did in fact enter play standing, I assume this is still the case.
In the rules reference rulebook it is specified the following explanation concerning the attachments on page 3 : An attachment a player controls remains under his or her control even if the card or game element to which it is attached is under an opponent’s control. if the above situation occurs, where does the attatchment go? Does it return to the hand or it is attached on another character if able?
If you place an attachment on an opponent and that opponent would die, the attachment always returns to your hand, unless it has the keyword 'Terminal'.
i feel this is kinda a bad tutorial. why would player 1 choose to defend the challenge with sansa if it is lost and he has to discard 2 cards anyways? no words on that
Stanley was perplexed by the familiar voice speaking to him from the video window.
Love this game. I like how you cant really predict what your opponent is going to do compared to a game like MTG. The plot cards change everything each round and makes every game unique.
Joffrey's card art is surprisingly badass.

If Rob Stark is killed in this scenario, what happens to the power token on his card?
It is discarded.
This was much easier to understand than the directions that came with the game, ha ha, many thanks!
I seem to adore all the square LCG boxes of FFG. Shame I missed Netrunner. Will there be any new LCG published by FFG in the foreseeable future?
The first time we played, both players ran out of their deck but one player clearly had more power tokens than the other. So who wins? Or no one wins?
The first player gets to determine who wins (don’t ask me why)

Both plots are neutral and you can use it regardless of which house you chose.

Any unopposed challenge awards a power token.
This is one of the most confusing and convoluted games I've played since Star wars ccg back in the 90s
Are these rules compatible with the first edition? Picked it up a few weeks ago, but haven't looked at the rules yet.

What happens to the previously played cards? Do they stay in the game, get discarded, return to your draw deck, etc???
From what I see, they stay on the board until removed by an effect, or killed trough the claim effect of the Military challenge.
IvanSensei88 makes sense, thank you.
Is that magister illyrio speaking?
This is my first time seeing this played, and I'm wondering, why would you ever defend with a card when its value is lower than the attacker? Wouldn't it be better to just not challenge the attack?
it stops your opponent gaining power through the unopposed bonus
is there a deck size limit or minimum of any kind?
A deck has to include at least 60 cards. There is no upper limit.
