Nice Ben. U know the other thing I was thinking about. How accurate my fish finder is in regards to the counter was on my rigger. I just use the counter as a rough guide but I mainly rely on the feed back streak image i get from the screen. I find it really wanders off the deeper you get. Which makes sense as the spool lessens the ratio changes.
    Keep the vids coming bud😊👍

I have also wondered about my downrigger accuracy. I also fish my downrigger against my fish finder screen. Perhaps a video checking the counter on the downrigger? And, maybe a comparison of the counter using wire versus braid accuracy?

Hi Ben, I have a couple of the Diawa Lexa 100 line counters and I really like them. Much like your test after adjusting the amount of line on the reels I dialled them in to within a couple of feet difference when I calibrated them. I don’t think a few feet either way is going to make a whole lot of difference. I think the fish are aggressive enough that they are going to move and hit the lure. At least with the line counter you will be more likely to get your lines to the same depth more often than not. I was always loosing count on how many pulls I was out as soon as someone talked to me with my old reels... lol

I was the same way with my manual downriggers. Line counters are great for keeping track of the distance that way.

Hi with daiwa lexa 300 have you ever had the problem when you spool out the it won’t reengage. You have to lift the thumb bar up to reengage the reel. I have just purchased it and used it 3 time and it does it 3to 4 times a trip.

Yes I have had that happen. When I bought mine, no one ever heard of it happen before. I hope this is not going to be a regular occurrence with these reels. Fingers crossed that it's a freak occurrence. I would bring it back to where you bought it and see if there's anything they can do for you.

Good food for thought Ben, but did you calibrate the reels when you first put the line on? You might have too much (number sub 100) or too little line on it (number over 100) similar to what you said in the beginning.

I'm glad you're paying attention. And no, I did not calibrate the reels. I found a great video on TH-cam that walks you through step by step on how to calibrate them. The purpose of this video was to see how close the reels are when they are close to fully spooled. They were close enough for me in the end.
