- (10 Jan 1979) Norodom Sihanouk of Cambodia in Tokyo for an official visit. In 1975 Sihanouk's guerillas, the Khmer Rogue, led by Pol Pot overthrew the Prime Minister Lon Nol, and took Phnom Penh. In January of 1979 the Vietnamese took back Phnom Penh and the Khmer Rogue fled to the border region with Thailand. The People's Republic of Kampuchea was established and many elements of life before the Khmer Rogue takeover are re-established.

He was under house arrest by the Khmer Rouge in the Royal Palace of Phnom Penh. The Khmer Rouge forced him to resign as head of state in 1976. In 1979, the Vietnamese troops head straight to the Royal Palace to unalive Sihanouk. However, the Khmer Rouge allowed him to escape before the palace was overrun by the invading Vietnamese.

King Sihanouk is the dumbest king of all time . He telling people to join the Khmer Rouge resulted in 2.5 million Cambodian deaths 💀 . King only care about himself and not the people
This king is full of emotions, hatred, revenge and square off with his own people.
I believed what you said was mainly toward Lon Nol, Prince Sirik Matak, and other high ranking officials who betrayed him. The Lon Nol regime court gave Sihanouk a death sentence of course he was angry at them.

You need to do a research and read more on history. He did not destroy Cambodia. He tried to keep Cambodia out of the Vietnamese conflicts, but uncontrollable events of the Vietnam War dragged Cambodia into it. Did you know that the South Vietnamese (Sihanouk also suspected the CIA?) tried to assassinate him on August 31st of 1959? The package bomb killed his cousin instead. Sihanouk knew that if he was to side with the U.S., the North Vietnamese would not spare his life also the NVA was much larger than his armed forces. When you have a chance read about the First War of Indochina which Ho Chi Minh and his Viet Minh fought with the French and led the U.S. to jump in and led to the Second War of Indochina. The messes began with Ho Chi Min and the Viet Minh during the First War of Indochina.
