    Firstly, thanks so much for keeping your epic intro music at a level roughly equal to your voice segments, rather than blowing out my eardrums like a lot of other people do. As for the comparison, the differences are pretty big for these two. More plosives and sibilance on the PG58 and less response in the low tones. The SM58 is just such a smoother sound. Thanks.

    I have been using the pg58 for a few years with no issues. I do karaoke so a lot of people Handel and even drop the microphones. The PG58 works best for my application... I have a sm58 also that I use on occasion... live, I can’t tell a difference... recording... very little difference to me.

    I believe the SM58 won the sound battle but in my opinion I don't believe there is enough difference to need to pay more for the SM58. So I'll be buying the PG58... thank you for your video and allowing us the chance to hear them side by side, very well made video!

    I have both PGA58, which is the same with PG58, and also SM58. They almost sound the same. Both handle plosives well and both have shock systems inside. Difference is that PGA58 doesnt have transformer , despite that its still good and sounds clean. I suggest to go for PGA/PG58, you will save a lot for quite similar sound.

    I've been using a PG58 in a small room for band practice and its been pretty good. That said it's not mine and I wanted one of my own so I brought a Beta SM58A and it didn't work as well in that setting. I had to turn down the vocals to avoid feedback which meant i had to push my voice harder. The Beta SM58A also seemed to pick more room noise as well as the quieter vocals which is the opposite of what I wanted. I don't get why the PG58 which is half the price would perform better then Beta SM58A, maybe it's just better in small spaces?

    • @Laserdanger1
      @Laserdanger1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It has to do with sensitivity, and polar pattern.
      Ever notice at a live performance how wedges are set up based on the mic. This is why the beta is feeding back
      Your gain staging, and playback system

    SM sounds cleaner as it catches sound faster. But that does not mean better, SM tends to catch words without the intent and meaning. The PG is slower and might sound less studio like, good for conversations. If I were to record music I would use both, one close and one at your projection. Then I would mix them to add depth

      Loco Busters Stale comment but an audio interface device is required. Personally I like the Focusrite Scarlett Solo. If you need more than one XLR connection get the 2i2 scarlett, its $50 more. But the PGA58 + scarlett solo is an excellent combo. Im using the A.Technica m50x’s (thoroughly hated and praised, i personally appreciate the low end response) plugged into the scarlett solo with the pg58 and a shitty metal-frame-and-spring boom. I am very pleased with the results, especially coming from cardioid condensers. I will be returning my snowball tomorrow.

It's seems like the sm58 is a little better especially when it came to up close or even rate on the grill. Overall soun was also a little bit better but yes the price is kinda like do you want that little jump in quality for an extra 40 to 50 $?!?!

    I've just bought a wireless PG58 and I've owned an SM58. I've done a bit of research myself into the differences and all I could find regarding the wireless versions is that the Sm58 is less prone to feedback and Win noise. When it comes to the wired versions the SM58 is a little bit more well built. Sound quality wise its down to personal opinion. The Sm58 is more of a warmer and fuller sound. The PG58 is still a very good professional Mic. The SM58 is preferred due to it being more robust but if looked after there both Quality mics.

    Honestly, the Blue Yeti. I recently upgraded my audio interface and I have access to a whole pile of microphones at my new gig. I thought I'd definitely go for the SM58 or beta 58 but honestly the audio characteristics of the Yeti seem more clear and true to life. All of the XLR mics I've used just remind me of something I'd hear a church sermon or announcements at a school dance through. I'm not a fanboy either, I was legitimately excited to throw out my "old and busted" yeti that I've had for like 10 years. To be clear though, I mentioned the best XLR mics I have access to. I don't have an SM7B or anything.

      @GrandmasterofWin 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hannibalbarkas1350 yeah man I've learned a lot in the last 2 months. That was the first thing I posted on the subject. Since then I've even repaired a vintage condenser and have two different options. Even built a vocal booth. I also don't like the blue yeti anymore since it has a characteristic electronic whine that a lot of USB mics have. Even ferrite cores on the cable didn't help. Anyway I didn't even know what a noise floor was or what mineral wool was. Now I have a -60db booth for my condensers and I'm working up to building a u87 clone. I don't do live performances btw, but I understand what you were getting at as I get the general purpose and benefits of a dynamic mic now.
